This album was his first so he chose to tell a story. Instead of a theme or genre. This started with the pandemic, he was having trouble dealing with being lonely instead of being with thousand of fans. He wrote the album FACE that was 5 songs plus and English version of Like Crazy then a secret song for ARMY called My Dear Army or Letter. One of the songs is interlude music to him getting home from a concert. The other songs seem to be stages of understanding his situation within this crazy pandemic landscape. I loved it. I think you will too.

And for a next recommendation, I'd suggest "set me free pt 2", the final song on the album (apart from the english version of like crazy), describing how he eventually set himself free from previous thoughts/expectations of himself
Jimin's song "Like Crazy" is a crazy song, it has broken many records and still does, it makes everyone want to do the same thing but no one can do it organically like him, Jimin makes everything look easy when it's not.

Late '80s, yes! This song takes me back to my Duran Duran days. Jimin's magical voice is unmistakable. One measure in, you know it's him, and that's a gift for a vocalist. He made quite a splash with his debut solo album, but I think his best song is Lie, released way back in 2016 on BTS's Wings album. Lie is a masterpiece. That's the truth.

It's also the longest charting song by a Korean soloist on the Spotify USA chart and has RIAA Platinum certification in the USA. We tend to call this phenomena as 'JIMERICA' due to the fact that Jimin's fandom in the US is huge (consisting of both Jimin biased ARMYs and Jimin's own individual fans).
Regarding Jimin's discography, all of his songs have a different sound (there's RnB, ballads, hip hop, etc.). I'd recommend you to listen to his 2023 debut album 'FACE' at one go, as it's only ~17 mins long (5 songs + Interlude). His collabs 'VIBE' ft. Taeyang and 'With you' with Ha Sungwoon are also soooo good! 😍 Also, I don't know if you're aware, but he's an amazing dancer, too (one of the best in K-pop). Honestly i love ‘alone’ from his new album because although it’s sad and a song he wrote when thinking lowly of himself, it’s so raw ans genuine and creative and the vulnerability he was able to show is just otherworldly.. he also has Lie, Filter, Serendipity, Promise, face off, set me free part2 … all so amazing

This is the biggest solo Korean song ever. Its from his FACE album and all the songs were written by him. It has no collabs and is the longest charting song by a Korean on Spotify. Jimin, as of today, is still the most consumed Korean act on digital platforms globally, beating BTS, New Jeans, Jungkook, and he doesnt even have any new songs in 2024. This is largely because Jimin fans are effin mad at the unfair treatment dished on Jimin by HYBE, the company. Jimin received a sketchy and scanty promo, limited budget, them saying no to Jimin having more MVs (but gave other members more), didnt print the CDs, vinyls etc when those ran out despite fans begging for those to be done, split the streams for the different versions of Like Crazy but combined the streams of other members' songs. Its a long story but Jimin fans are showing their anger by streaming for Jimin. Jimin's success is organic success, he doesnt the payola from Hybe. Not Jimin.

❣JIMIN, born October 13, 1995, at age 11, started studying, performing, & competing (winning every competition), in hip hop, popping (excelled), & street dancing, while attending the renowned Just Dance Academy in Busan where he's from! He was so good that an instructor even had the high tuition fee waived at one point! This was while also attending middle school, where he loved sports, being quite athletic, joined the football team, excellent at track, great at basketball, & billiards! Jimin also, all throughout his schooling, was known as a top scholar, achieving perfect scores, especially in math & science which just always came easy to him! Jimin was even class president for 9 yrs in a row! Jimin, all throughout his schooling, was also quite good in art class, as well as calligraphy.
Jimin, then also took up contemporary dance. The media, after seeing a performance of Jimin's performing at a huge Busan Festival Event, called Jimin "The rising star of Busan"!! JIMIN also studied ballet & traditional Korean dance while attending Busan High School of the Arts. Jimin still went to Just Dance Academy to take hip hop classes whenever he could because his first love has always been hip hop, even though he was now majoring in contemporary! JIMIN even had an offer to dance overseas, but declined because he also wanted to become a singer since the 2nd grade, to the dismay of one of his dance instructors who said "The world of dance was going to lose a great artist"!!
So Jimin then went and auditioned for BigHit Entertainment, (company BTS is signed with), being the very last member to officially join BTS on January 12, 2013, (exactly only 6 months before BTS debuted), being a trainee for only a few months (which is unheard of for most Kpop idols), as opposed to the 2-3 yrs of being a trainee the other members had! But Jimin was so good that he was assigned the official title of one of the two Main Dancers, as well as Lead Vocalist. Sometimes in winter it was decided he would debut with the other members. From than on it was still 6 months to the debut.

