  • In this video we present our first XPOL-1-5G antenna received from Poynting Antennas only a few days ago.
    This new external antenna is 5G Ready, but can be used as a great MIMO 4G Antenna.
    It is an omni antenna, and quite easy to deploy in motorhome, boating or any outdoor environment where easy and DYI deployment is needed.
    Results are great, and meets expectation for the indoor location we're testing here.

    For the sucker feet/mounting, perhaps a quick soak in hot water to make them "softer" and a wee bit of soap on the bracket holes to lubricate may help.
    Thanks for the great videos, I am an advocate of your channel here in Scotland, but only to my neighbours.
    Thanks again

    Thanks for all the thorough, andinformative content on the 2 different model, Xpol antennas. We are going to be using it in conjunction with a Pepwave dual modem, mobile router. Look forward to viewing more of your content. Enjoy your approach on the data/info. We are in the U.S. and appreciate the quality content.

    Very well explained.
    Maybe a little bit of vaseline on suction parts might make them easier to get in !!!

    I have the xpol1 non 5g version using the suction cups. I also found the suction cups extremely difficult to get onto the bracket. I only used my fingers but think your tool was a good idea. I probably spent a solid 15minutes squeezing and trying to push into the bracket.

      After my video Poynting advised me to soften the plastic with boiling water and try again. That worked really well!

    We're in an NBN blackspot but we're about 200-300 metres from an Optus 5G antenna. Could I mount this on my roof and buy either a NightHawk M5 or Huawei B818 and use that with Optus 5G? Just trying to maximise speed as it's a business

    • @RFShop
      @RFShop  4 роки тому

      Hi Dyllan!
      Yes, in principle the antenna should work well. The modems do need to be 5G modems though, and they need to support external 5G antenna ports.
      I am investigating this at the moment and will present something in the coming weeks about 5G external antenna ports. For now I would only consider the Telstra MU500 as a sensible modem that does support external 5G antenna ports. However, if you are that close to the tower I would assume 4G already works really fast (in particular with an external antenna) so you can get yourself ready for 5G by getting the right antenna

    What were the speeds on the router internal aerial before you attached the outdoor aerial please? just out of interest. Ive just bought a Huawei B535-245B mobile sim card router in the Uk and the same aerial, on the internal aerial Im getting 4 bars of light on the router out of five and 67mbps down and 6mbps up, the aerial goes up tomorrow outside Im hoping it will improve the speed. I put the sim in my smartphone and used an app to test the signal strength in my area before I committed to buying the router.

      It was hard for me to say on this particular demonstration, since the warehouse where I shoot these videos is within 200m of the tower. I'd be better off demonstrating this in remote areas.

    • @RFShop
      @RFShop  Рік тому +1

      Yes, the XPOL-1 covers all frequency bands, in particular in South Africa (considering that Poynting themselves are in Midrand so their first design goal would be to have Vodacom, MTN and Cell-C covered.

    I currently use a Poynting XPOL-1 antenna on a 3m mast with a Huawei B525 router in my caravan. Would the ALFA 4G CampPro2+ give me better results in areas with poor signal strength? Would I be correct in thinking that the ALFA 4G CampPro2+ is not a 4G MIMO device.

    • @RFShop
      @RFShop  4 роки тому

      Hi Julia! The ALFA CampPro is indeed not a MIMO device.
      Can you confirm where you are using the XPOL-1? I assume it’s the older model?
      Cheers,
      David

    • @RFShop
      @RFShop  4 роки тому

      Julia, I can’t really say for sure because we had to resolve a few issues for the Australian market...both for the XPOL-1 and the Camp Pro.
      The first generation of the XPOL-1 was never really suitable for DownUnder because it missed the low freqyency 700MHz we need so I’m not 100% familiar with that model. Same problem on the CampPro, where we had to ask ALFA to replace the default antenna with a better antenna so the unit could support AU bands. If you were in Australia I would actually say yes, it should work better here because the ALFA antenna used now is very good and there are no cable losses. However, in the UK that same kit comes, I believe, with a smaller antenna and then I think the XPOL is probably similar performance.
      I would, however, say you may want to keep an eye on the cable lengths.

      @julialacey1604 4 роки тому +1

      @@RFShop Thank you very much for your insight David. It's a shame the RFShop(UK) doesn't carry the CampPro, then maybe they'd know for sure. It was indeed the XPOL cable losses I was concerned about, so I stick to the 5m cables that come with it. I look forward to your forthcoming videos.

      Unfortunately the indoor test goes from a good signal to a slightly better signal and I don't see useful improvements in the workshop. We plan to go (now that it's summer here in Oz) and do a proper before and after demonstration in the coming weeks.

I get poor signal quality in my room (-106 RSRP) and fair signal on the rooftop garden outside (-95 RSRP) with the M2 itself as I live in an urban built up area. @@RFShop just tried this antenna and have been happy with the signal boost that this provides. Will a directional antenna still work in a built up area if pointed towards the phone mast but no clear line of sight?

    • @RFShop
      @RFShop  3 роки тому +1

      @@killerpenguin13, it's a loaded question. There are a few unknown variables, but in general I would focus on the antenna gain as my main parameter.
      Think about it...at any given time you only have one proper link between you and a base station, even if there's no LoS. An omni antenna picks up reflected signals from everywhere, and that may not be a good thing. With a directional antenna you are improving one path more than any others. If you find the strongest path and improve that with the antenna's gain, and also reduce the reflections by not being able to see them that well I still believe that's a better input to your modem. If you are stationary, I would always recommend a directional antenna over an omni antenna, but that's my approach and how we recommend solutions to customers if / when we deal with them on a case-by-case basis.
