I've heard people say that funk isn't about what you play, its about what you don't play. This is a perfect example with all the little pauses, not over playing and coming back in perfectly on the beat
I've heard other covers of this Nate Phillips Masterpiece and for some unknown reason the bassist playing somehow believe putting their own spin on it by playing when they really shouldn't will make it better when it REALLY doesn't as the saying goes don't mess with perfection and you didn't I appreciate that and this is the best bass cover I've heard to date thanks again
I'm a bassist and I happen to love Nate Phillips and Pleasure. Let me just say that THIS is, by far, the absolute BEST VERSION of someone playing that legendary bass line. The notes, nuances and fills are so perfect that it's almost as if the record is playing and you're just pantomiming. However, for those of us with exceptional ears (and eyes), it is obvious that you truly are playing this incredible song and that you are beyond exceptional at it. Kudos, Brother.
I’ve seen lots of people play this line (try to play this line), but this is in my view quite exceptional. He even brought in a very subtle variation part way through which blended in perfectly. I can’t believe this hasn’t had more views.
Thanks for your comment. I actually bought the bass a few days before making this video. Soon after I got it home, Pleasure's Glide popped into my head because I realised the slap tone sounded identical! Thus I decided to make it my first recording with this bass. It seems likely that the original recording was using a 1977 J bass too. Bass built in 1977, Glide released in 1979; go figure 😎
NOTE 4 NOTE, THE ORIGINAL IS THE ONLY WAY 2 PERFORM THIS CUT DUE 2 THE FACT THAT NOTHING WAS LEFT 2 CHANCE, JUST LEARN IT & GLIDE, THIS GUY IS A SERIOUS BASS PLAYER & KNOWS THAT THIS RECORDED TAKE IS THE ONLY WAY 2 GET LOOSE
I have got to learn this funky thing ooooh🎉😂😂😂

I have a 1977 bass just like that. 1977 was a great year! Great cover of this timeless funk song. Thanks for sharing.

@@MarcelStranis This reminds me of my 78 natural j-bass. Sadly I had to sell it during the 2008 downturn. Fantastic sound.
Sweet!
Honestly, this is one of the better versions I've heard so far. You are much appreciated Sir! The tone on that '77 is awesome.
Thanks very much!

Puts my cover to shame
Do you use flat wounds or round wounds?
Rounds
i’m back here a year later, this cover is just too good
I wish u didn't play along with the actual recording because it's hard to distinguish your playing from the record
I agree, it's a little difficult to tell between recording and cover
You almost got it except one wrong note. During the verse the bass not is C# not C. I am the bass master
Nah. It's definitely C.
@@MarcelStranis Nope
PhuckHue2 “I am the bass master” lmao where’s your cover of every song in existence then?
You have to be joking right. If not then you just wanted to write something and didn’t know what to write so you wrote that crap
