San Francisco Gay Parade 1987

Another trip to my video archives takes us back to the annual San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade (as it was called then) taken with a Sony Video 8 camcorder in 1987. At this time AIDS was at it's peak but this year the FDA approved a new drug to treat HIV, azidothymidine, known as AZT which offered some hope. The gay community was still going strong and as this video shows we knew how to party and continued to fight for our rights even while being somewhat shaken but unbowed by the AIDS crisis.

I was there working in the SFGSL (Gay Softball Leauge) beer booth in 1987 and a few other years. So much fun, thank you for the memories.