In the beginning as well as ending to the song, he even uses excerpt wordings, with voice over actors using dialogue more in tune with song, from it. Jimin has also said that many of the songs on the album convey what he was going through, his thoughts, his feelings, his emotions as well as despair & depression, during the pandemic in the last few yrs. He also was hoping that maybe it could help others by way of relating & going through similar difficulties during pandemic. So this song Like Crazy, could also be during that time, thinking back while laying his head down, on table in that depressing small room, dreaming of the better times in the past, when he was free to enjoy himself, as well as being with someone or with friends, or even around ppl in general, being able to be free to go out & party. The song is about escapism! Jimin wrote this album during the pandemic and it's a story about trying to escape the pain and loneliness through vices and then healing and setting yourselves free. It's a gorgeous album with incredible storytelling and references. I love how the mv is filmed in a way that's hazy like you as the viewer are drunk. And the mud references to how giving into the vice makes him feel dirty

Like Crazy is a song about escapism - escaping from one's hurt but as you can see at the end of the video, he still has the mud, running away doesnt fix it. A club is chosen because its the best metaphor to use for escapism, like most people go to a club to get drunk and forget their shit. BTW, every single Jimin song is different. Check out Serendipity, Set Me Free Pt 2, Filter, Lie, all of them are different, all of them unforgettable masterpieces.

This song was inspired by the movie of the same name featuring Felicity Jones and the late Anton Yelchin. Jimin loved this movie and while writing songs for his album, thought this movie fit part of his feelings during the pandemic.
His album FACE is a chronology of how he endured the lockdown and should be listened to in order, but you should watch “Set Me Free Pt 2” which is the last song in the album. It’s a completely different vibe than “Like Crazy”, but it’s incredible!!! It’s my anthem now!😊

I'm surprised since you initially Jim-in'd bc of his dancing, that the Serendipity live wasn't requested more. His ability to move so smoothly, and sing so smoothly LIVE still astounds me to this day. Serendipity was probably the birth of my Jimin bias lol.
Please check out Set me free pt2 by Jimin! It's from the same album but a completely different genre and vibe. Jimin is definitely the most versatile of the boys in solo work and doesn't tend to stick to any single style with his music, performances or concepts at all.

His album is great! I really like Face-off. And the hidden track Letter (Dear Army is the name he used when he did it live for festa) is gorgeous. All the songs are great and show different facets of Jimin. He participated in writing and composing the whole album. He said it was basically about how he felt during the pandemic lock down.

Hello Sam and Scott, I absolutely love you both and your cheerful banter. I am Jimin biased but love all Seven of them . Thank you for this wonderful Jimin reaction. Jimin is a counter tenor, he has such a unique voice tone that sounds so ethereal. Don" t box him in one category though, our guy can growl and sing raspily in the mid and lower register too. His solo works are varied, multi faceted and every single one is a work of art. Jimin is versatile. He is also a deep thinker and his songs always carry a deeper meaning. Please react to Serendipity, Lie, Set me free part 2, Filter and Vibe by Taeyang featuring Jimin. He is phenomenal in live performances. Jimin has dark brown eyes but loves colour contact lenses. He wrote his first solo album FACE and released it before entering the military. Most were written around Covid or shortly after. He struggled mentally and drank a lot during Covid. Like crazy was his way of explaining his chaos and how he escaped reality. He didn’t want to wake from it but also know he needed to. This is his self reflection. The title comes from a movie he was watching by that same title, that reflected his mood at the time. Or harkens back to that time period.

Like crazy is a phenomenal song!! It made Jimin the first kpop/korean soloist ever to hit no.01 on BB hot 100! It also hit 1B streams last month becoming the fastest Korean song ever to reach this mark!
Like Crazy is the title track of Jimin's debut album FACE as solo artist. The 80's synth pop music could give us a happy party vibe, but the first time I watch the MV, I was hit by his loneliness in the middle of the crowd. I see the sadness throught the party time. "Lost in the light" , as he expressed his feelings. Jimin has said that many of the songs convey what he was going through, his thoughts, his feelings, his emotions as well as despair during the pandemic in the last few years
The Face album is really a masterpiece and depicted how Jimin goes throught not only his depression during the pandemic, but also (that's my opinion) his insecurities/doubts/personal inner struggles. If you listen to the songs in the order of the track, it all make sense. Feeling lost and empty, the only thing you can do is to get yourself drunk for even just for moment to forget the painful feeling. You enter into a dreamlike state and you don't want to wake up because reality is painful. But you can't escape reality forever. We can all relate the feelings jimin might have in writing this song. And there is a lot to say about the MV itself, the symbolism of the mud (on the wall and on jimin's hand when he wake up) , the girl with black hair mirroring Jimin (the choregraphy version reinforce that point) , and the fact that , after Suga's "Shadow" , RM "persona" and J Hope "Ego", we meet a new part of one SELF here, according to Carl Jung's analytical psychology : the "Anima". As always with BTS, and specially Jimin, there's a lot of layers. You can enjoy songs on its own without diving deep but if you wanna to hear the story they are telling, you need to analysis the lyrics, and watch the MV beyond the surface.If you could react to prerelease track Set Me Free pt2 to see the difference and how versatile artist Jimin it would be amazing. Like Crazy is one of his songs in his first solo album Face, whic chronogically narrates what he went through during the pandemic when suddenly everything stops and becomes uncertain.
In this song, the speaker (Jimin) is talking to the person in the mirror before him. Jimin is a person who becomes frantic when doing nothing productive but somehow during the pamdemic he fell for it, the idleness and boredom, which made him feel even more like crazy.
