This were my absolute weakness during my three week visit to South Africa (this and Bircher Muesli) . We don’t have these lovely treats in the US, so I tried many recipes for months to make what I tasted there, but never succeeded. I will try this version. Thanks for posting.
The Irony of rusks: ..... All that effort just to get them uneatably dry, just so we can dunk them into our coffee or tea as a snack.... But they remain sooo delicious LOL Thanks for the upload :)
Recipe worked really well. I added some condensed milk to the buttermilk ( which i had to make myself with sour cream as they dont have it here in Sweden). I also kept my oven slightly ajar for the drying process as my mom in law does that but the recipe is fail safe ! thanks
Wow thanks for the feed back glad u enjoyed the video and that your rusks were great. Condensed milk added would make them sweeter and delish. I also leave my oven door open just a bit for drying then they don't sweat. Just had a risk and coffee now before bed time mmm .
How did the rusks come out.. Do you make any other South African stuff yourself, because here in Ireland it is difficult to find stuff... I make my own boerewors, drywors and biltong.
@@renierbonthuyzen9703 I tried the rusks, and they worked okay, but I have bought loads of South African stuff on UK's Amazon, specially Ouma's rusks, and all gold fig jam. I don't know what the stock levels are like at the moment, I haven't had any for quite a while, but give it a try.
Thank you for the recipe....very entertaining family dynamic...absolutely loooooove Granny! So beautifully South African in every sense...precious!
