I love it! To me the snake looks menacing and planning, a cold blooded killer in reediness. Sean Rogers (the designer of this coin) is in the shop this morning and available for questions, I would love to ask him what the thought process was for this design, I’m sue it would be very interesting!
Seven! What's up buddy? I was wondering what your thoughts would be on this design. I won't completely judge it until I see it in person on an actual coin. I do like the gold version however!
@Seven-Seven-77 ... I love the design too ... have you noticed the double animal design on the S3 Silver Lunar was only Mouse, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit... single animal design for Dragon and Snake 🤷
The Perth Mint doesn't make good coins... they make GREAT coins. And when the coin is part of a limited series that we have waited years for, it needs to be special like the pieces that came before it. Just my opinion. Also the gold snake is pretty nice and I'm excited to get one!
I've a few of Perth Mints coins, pleased with all of them. I've a few Tigers, have a 2oz and a proof version. I've a couple of 1oz Tigers . It's really difficult to tell with these pictures, you might be surprised when you see the actual coin, or not. I might pick a couple up, this year's Dragon is an excellent piece as well.
I agree. I don't think the picture did it justice. I saw the proof version online and it looks much much better. This coin is growing on me for sure. I love Perth Mint. I can't wait to pick up the 1/4th gold snake!!
I love the design and the back ground which centers the snake perfectly the detail of the scales is second to none well done Perthmint cant wait for the release of the kilo coin
@@FourNines-silver As an Aussie I come across snakes regularly the stance of the snake is one of deciding if you are a threat or not, in that position if you stand still the snake will move away from you if you move closer he will bluff and strike at you as a warning I think the design catches that perfectly
@Sunburntsilver He looks curious and decisive. Not sure of what the future brings. I actually relate to that a lot. Great input. No matter what, Perth Mint is my favorite mint in the world and has my highest respect. They have done great things for the bullion industry
Hmmm I see what you're saying. That gold snake is very nice. Perth silver snake is decent but it does seem kind of basic. It's nice but not what you would expect. For special limited pieces they should be wow. I want the dragon but getting that would get me over my goal and mess me up because then I would need more to have a round number like 110 or 120 ounces 😂😂
The gold is nice I agree. But the silver... meh. The background is nice but the snake itself is not impressive at all. The silver snake looks like one I could find on a generic round lol
I love the Perth Mint offerings. The jury is still out on the final product. The tiger one looked like they had a child's contest to see who could draw the tiger and put the winner on the coin. I like your thoughts on the scales, water, proof finishing, and shading for light reflection on the actual coin. Time will tell. Some real good comments on this thread.
We shall see! It's a very subjective topic. Everyone will feel differently about it. Hopefully the finish comes out nicely. We will find out soon. I'm excited for the gold coin
I think it is a pretty realistic design, for a dragon anything can be drawn as an artists interpetation but i like this snake better than the RAM Tiger Snake.
The proof version is released in two days, The bullion version will be released on the 16th. I wonder if the RAM (Royal Australian mint) '25 lunar snake design will be any better than Perth mint silver lunar snake.
I'm looking forward to the RAM snake. I collect that series so even if the design is subpar, I will still purchase. The RAM Tiger Snake looks to be a better design than the Perth Mint Lunar Snake. Hopefully that means for a better design coming from RAM.
@SolemnStacker I'm looking at the tiger snake right now. I really like the finish pattern they gave to the scales. Also the snake has a powerful presence. He's coming at you through the coin. With a little more detail, this coin would easily be a high premium coin
I could imagine the difficult of designing a snake. I'm not an artist but seems like it would be hard to draw a snake that looks good. Can't wait to see you unbox it.
Niue did a great job on their gold version. I was hoping for more from perth. We really won't be able to tell until the coin actually releases. I'm still excited regardless
Love Perth Mint bullion. However I prefer the Royal Australian Mint Lunar coins. Far superior Obverse on the RAM Lunar coins compared to Perth Mint. Also a 50,000 mintage on the RAMs.
I'll have to look into those! I'm trying my best to not start a new collection lol. I need to keep focusing my funds towards low premium stuff. Happy stacking!
@@FourNines-silver Royal Australian Mint (RAM) makes some nice stuff. After acquiring all the RAM "Coat of Arms" coins, I started looking into more of their offerings. I'm not super into the Lunar Year category and needed to balance out my Australian bullion collection with items from their other major Mint. Check out the Queensland and New South Wales Coat of Arms coins. All those designs are pretty cool, but those two are my favorite.
@@FourNines-silver I try to limit my higher premium collecting. One thing I like is if there are interesting Obverse. Not just a picture of the queen or king, or Country seal. That's a reason I really like the latest RAM series Lunar Year coins, and the Coat of Arms series coins. Also why I picked up a handful of the 2024 Niue Mythical Creatures Sea Serpent limited mintage coin Apmex released about month back. That is a very low premium for such a low mintage coin series (5,000). It is a very good looking coin in person. Looking forward to the second release whenever that occurs. I love animal theme coins, especially if they are mythical creatures.
Ya the silver design is lackluster. Granted snakes are essentially just tubes with heads so it's a bit more challenging to make them dynamic, but the silver one was a fail.
This design I think is great opinions will be divided but at the end of the day just like the Dragon coin the snake was never going to feature mother and baby style coin and in Chinese lunar culture the snake is regarded as the baby dragon
Hey 4Nines I love the Perth Mint series and it's a pretty cool pieces and designs!!!!!!!!!! The Snake Perth Mint Design is a complete mess-up compared to all the other years and it's very weird compared to the Non Perth Mint you showed which has tremendous detail. I just hope thats not the final release design!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope so as well! Niue did a great job on their gold snake. It's a good example of how nicely a snake can be done. Hopefully the proof versions have some unique details that make them stand out as well. Fingers crossed!

It always sucks when we collect a series and a terrible design comes out. We can’t not get it because we are collecting the series!!! Hopefully the image doesn’t do it justice
What annoys me is that they make 2 different designs and the gold design is always better. I will say these designs are better than the canadian zodiac coins which look like they are for toddlers lol.
I really like the gold one. The proof silver version has grown on me a bit as well. I don't think the pictures did then justice. I won't fully judge them until I see the designs stamped on the coins themselves
The Perth Mint series 3 has had a theme, excluding the Dragon. They all have two animals. I feel that the year of the snake should of had two snake coiling each other. This is kind of a let down. 😢
