This is one of the best years for music. 1976. So many great songs came out.
And let me guess - you were aged between 14 and 16 yeah?
@@alanmusicman3385 how did you know? lol
@@terrisue4059 Cos everyone thinks the music from that period of their lives (or thereabouts) is the best there has ever been! Try it out on other people - ask them when the best time was and then ask them how old they were then. 90% of the time there is a match!
@@alanmusicman3385 I had a sister 8yrs older than me. I like the music from the 60's and back. I just remember that year because we moved to Austin that year. Music helped me through the change. I hate the music now days. Can't compare to the previous decades. I didn't say it was the best ever. I said it was ONE of the best years.
@@terrisue4059One of the best years for sure. Yeah, I was 15 and man, was it cool to be alive and the proud owner of a righteous stereo system!
That marimba solo is perfection! It's better to watch the live versions of this song where you see him actually play it.
Chastain Park in Atlanta live :) Bo Wagner rocked it! He passed out my way in Santa Monica. Dug the album!
Bo Wagner did this in a single take, which let's you know how good he was at the marimba.
I’ve been trying to get reactors to do this one for quite a while. Glad that you’ve done it. It’s a great song.
The dude on the marimba was Bo Wagner. He had quite a long career. As a child he was on the original Micky Mouse Club a couple of times once as a dancer and once as a drummer. Over his career he appeared on many T.V. shows and was a guest performer with some very famous bands such as the Glenn Miller Orchestra and the Spike Jones Band. His list of accomplishments would fill this comment section. A very fascinating fellow.
This song reminds me of my summers as a teenager!
It does! What great times then.
Such a great one-hit wonder! Hard to find anyone who doesn't love this song. And that marimba solo is simply terrific.
They had another hit-not as popular titled Everybody Be Dancin'
The marimbas player was Bo Wagner. He passed in 2017. RIP.
Bruce told the story of how this song came to be: it involved a women he met at college who turned him down for a date twice before accepting the third time.
Bo Wagner rocked on the Marimba (not xylophone) and drove the women crazy with his tap-dancing routine...
When Bo was ten years old he was a TV guest on the Original Mickey Mouse Club as a featured drummer and tap dancer...He also, in the early 1970's, worked as a studio musician in Los Angeles, appeared on The Lawrence Welk Show for three years and toured with The 5th Dimension, Roger Williams and Liberace.
I worked for Starbuck's Lighting dude, Larry, and saw them live several times before going to Navy Boot Camp...
Some memorable gigs were at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton and the Toys For Tots concert at the Omni in Atlanta...
The guys were all great people...
for some unknown reason, this is one of those rare songs you love INSTANTLY the first time you hear it
Not until Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam came along, has a xylophone been so prominently featured in a top 40 tune
Thank you Scott Walker! Great great song
Listening to "Moonlight Feels Right" feels right.
This ruled the airwaves here in Baltimore when it came out!
What an excellent choice! I haven’t heard this in decades.
I totally forgot about the xylophone solo. One of the many reasons
I love watch these reactions. Made my day..
The xylophonist Bo Wagner passed away a few years ago. RIP.
Marimba, not xylophone, btw
I remember this song when it was on the radio and always liked it a lot. But now hearing it, it sounds as if it belongs on a Steely Dan album, maybe Pretzel Logic. And from me, that's quite a compliment! Great song, great reaction!
Wow you read my mind about the Steely Dan vibe! I wonder if they ever covered it.
@@Handsoffthekids I doubt they covered it, I can't remember them ever covering anyone's songs. But then they're Steely Dan!
Always loved this song and love your reaction.
You need to hear Maxine Nightingale doing “Right Back Where We Started From”
Great pick Scott. One of my favorite songs for driving around the Canadian lakes in the Summer. Drinking beer and laughing . 😉😎🔥👍
Thanks! It just so happens that I live at the top of the Chesapeake Bay.
That sounds fantastic. 👍🔥😎
@@The5thGen Yes, what a terrific, unexpected selection this was, Scott! Such a delightful tune.
Such a great song, soothing great vocals, xylophone and great memories, great choice. Came out around April of 1976 and peaked at number 3 on the Billboard chart.
Every song you do I LOVE IT !! ITS LIKE EVERY SONG (FROM THE 70S MOSTLY) ❤
It was great in its day and it still is great. What is there not to like. It comes on a xylophone dancing through your head like... moonlight on a warm summer night. 🌛 Thanks Harri
Slam dunk Scott Walker. Always loved this song and remember them wearing it out on the radio. Oh, those were the days. Thanks Harri. I wish had cool threads like you. :)
I listen to this whole song JUST for the marimba solo. It's fantastic!
Brings me back to high school that is when it came out and it got lot play on the radio in baltimore i still have the album
Such an outstanding song! That marimba, and the MiniMoog following it really caught my ear, and I thought there would be more hits from Starbuck, but I don't remember any others after "Moonlight." I think they're an Atlanta (Georgia) band.
