Foundation is a grid-less, laidback medieval city-building game with a focus on organic development, monument construction and resource management.
As the newly appointed lord or lady of a land still untouched and full of potential, you are given the opportunity to create a prosperous medieval settlement as you envision it, managing your resources and growing population, whilst being challenged by narrative events, quests and missions, from across the kingdom.
From very modest beginnings, build rudimentary workplaces, extract and store resources, establish trade routes, erect majestic monuments and before long... a bustling city will emerge in your new found lands!

30:11 you can move now! Edit the building and then click the piece of the building you want to move. It makes sense for the monuments but seems counterintuitive on buildings with one structure. But the feature is there
THANKYOU!!!
I found it’s very useful when my town grows and I want to move my industrial areas
Does it cost additional resources? Or is it just pick up and move?
@@harvbegal6868 Costs resources and depending on the building, will shut it until it's rebuilt. But sometimes the "resource" is just 1 gold, and it's always just a small fraction of the original cost (as I just discovered doing so. :D )
Oh awesome! Next episode is already done, but we'll definately take a look at this in the future
The berries all glow when you place a gathering hut.
If you click on the berry hut, itll show the berries
Woohoo episode two! Love a nice little building time lapse.
Cheers, I'm having a blast building these!
Forrest are also needed for hunting boar - I found that out after I had built the hunter, and boar was not available in my territories 😂
Does anyone else feel the urge to click on the people icon when they see it in this video? It might be just me. I have too much time on my hands, and I play a lot. It's hard to see those bright berries on my laptop, and it's not small, either. Have you gotten a bailiff yet? I love how they just run straight up the side of the mountain. Thanks; I learned a lot.
Thanks! No Baliff yet, but soon!
Yah, I have to say, while I don't hate the fact the parcels of land are not just squares, I ended up restarting my first game because the parcel I chose was just too weirdly shaped to be useful (yet it was the best of a bad lot). Also not being able to move some buildings (the "temporary storage, for one) was a bit "aaaaw.... pother". Otherwise enjoying the game!
you can abandon them but idk if you get your money back
The organic nature of the land parcels is a double edged sword... it takes us until episode 5 until we are really happy tbh!
I too am atruggling with my parcel. Its either a wierd shape that ignores land features. Or if you want a parcel with water, you end up with 50% barely usable land and 50% water.
The berries can be seen on the map by the gathering hut
You definitely was not at the promotion stage yet. Can't wait to see the Hamlet progress
Yeah, definately jumped the gun a little there!
I'm loving this playthrough but I'm totally distracted by the tree cutting zone and tree planting zone being different shapes - yes, I know it's not that style of game and you're leaning into the 'organic-ness' . . . but as a min-max-er I'd need to fix that : )
and so where do i find the part where you show us how to raise the taxes. I so do love it when games do this. game: increase taxation. Me: okay, how do i increase taxation? game: you increase taxation by increasing taxation.
same cant find it how i increase taxes
@@yilmazraphael6896 I found it, it is in the royal book, there is a tab for taxes.
I am pretty sure that after you build the tax office, there is a new tab that appears in the ledger/book thing.
Yeah it's a little vague! Once the tax office is build, it's in the Royal Book under a tab that looks like scales :)
@@Geekism Thank you, yeah I am well on my way now. The city is off and running now.
I love how the town is integrating with the trees
*Edit* just as i sent this you cut down all the trees 🤣🤣
Lol whoops! I think trees will look good on the outskirts, but i really want this to be a suburban area
@Geekism actually the more I watched I agreed with that Decision
The insufficient housing is due to promoting some of your people. Butcher, priest etc. You will need to beautify the area around some of the houses, they will then upgrade for the commoners to move in. The advice mission asking you to plant the rose bush and things would have done it.
Thanks! We figure it out in the next episode... I didn't realize the beautification stuff was a requirement, but we get there:F
@ nice, looking forward to seeing it 😁
You should number your episodes in the title. Just in case somebody wants to follow the whole series.
All episodes are listed in order in a Playlist on the channel :)
@@Geekism I clicked this video yesterday thinking it was a guide on how to make money in the game. With a title like "TAXES! How to make money in Early Game Foundation" that's exactly how it reads. Having Ep. 2 probably would have clued me into it being part of a series rather than tutorial lol.
Are there no farming in this game, as there is in banished?
There is! In fact I just dropped Episode 3 that covers our first farms!
@Geekism great. It would also be most normal farming exist. Haha😊👍
What are the little symbols hovering above some of the buildings that look like building blocks?
its either missing raw materials or full storage
Yeah, the squares are 'I'm full' and the ovals are 'I'm empty lol
They absolutely need to provide higher contrast for the cursor. I loose it all the time.
It's little! Lol
Do you have the map seed?
I'm on my phone atm, so cant get it, but it's in the first part of the series, pinned as the top comment on that video :)
@@Geekism beautiful, thank you sir
🎉
I really want to enjoy this but the 1.0 seems to have made the game run awful, not sure if its just me
Sorry to hear that! Seems to be running fine for me so far
I’ve been getting frequent crashes and occasional graphic bugs (usually icons like the berry ones staying on screen when the shouldn’t). Definitely playable (thanks auto save) but can be annoying
The save I started in the Demo runs horribly. On average I’ve been seeing crashes every 15-20 minutes or so. When I started a new save, most of the crashing stopped and when it did, the game started sending automatic crash reports. Try starting a new save.
Yeah, I sadly had to refund because I couldn't get it to run on anything higher than 30fps except on ultra low setting. Lemme know if you find a fix.
The demo is a very old version of the game I believe
I'm enjoying this, just wished you've had better sense of designing it all, the village layout and the buildings itself.
dudeee
Bro really watches a playthrough and getting upset that a different person would do something different then he would 💀
Sorry it's not to your taste, Foundation is all about organic layouts though, every playthough is widely different
