Are you kidding? Men who abandoned their kids were famously called dead beat dads. Is there a similar term for moms? And many men are alienated from their children.
Well if one parent isn't spending that much time with their kid, normally it is because they are working a lot. Both working spouses and stay-at-home-with-the-child spouses are contributing to the better for the family. In today's land of no-fault divorces, it's much easier for wives to file for divorce and fleece the husband. Mothers normally win custody and fathers will miss a lot of their children's accomplishments. Fathers can't get those moments back. The bottom line is Mrs. Kramer had no business getting full custody, since she left her child. It sounded like they would work something out, where Mrs. Kramer wouldn't be completely absent from her son, which is a good thing. To say, that deadbeat dads haven't been condemned is completely wrong.

He was always fighting for 50-50 custody, and he never got it despite having an apartment, having a good job, and the fact that my sisters and I always wanted to spend more time with him. Great actors! Meryl is very real. Her character started as a victim, a sacrificed mother with a beated self-esteem and ended up as a selfish human being who thinks deserves anything she wants because now she found her self. Dustin did great too. His character started as an ass, full of ego, lot of flaws and ended up growing up, fixing his flaws to take care of his kid and, of course, ended up as the victim (along with his son). Note: For decades people saying a mother is a better parent just because of her gender, and giving her custody because of that; so many wrongs by that idea, for decades. Until this day, people keep that idea and they even say there're studies that prove that, when there's none. One of the many privileges of women that lot of them use in a very abusive way.
You truly missed the whole point of the movie. You also must have missed the ending of the film. The Dad ends up with the son at his house but they share time with the son. How is this making the dad or child a victim? It’s the perfect solution and it comes because the Mom made three great decisions. Her first great decision was to leave when she was having a mental breakdown and could no longer function. It protected the child and, ultimately, made the Dad become a good father to his son. The second good decision was coming back, fighting for her kid. Kids need both parents if the parents are healthy. Her third great decision was to learn about how the dad had changed and to take that into account and allow the child to return to the father. Even the dad in this film recognized that he was as much at fault in this situation as she was and acknowledged it. This was a happy ending with the parents having regained respect for each other and the child having both parents in his life.

"Before the take, Dustin had gone over to the witness stand to talk to Meryl. He needed her to implode on-camera, and he knew the magic words to make it happen: “John Cazale.” Out of Benton’s earshot, he started whispering the name in her ear, planting the seeds of anguish, as he had in the elevator scene. He knew she wasn’t over the loss. [...] Now, with a fat finger waving three inches from her face, Meryl heard the words “Were you a failure at the one most important relationship in your life?” Her eyes watered. Her lips tensed. Dustin had instructed her to look at him when she heard that line. When she did, he gave a little shake of his head, as if to say, “No, Meryl, you weren’t a failure.”"