Saw them do this live in the fall of 78!! The guy can REALLY PLAY the xylophone!!!!
Hadn't heard this in ages. Gosh, I was a mere lad when it hit the airwaves!
I KNOW YOU GET THE MUSIC 🎵 BLESS YOU 🙏👌✌️😉
This song hit the radio when I was in the 7th grade. It was a great song for long summer night swims!
if christopher walken directed this ,you would have heard-"you need more xylophone"
😄
😄
Loved it Harri! Stampeders "Sweet City Woman" is another great 70s era one hit wonder.
I haven't heard this in years! Great pick and reaction Harri
I enjoyed your reaction! Thank you!
A great one-hit gem! ❤️
The Psychedelic Furs used a xylophone in a song called Love My Way. Great British band. Try it, you'll like it. 80's song
It’s similar, but it’s a marimba (wooden keys) and a xylophone has metal keys.
That solo is unforgettable.
I absolutely love this song! I’m glad you appreciate it.
Just think about how lucky I am! I JUST found this channel!
You really need to see them play this song !
The marimba solo was so instantly iconic that they retired the trophy 🏆, and no one has attempted another one in pop music since 1976… 😉
And it was done in one take. Bo Wagner, who played it, called it "one of those magic moments that gets captured forever."
I was living in Mesa, AZ, with the girl I really loved! Those were Magic
Days. Outdoor basketball, pitching Machines----and just driving through
the City on a Warm AZ evening.
The mallet solo was done in one take. In fact, he was just warming up and they luckily had the tape running.
It's a marimba solo. Bo Wagner was the soloist and band member. What many didn't know about Bo is that he was an original on the Mickey Mouse Club tv show. Not only was Bo an extremely talented musician, but he could tap dance, dance and do many other things kids and even adults wish they could do. He passed away not too long ago. You'll be hard pressed to EVER hear a pop record with a marimba solo in it and even if you do, it won't compare to this one.
I remember hearing this and never really knowing who it was! It’s a very catchy song. Good memories 🌺✌️
I feel the same way about the xylophone here!
Always loved the groove and feel of this song and the excellent xylaphone solo.
Released in the red hot summer of 76. It is a feel-good song from a crazy time, and that was the UK. It's beautiful, and so is the xylophone bit. Thanks for taking me back.
A 70’s classic
As a night person, partly due to insomnia, this song always meant alot to me. Musically, it's just fantastic and great fun.
"Me and moon are itchin' to play." Wonderful!
This was their biggest hit in 1976. They also had a few other songs such as "I Got To Know", "Everybody Be Dancin'", "Lucky Man" & "Searching For A Thrill".
Omg i haven't heard this in forever, amazing how music brings back memories check out "Afternoon Delight" by Starland Vocal band
This is really a jam!
Good song 😁
This song gets extra credit for being the only hit of its time to feature an xylophone solo! Respect!
Marimba, not xylophone, btw
I'm a white guy. But I love when black people react to music.
Epitome of Yacht Rock.
There have probably been xylophones before, but never a solo!
You should listen to 1974s "Take your Mama For a Ride" by Lulu and others - it's not unique.
Some records - by design or by chance - were just a glove fit for FM radio airplay. With its 8 bar intro, 3.5 minute running time, conventional structure, sticky as molasses chorus, vocalist with a great radio voice and the unusual (but not unique) instrumentation of the middle break .... this is a classic example. It's an odd fact that such records were often huge hits in the USA, but not in the UK - again, this is an example of that. Despite being very well known in the UK, it has never been in the UK singles top 40.
There are tons of examples of that - for examples "Long Train Runnin'" (Doobie Brothers - not a hit in 1974, but charted in 1993!), "Sunshine" (Jonathan Edwards), "Sweet Home Alabama" (Lynyrd Skynyrd), "Coconut" (Harry Nilsson), "Time of the Season" (The Zombies), "Carry on Wayward Son" (Kansas) - and many, many others. All of these very well known single releases in the UK, but never chart singles.
Watch live version
Worth it for the xylophone solo
❤️❤️❤️
If you like the vibed (xylophone) check out Cal Tjader.
Along with Milt Jackson, Bobby Hutchinson, Warren Woolf, and Stefon Harris.
Gotta check out the song "Magnet & Steel" by Walter Egan, great song.
Suggestion. Please react to the anti drug song KICKS by Paul Revere and the Raiders
So if the chorus raised the level to 42, what level did that xylophone solo achieve? :)
You can watch the xylophone solo on youtube with their performance on the Midnight special-

Suggestion. Before Women's History Month is over please react to the song
I am Woman by Helen Reddy . Thank You.
You need to subscribe to get Harri to do reactions you request.
I bet you've got some good Ragae records, uh?
Its doesn't make sense. If you're a music fan. I'm surprise most people havent heard these track before
Meh 🙏🏽🤎
I can't believe how young I was when this came out. Just 17, and I thought I knew it all! Psssh. Take care Harri - thanks for a great trip down memory lane! #Peace!
