What a fascinating story. Love your house and the rich history! My great great grand father passed on Civil War stories to my grand mother who passed them on to me. I found him in the records. 4th NC Regiment. Caswell Jones. His brother was killed at the battle of Cold Harbor. Azariah Jones 17th NC Regiment

I am a history lover and this old house tour was right up my alley. Your home is lovely, and so nicely decorated and well kept. You said 5th generation, and that is incredible. For 5 generations, that it still looks so good and so well organized (more organized than mine!). Thank you for the tour and story.

Thank you for sharing John. So much history within your family and your house. Well kept after all these years. As you were opening the wallet and your hands shaking I was thinking a spirit was going to grab it and tell you "that's enough!". Family closeness is what what we're losing today. An encyclopedia of stories. Thank you again! 👏

Well thank you Keystone. I am very lucky to have such heritage and to have inherited the family home. Don't tell anyone but one of my maternal G G Grandfather was from Lancaster County, PA and enlisted in the 1st Pennsylvania Infantry in 1861 when President Lincoln first called for troops. He went from a Private to a Major General retiring in 1907. He was the longest serving active duty soldier to take up arms in the Civil War when he retired. He was William Spencer McCaskey. So I am a Yankee as well as a Confederate. Thanks for watching.

I hope you keep your location private because there are plenty of people that would love to steal those antiques. You should heat the historical parts of that house because the cold and dampness could ruin those antiques and documents. Keep it at least at 50 degrees. Few people have any respect for their ancestry any more. It's great to have all that family history in one place.

i'm 66 now. my grandmother came to Oklahoma in a covered wagon. She, in turn, was raised by her grandfather. I had many discussions with my grandmother in around 1967 to '69. She told me at length stories her grandfather had told her--he and his brother had been Texas Rangers who fought the Comanches before the Civil War and fought for the Confederacy out of Texas. One story she told me was about a battle they fought with the Comanches in which a white woman captive and her two little boys were recaptured. The woman could not remember her white name and that night, around a campfire, they read to her a long, long, long list of name of possible captives. when they got to her name she bolted upright from being seated and said, "That's me!" So, decades later I watched a film about the making of the movie "The Searchers" and they said it was originally based on a real incident which they recounted. i had the unreal experience of recognizing the incident from stories about it handed down by my family members who were there. It turned out the lady's name was Cynthia Ann Parker and one of the little boys became a famous Comanche chief named Quannah Parker. my grandma' added another detail--they took the woman and the two little boys to a hotel room and the boys were terrified of the mirror--which they'd never seen before--and hid behind the bed in the room and peaked at it. details you won't find anywhere. great house and family heritage you have, sir, i found it fascinating.

My great great great great grandfather, Staff Sergeant Robert Byers Sr. fought for the Union Army during the American Civil War and had all kinds of Civil War stuff. When he built the house that I am currently living in (we live in Spruce Creek, Pennsylvania. Right smack dab in the middle of the state), he kept that stuff in the basement. My wife, Lelia, who is sensitive to the paranormal, is terrified of our basement. We have all kinds of crazy shit down there. We have enough muskets, carbines, and rifles to supply a small company. Most of them work. Along with instruments, old cleaning supplies, and a mess kit. Most work, and I use his 1861 US Springfield as my main utility rifle, just like Papa Robert used to (according to my grandfather who knew him). I use it for hunting, and I've shot an intruder or two with it. Lelia has had dreams of Papa Robert watching over us at night. I've taken down deer, boar, goats, and a few bears with it. Just like Papa Robert used to. Papa Robert used to hang out with his buddies, who were also Civil War veterans, and they'd drink and sing in the basement. Lelia SWEARS she hears a group of old men singing Civil War songs of the North in the basement. The first time, she went to join the group, but saw nobody down there. She ran up the stairs, just freaking the fuck out! When we went to Antietam as teenagers, we were walking through the battlefield, and she started to cry. I turned around, and she was standing there bawling her eyes out, frozen in place. She said she was scared, but she didn't know what she was scared of. We haven't been back since.

I believe the ghost story, there's several evps in the video, including one that says 'Papa Vinny'. Also, at 5:29 bottom center is an anomaly. I thought it was the dog's tail at first but it isn't. The whitest section of the piano bench gets bright right before it appears. Then at 5:30 a male voice says, 'I'll bring her back then'

There's so much history in your old house. To me finding a lock of hair from the Civil War is scary. Is your Great Great Grandfather's sword an Infantry Officer's sword or a Cavalry saber?

I don't know. He was a Sergeant in the Confederacy. I will have to take the sword down and examine it.

I might have had great family home like this but yankee Army burned it in 1864 in the upper Shenandoah valley.
