Who else here thinks that an anime version of game of thrones will be amazing? i mean it doesnt need a large budget and airtime like the tv show. Madhouse hear my prayers! For the night is dark and full of terrors!
It would be bad. the show consists of TONS of dialogue which isnt worth being animated as an anime. think about how many shots in the show are purely dialogue? seeing it animated would not be worth the effort. sure the battles would look amazing, some scenes would make for great pieces of art, but these are just 10% of the show....
If a Game of Thrones anime were to be made, it would probably be more accurate to the books. Maybe it would be called *氷と炎の歌* (A Song of Ice and Fire) I'd also like to imagine that the Iron Throne would look different as well. Just imagine in this hypothetical anime, this massive tree of swords that's supposed to be a chair for a king. And here, the young and tyrannical Joffrey Baratheon sitting within it, literally looking down at everyone with a smug expression on his face, as he literally towers over all the people in the room. Now that would be more terrifying than the show in my opinion. And maybe during the filler episodes, we would get more backstory on the history of Westeros hundreds of years before the long summer. We'd get more backstory on the long night, the white-walkers, The Targaryens and their Dragons, Old Valyria, and maybe even the Three-Eyed Crow. Many of the unanswered questions in the HBO show would be answered within the anime. That in my opinion, would seem pretty cool.
This is so well set up that I thought this was actually a Game of Thrones anime. I still am so excited that I am so disappointed this is not an actual real project going on :'(

I won't go as far as saying it'd be better ... For live action, it's always better to adapt things that would look unrealistic. But I do think the descriptions in the books would look amazing in an Anime ... as the character are very exagerated in their traits ... Characters have unnatural hair color, some are literally giant, many are very flamboyant in their way to dress. It seems it is made to be a manga or an Anime.
An anime would be perfect for A Song of Ice and Fire. It would be able to be pretty faithful to book whilst remaining a coherent show! I'd love to see that giant Iron Throne animated!

Who knows, maybe after Martin finishes all of the ASOIAF novels an anime version will be green lit and have all the crazy stuff from the books that didn’t make it in the first time around. I mean, if you even look at some of the differences between the show and novels they sound like something from an anime IMO.
someone really needs to tell the author George that game of thrones really needs to be done in manga and anime style, at least once the books are finished anyway.. even if it means hiring a great manga/anime artist to do it and make sure its story sticks super close to the books where the live action tv series did not. Perhaps even add a little more lore and detail, providing backstory and flashbacks in the series as well to give that more "umph"
Something I notice when I read the books that just isn’t possible in a live action medium is a lot of remembering. A character will start in the present doing something mundane and then begin to travel somewhere and then reminisce about something in the past. Then there at the place they were traveling to and will continue the present story. It’s not so much nonlinear storytelling like in film and tv but how humans really do travel through the world. Any random thing I come across in my day and I might think back years and remember.
Honestly I am quite surprised this hasn't officially happened yet...I live in the states & GOT is huge here, However that doesn't mean it's big in Japan or anywhere else for that matter...I am curious is it huge in Japan too?

Well the budget for a good anime episode is still pretty steep. But yeah, if Ufotable is down for the project it'll be all kinds of awesome and some.
