  • So after an initial top ballance can my EVE Grade B 280LFK cells charge from empty to full, uniterupted with no Cell Over Volatage Protection cut off on the JK BMSs.
I have also put a wall socket plug in energy meter to try and measure and guesstimate total around trip inefficiency of the Anern Inverter so I can see just how much we need to generate to charge the Wee Blue Beasties.
Thanks for watching my waffle and thanks for all the messages.
    Stay safe and sane
    love Gaz

I love my jk BMS I have another at my home waiting on me to for when I get there. I'm adding another 8 cells and splitting the battery into two batteries. It's currently a 3p8s 24 volt 840ah battery.

That's a very nice size of battery mate that's 20kWh! Is 3 cells in parallel with one BMS safe? I thought about 2p 16s to reduce need and cost of BMS'es and cabling but I chickened out lol
      Cheers bud

@@garys-half-baked-offgrid-dream it's 20 kw at the moment but soon as I get home from this semi it'll be another 8 cells of 280 ah. I also have a 14 kw Nissan leaf battery that I use a DC to DC victron charger for as an emergency charge if there was ever to many rain days. I have 3200 watts of solar and 3 victron charge controllers also for charge and as little as I come home my system is pretty much always full. I do use a 38 seer mini split for air-conditioning and most of my heat as well.

@@garys-half-baked-offgrid-dream it's been safe so far as I can tell. This coming weekend I'll be taking the battery apart and making it into 2 batteries that are 2p8s with another jkbms. I have the cells linked in series but each cell is linked in parallel with the other cells using 4 awg wire to do the parallel links and the original buss bars for the series connections. The cells having 2 hole buss bar connections has made it a lot easier to do the parallel connection

Had a crazy weekend so just got around to catching up on UA-cam, when watching your video the inverter was taking power for AC every so often so could this be the extra KWh thst you have used so not all of it went to the Angels? I bought a smart plug for £6 off amazon that does energy monitoring and can also schedule turning on and off so might be worth a look, i love the longer videos that you do. I find them so entertaining listening to you cursing yourself 🤣 i finally made a waffleo (waffling video) and uploaded it on youtube 👍

Hi bud, oh yeah I forgot it was Sunday lol.
When I was charging I made sure there was absolutely no AC load, even the wee battery hoover got unplugged. The inverter just on standby alone consumption is a bit shit and may have shown something. Either that or I have had a comment from a dude on a previous video that the inverters are noisy and can give spurious readings. On the inverter screen to show amps charging shows KVA in the top right I will keep an eye on it though. I don't want to watch myself back on video so I will take your word and monitor what's occurring.
With regards to smart plugs and timers I will likely forget, plug something in and overlaod it. The metering would be good though, I managed to charge with some sun today It's been lovely, I dunno how much though lol
You uploaded your waffle, cool I will wobble over and have a look once I get some peace this end. 👍

@garys-half-baked-offgrid-dream well the plug can handle 13A so you should be fine 🤣
In regards to the different readings compared to the BMS and inverter. The inverter could be reading different due to the cable length, bus bars etc where the JK is straight on the battery hence the different reading on the JK app compared to what you set the inverter voltage to. My air fryer at home makes more noise than your inverter does 🤣 chances are the inverter will be out of the way in a cupboard somewhere so the noise will be irrelevant. Only the neighbours can hear my inverter in the garden but I don't care as I can't hear it 🤣 haha. The current draw could just be camera magicary but it did look like numbers were changing from 0 to another number unless it cycles through different values. What about a commando socket for the AC power in connection instead of a 3 pin plug. It can handle higher amperage running through it. Hope the family are all settling in now 👍

@karloffgrid I still have a 3pin plug welded into a socket. I can't be trusted. I forgot I was charging, started cooking on the 2 ring wee oven, mum put the tumble dryer on, the penny dropped, poo came out, turned everything off but the 13a plug never blew but is firmly welded in. That was the Liitokala, generic chinky grey inverter in the outside woodworking shelter.

@garys-half-baked-offgrid-dream 🤣🤣 yeh maybe safe to just stick with a 3 pin plug lol. If you can ever be trusted in future then they are fantastic little things. I need to stop looking at victron charge controllers and smart shunts now. I'm torn between which one to get as I can't afford both (or even one for that matter 🫣)

Haha the good old jk app still as annoying as ever. I currently have a qucc bms with 4S Liion battery, but I will be replacing it because it is made up out of recycled batteries and it lost some capacity and gets relatively hot when charging so there is a safety concern. I probably will be replacing it with 4 105Ah LifePo4 eve cells because that’s all I can afford. I got a new jk bms and just messed around with the settings it works but it can be annoying sometimes. Good to see that you pulled pretty close to full capacity (I looked back at the previous video and checked the amphours). Solar efficiency will probably be around 93% from what i have seen from these combo units. Switch is good for 7.680 watts.

    • @garys-half-baked-offgrid-dream
      @garys-half-baked-offgrid-dream  8 місяців тому

Hi Thomas, Hot stuff is not so good I hope you get sorted and safe soon man, though bloody good show and well done for recycling batteries, if it is made with those 18650 cells you easily will do LIFePO4 with your eyes closed.
I have been cursing having to input the password in the app. UNTIL.... The JKs started constantly beeping. My phone was in my pocket arse dialing them 😱😱😱.
Luckily they are cleverer than I, nothing was changed and no damage done.
7.680 watts is more than enough to play with for now💥
Solar efficiency will be a hard one to measure in Scotland. Maybe on a clear Summer Solstice day without the house using any electricity we could generate enough to fully charge from flat.... 🤔 I can dream. Lol
      Stay safe bud cheers

Cheers mate, Yeah it is alot, we had a 3 month trial run last year and it wasn't that bad so fingers crossed. The old git is already nagging me to get a wind turbine up. He's got me though, I said I would have it flying by the time he moves up.
I nearly in the frame of mind to quit smoking. One 30g packet of tobacco £19.95 at Tesco I could of cried lol.
I could buy a lot of Lithium and Copper for that 🤔
How are you and your lot you have on your hand? Is Mrs Diggler all ok?

yes mate she's fine, I drove to see her Christmas day as her mum was here in London with my mum for Christmas, it was busy but fine 👍
I was back on London that eve ready for boxing day and did my first roast dinner with lots of help from the M in L, then ran her home to Swansea the next day 😟 , at least the car got a quick 1000 mile run 🤣🤣 I've nearly recovered 👌
Enjoying the silence at the mo, working on the ambulance, got a new sink so ripping out the old and building the new.
This year I want to expand the solar in the shed, think I'll go JK for the amby 280Ah battery and use the daly in a new battery I'll build for the shed, so expect plenty of plagiarism of your vids 👍😁👍
      Keep it up chap 😎😎😎
