I was 8 or 9 years old and in elementary school when I got this game for the NES. Loved it. Played it through ... up to now I thought I "mastered" it. 5:19? Wtf ... Probably I was wrong. Btw. I just introduced my kids to this game via emulating software. Oh and I knew about the rocket to level 8, because the rocket gets sucked in if you quickly open the bonus in level 1. Nevertheless, it took me siginificant more time to finish ... Don't know if you got help by tools, but if not, this is impressing ... from the ice level jumps to the efficient fish catching.
In the original lore, Rattle and Roll were to compete in a race to the moon, but they ultimately discover this Earth's moon is part of Earth itself. It's a mountain, taller than any in our world, with the summit reaching into the edge of space.
This game was the cause for endless frustration when I was a kid... could never pass lvl 4. Now I think I'm going to replay this just for the sense of satisfaction... thank you emulators.
Imagine having infinite lives and continues, the ability to start off from right where you died, and the ability to slow down time. THIS is how dude was actually playing the game. It probably took him several *hours*, if not days, to play and record this one speed run.
@@e11aguru 100% true! Battletoads is not anywhere near as hard as Snake Rattle. The ice level jumps are insane! Did finish all Battletoads games (aside from arcade) last month and then Snake, its on another level.
Spectacular run. I used to play the game with my brother during the good old 8 bit days, when cooperate games ruled. I always had problems with the Ice Foot on Stage 9 and 10 because I always got hit for getting to close. I saw how you made up the mountain in Stage 10 which always gave me problems because I did not know the short cuts. Even though I never beat this 8 bit classic I love the game.
That was a great game, only passed it once. But only using the turbo button to beat that damn foot at the end. I tried and tried to beat it with no turbos (this person obviously had the turbos on cause there is no way to move the tongue that fast without it). Games back then where much more fun to play.
Wtf. I played this about a million times when I was a kid, but I didnt know about the warp to lvl 8. Ty for showing me bro. And btw. prett nice job even with warp i wouldnt be this fast. :P
You see, the emulator isn't recording video -- it's recording KEYSTROKES. The recording function is also "saved state" aware, so keystrokes recorded after a state is saved are lost when that state is reloaded. The result is that when you finally finish the game and "play back" the recording, your 20-hour struggle to beat the game is condensed into a 5-minute long perfect run that you can then screen cap and put on UA-cam. This is how dude made that final jump so quickly.
@NiebaumCurran Did you use a rapid fire controller? I still remember writing to the Nintendo Power hint mail system (or whatever it's called) in the days, because I wasn't able to kill the last boss (an almost invincible Foot, Mounty python style). They suggested I use a "nes max" of some kind, witch I did and was, finally, able to beat the game. Great memories!
I can help you. The final enemy is just like the Ice Foot in levels 9 and 10. To defeat it, you need to hit it with a steady stream of consecutive hits. If you miss just once, or take too long in between strikes, he instantly recharges to full power, forcing you to start all over again. One of the toughest video game bosses ever.
Me too. Back in the day when this game came out, from an imaginary perspective I thought the spaceship took them to their home planet. As if they were on vacation and decided to race up the mountain to the moon as the story goes. Very nostalgic to see this again.
amazing.. i tried playing it on my gamecube nes emu.. but the controlls were 2 awkward for some reason roms just dont play well.. very good job though! i had one hell of a time playing this game all the way through
Damn he's good at eating the fishes! How'd he kill the foot boss so quickly? I remember playing this game on the NES as a child and I had to stalk that damn foot a few laps around the cheese until it died. Usually I got in it's path and got squished.
hey, I have a problem walking through the level dunno which exacly 5th or 6th the grey one with the bells and the waterfall. What do I do by that waterfall with jumping bells? Thanks in advance
pls tell me how should i kill the final boss after i've missed the moment it stands freeze? what's the aim in the hunting on big foot? thanx, you're great!!
I finished this game a few times on the Nes! But on the Sega it has a extra level! Nobody seems to know this... Since it's after the extremely hard foot (which is only beatable if you keep hitting it without pauses)
Hi to everyone, someone know an internet page where i can download this fantastic play games? I played it when I was a child, but I have never been able to finish it... Isearch it sometimes in several nes emulator pages but I never find it... someone can help?
@SnowLeopard79 I play this on mega drive, it just takes practice to advance, all the time I advance making 1 level further until continues ends. In this video tho you see that nes is easier because sanke can do thos drops of ice level wihtou dieing and in the MD version you cannot do those or you die so you need to run all the routes that was ment to be taken.
Holy crap, how pretty good u are in this game o_o" i dunno that it gave this rocket in level 1, i even used this fuckin teleport there its one of my favorite NES games what i played ^^ 5* ^^ greetz from Berlin, Germany - Akati -
This was one of the first NES games I owned, and it took me nine years to beat, and I had to resort to using a turbo controller. Either he's doing the same or he has a machine gun for a hand. Nevertheless, excellent run.
This is what's known as a "Tool Assisted" speed run, or "TAS". That means dude is actually playing the game in an NES emulator on his PC. He is litterally playing the game at 1/2-1/4 of it's normal speed and saving state every 5 seconds so he can reload it every time he dies.
It's not bugged. It just has automatic regeneration. :x The best way to take him out is to play it in two-player mode, then get some friends (preferably highly-skilled players) to take turns with you - two at a time - until the frigging Moon Foot is beaten. D: Or, if you can manage to manipulate the turbo speed to make it slow enough: a controller with turbo buttons. Sadly, the NES Advantage's turbo speed is too fast, so you'll just end up with a snake that's constantly making a ":D" face. xD
Well this comment is 14 years late… but I just found out tonight in 2023 that this game … one of my childhood favorites… had a Genesis port that was the exact same game with better graphics and an extra level at the end to show what the sequel would have been. Crazy as hell.
I used to play this with my brother when I was really young! One of the things that stuck in my memory was that foot monster, and its wrinkled version. So disturbing. xD
God I could never beat that stupid foot boss at the end. I was so proud of myself for getting to that point, and after literally making my thumb sore form pounding that button over and over again, he always eventually killed me! =(
bah imagine using macros for the feet and boss instead of button mashing properly. i may not share the same nostalgia as everyone who played this as a kid but my dad showed me this a few years back and its my fav thing we even have it on og hardware so i learned most of it without that infinite lives and continues like you used for this run. i knew a 5 min run was too good to be true. props on the ice levels however those are a bitch. this is still to this day one of the hardest and one of my fav games. kinda sad its not as well known anymore
@roddiegibb If it took you over 5 minutes to type those two sentences, then the fact you could figure out how to put the cartridge into the system and turn it on is way more surprising then the fact you couldn't beat this game.
damn how you get rid of the final foot i've lost all my lives and continues remaining to kill it and you've done it like nothing -_- anyway that was recordings so i want you to make a video with the numbers of lives you've lost loll
Its fake. check the bottomleft of the screen where it says Movie End. movie playing is a feature in emularots where you can do some things, and it saves the buttons you pressed and the delay between them. all that this is would be someone who saved a movie from this game, then changed what things were done, jumps, movements, ect. simple to do for such a short game, one of these was done for Megaman 2 as well....

