People may see this differently but the general population woudl likely interpret the yellow as childlike and innocent. Comparing this to the dark threatening environment further emphasises this.

I would say a semic code (say, a character's courteous way of speaking or their physical attributes) can in turn raise symbolic code considerations (the implications of courtesy in human relationships), which in turn can raise cultural code discussion (in what culture/society/cultural media are such signs and symbols relevant and which not) I like this theory as it is a precursor to Reader-Response. It sits on the fence between structuralism and poststructuralism very nicely, allowing to check on both sides of the critical landscape.