She was gorgeous omgggg
This looks so much real than Amber Heard's fake/terrible acting in court against Johnny Depp.
Maryl Streep looks very very young back then.
Well she wasn’t always old
She was 32 years old
She left him for cosmo! And then she found out that he run out with Jerry’s food!
She walks out and suddenly she comes back, she can't come back and playing the mom card, she should had taken the kid with her.
You can’t just say that millions of men of done that but also million’s women as done that as well. In most cases it will end up with the court awarding custody to the mother instead of the father who took care of him or her. Take a look at the mother in Liar Liar is obviously that the mother doesn’t care about the kids and care that the money and who see that kids where sort of life and that guy was a CEO.
I can't stand Dustin anymore....He slapped her in the hallway scene....He really slapped her on the cheek!Hard....In the cort scene he was saying name of her boyfriend that died one month earlier.....That is why the scene is so emotional....But still that doesn't give him a right to slapp her.....
Doubly wrong to physically and emotionally abuse men. There's far more justice in punishing misandrists. QQ
That crazy fact is that she obtained the custody.
I mean, she walked away but she “won” anyway...
I love her but I couldn't agree with her line if argument, for all the time she was Billy's mother, Kramer was his father and for the last 15 month he has been a father and a mother to their son so if he thinks he has more right , he is correct.
She was her sons primary caretaker for those years while Hoffman’s character built his illustrious career. Do you know how often that happens? That’s why she was mentally ill & suicidal. It was all on her.
It was one thing to move out but she completely abounded her son. She could have moved in with a friend or ask Ted to move out. She completely abonded Billy.
Aww she misses Bumper
Many mothers really do Suck at it.
And MANY more fathers suck at it.
God forgive the mothers who try
This movie belongs to a sellected group of movies, that had a huge role around the globe promoting and normalizing divorce and gynocentric family law reforms, aimed at incentivizing women to initiate their divorces (more than 90% of divorces are initiated by women) and deter men from marrying altogether.
It's a great movie, i know.
I hate Dustin Hoffmann for the way he treated Meryl in this movie, especially in this particular scene. I hate him so much.
He was a good Dad when the kid needed him. She sucked and left the kid. Unstable biatch. Mothers are overrated.
I hope you’re not saying you hate Dustin himself. This was a character he was playing. That doesn’t mean he’s like this on real life.
Brooke Hanley Mothers are overrated?? I understand fathers are underrated but that doesn't mean mothers are overrated. Sacrificing your life so that you can devote yourself to your son is overrated (that's what my mother did) ? I don't think so
Do you all get it that he was saying name of her dead boyfriend in her ear?In the hallway scene he fricking slapped her so she would be more "sad"....He is a terrrible person...He couldn't keep his emotions in because of his wife he got divorced from couple months earlier....He is a jerk..I said it...
@@brookehanley3659 No mothers are not overrated.
I'VE ABANDONED MY CHILD
I'VE ABANDONED MY BOY
There Will Be Blood
her second oscar winning
Her first and it was best supporting actress.
Second Oscar nomination after deer hunter. First win tho
But too late u walked out on them especially you Joanna.. Even though your the mother you should have thought about not leaving you should have done better by being strong. it shld be u not gting him it should be Ted because Billy loves his father more. but at the end is complicated just saying

masterpiece film ❤
I was a child 6 and sister 3 of my parent's ugly divorce. By Australian Law my Mother had to move from House and rent share with friends ect and prove worked to support for a full 12 months. She DID! Was awarded sole custody and NEVER, EVER STOPPED WORKING! My Dad was SELF-EMPLOYED made much more money but was abusive-alcoholic before, during and after. My Mother deserved her children BACK THE HARD WAY. Meryl's character is pathetic, she has a husband earning good income but herself get's lost in space of her own making. The children suffer the most. Meryl the Creep! Deservedly a Dad/Father assume's responsibility and suceed's certainly worthy of custody than his flakey wife.
Alway's very glad My Mum got us back, but in this movie's case isnt truly reflective of it all except to say the Father went through the wrangler to support his kid and eventually succeeded but his estranged wife was a total dipshit!!!
Anybody that leave there kid dosnt diserved custody of the boy he was more of a father in this 15 months then she ever was
She looks beautiful 😍💖, still today
I'm his mother 👩
she looks like Sophie Turner
Dustin Hoffman as Mr Kramer earned the right as Father, Meryl Streep as Mrs Kramer lost the plot
I can do that. We all can. Just not on film.
I kinda feel like, in this movie, everyone sucks hear
Get a life
"you must believe her
Why??
Because she is a WOMAN"
And you call it EQUALITY?
What about a man who loves his family??
...
is the dad go to win
She loves his son now that she is earning money ...but what did she think when she left

Children custody should given to the mother. And the Government or State every where in the world has the obligation to protect single mothers until her son and / or daughter reach 18. and obligate fathers to support them. :D
Why?
Even if the mother abandoned the kid once? Who says she won't do it again. There are some cases where the father is better qualified to care for the child.
MANY cases.
what if the child want to tell the mother screw you for bailing in front of the court
@@brookehanley3659 No not many cases, some cases.
1979-2019
agn i am not jewish etc., agn ppl will find the quirky odd numbercentric , sexualization, mocking disturbing glorification of assaulting ppl, much like bhutto, a teenager with newborn in nursery not very amusing
boring movie.
Actually, I consider it educational
cuz you're a brain dead
ur kinda right... but it's real.... everybody can relate to it.
When this movie came out the character of Joanna was despised by everyone as a selfish coward, because that's what she was.
I am Sam brought me here.
She overpowers hoffman with this scene only.
I don't think so. Both were excellent with their acting.