You make the most difficult game I've ever played look so easy haha. Good job.
It wasn't until I saw the NES Atlas Video of this that I realized this was all one big map/tower. Played this like crazy as a kid
In the original lore, Rattle and Roll were to compete in a race to the moon, but they ultimately discover this Earth's moon is part of Earth itself.

Man, been playin a ROM of this for the past hour, that last bloody ice level is doin' my head in. Whoever did the speedrun, kudos
Nice video, that ice level make me stay in front of the tv for hours when i was a kid.
I played this when I was a kid! of the nostalgia!
Man I miss this game!!! I wish I still had it. My kids would absolutely love it!
Ebay got it for 10 euro
Rare replay for the xbox one. Has this game.
This game was the cause for endless frustration when I was a kid... could never pass lvl 4. Now I think I'm going to replay this just for the sense of satisfaction... thank you emulators.
The music is fantastic in this game!
Imagine having infinite lives and continues, the ability to start off from right where you died, and the ability to slow down time. THIS is how dude was actually playing the game. It probably took him several *hours*, if not days, to play and record this one speed run.
4:35 has to be the hardest sequence of jumps in any game ever.
you clearly never played battletoads
@@darkwingduck47 I have
I can beat Battletoads. Nothing in Battletoads is worse than those jumps. They're stupid hard.
Adventure Island world 8 might be on par.

Bet you cant beat the final boss without a turbo controller. good job though, perfect run of ice levels, they are hard.

This is a TAS not a speedrun. Also, I thought the ending boss was impossible as a kid. WTF were the developers thinking!?
whoa i didn't know you could warp at level 1 like that cool
What an interesting game this is.
Holy shit! so, thats how it ends? Those ice levels always killed me and my brothers! The only game that really pissed me off!!! still awesome though
That last ice level always was a challenge for your left thumb. But i made it.
Excellent game ! Great music, should be played with a banjo !
Wow I didn't know that this game had a warp. Thats cause I've had for more than 17 years.
