I literally live a hop skip and a jump away from Greenland and as much as most of the people like Trump, they've been working really hard to become an independent nation from Denmark. They're not trying to become part of another country and they deserve their independence.
We understand that sentiment but Greenland can't defend itself or it's allies in order to be self-independent. There are many countries that can't. But, because Greenland is close to the Artic circle and the US, it makes sense that it's a strategic point for protection, security of Allied nations, not just the US. I even think Trump suggested that if Greenland wants to keep it's independence and ownership, then it should by all means strengthen its military high enough to protect itself and monitor enemy countries efficiently around the Artic. Which I doubt Greenland can do at this time. Which also means Greenland is leaving itself open to being attacked or monitored by enemies. And then when things go down for Greenland, all other Allied nations are gonna have to come to it's military aid because Greenland didn't want to listen when we said "we told you so".

Greenland is a rich nation (richer than most of Western Europe) and has no need to bow to Chinese influence to improve living conditions. Greenland is part of NATO and due to Danish influence has Western ideals and values. Also, the majority of the Greenland population are native Inuits who don't want anyone's influence on their land. There's just no reason for Greenland to invite Chinese influence

In fact, Denmark wants Greenland to become independent as it would mean they wouldn't have to pay to keep Greenland's economy afloat. Buying Greenland is pointless. Greenland is autonomous in nearly every aspect, Denmark has control over defence and foreign policy only. The US would be paying purely to defend a country it already defends

There's just no reason for Greenland to invite Chinese influence
