I don't hate The Aristocats, but I perfectly know it's not one of Disney's finest movies. Even if it's childish, silly and doesn't reach the same level as its predecessors, is still an enjoyable film.
Yeah, most people consider this the complete worst one in the "classics" era, but to me... ehh, it's also a guilty pleasure. Besides, I think it's obvious that Disney had way worse than this.
Lol same then again I saw it while living in Mexico so they added a lot of references I could understand and change other stuff to make it to our sense of humor
Personally, if they went full force with the "unlikely hero gets that bandit and saves the day" idea, it could have been a decent western parody. Because let's be honest, a cow is as unlikely a hero as you can get.
+wesleyv1 Ok honestly I never saw that movie and never learned anything about it completely due to the fact that the male cow had an udder and it threw me off. Udderly.
Hey, Aristocats had more effort than this! Thomas O'Malley's song is more memorable than anything in this schlock. Then again, I'm a sucker for cute cats.
Saddest part, the music was done by Alan Menken... Actually, the music is still great, both for the songs and score but it's heavily betrayed by the weakest, most forgettable lyrics.
It's a cute little film!!! The animation while the backgrounds are good and the character designs are so cute, some of the Xerox animation isn't the best so it may not be the most beautiful, but the backgrounds especially in the daytime are beautiful!!!
I remember seeing this movie in theaters and being VERY disappointed, especially when this was supposed to be the last 2D Disney movie. Talk about going out with a whimper. I'm thankful that Disney briefly revived 2D to make The Princess and the Frog - a much more fitting send off to hand-drawn animation.
+TheHeroesOfCRASH on a side note, 2 years later, after TP&TF , Disney one more 2d film, simply called "Winnie the Pooh", which was also executed very well
+Trophies They barely fucking advertised it! And no one was interested in seeing a new Winnie the Pooh anything. Disney used those facts as an excuse to kill their 2D branch. The top brass wanted out of it.
I'm 25 and I still love this movie, I love the songs, I love the cuteness and love the characters. Also, it definitely has adult jokes in it, one the first jokes in the movie is focusing on Maggie's udder and her saying "yeah, they're real, quite staring"
This is honestly a guilty pleasure for me. Granted, that's mostly just because for whatever reason, the Willie Brothers crack me up every time. "What'd you do to Uncle Slim?!"

I knew someone who worked at Disney right around when they started killing their 2D department (Around Treasure Planet, and this movie). Apparently, it was not pretty. So, I can't really blame the animation team for this movie.
I still dont understand why so many people shit on this movie, i mean come on! To start out from, who coukd ever think of making a movie about cows? most wild western themed movies focus on horses or cowboys, but i honestly always wanted a movie that focused on cows. I always hear the same argument "Its too happy, its too smiley" Well, i dont find anything wrong with that! Is happiness a crime or something? i never found anything wrong with overly happy movies anyway. Forgettable characters? Excuse me? I remember exactly each and everyone of these characters and how i identified them. Maggie, the sassy cow who wanted to re-do her life after everything she had was taken away from her. Grace, the over positive cow who loved to sing but didnt have the voice at all. Ms. Calloway(however its spelled) The "voice of reason" , she wanted the best for the farm but was too overwhelmed by Maggie's attitude that she didnt always think right. Amelia, the kind farmer who was just devastated that everything she ever had would be taken from her. and that's just to name a few. It has some really good songs sometimes and i honestly laughed a lot with this movie. But then again, thats just my opinion i guess. Shit on me too if you want to
I didn't have any problem with how happy or smiley it was... I just felt like the characters and jokes never hit home for me. If you like it, I won't make fun of you or your opinion; everyone has the right to their own opinion of a movie. Heck the Nostalgia Critic has even admitted himself that it's not a critic's job to tell you whether a movie is good or bad, but to provide a lens through which you can view a movie - to provide a point of view which you may agree or disagree with.
Jere'jack Lover OC-chan I respect your opinion but I just can't like this movie. It's got some decent stuff in it and isn't the worst Disney movie I have seen but it just isn't any good in my eyes. But as I said it's fine if you like it

+George Willmore (SubSpacer) Probably by "greatest" he mostly refers to how everyone knows the name and they have widespread acclaim, even if out of over 50 films a lot of them aren't very memorable. Ghibli is by far not as recognizable for the general public.

This movie was my childhood, but I can't remember anything about the plot because I was really young when I saw this. But watching the clips you shown sent me down memory lane.
Home On The Range i think it's one of the greatest: the comedy is perfect, the songs are perfect, the villain is perfect even the design of the cows: look at that thing!
i loved this movie as a kid, so when i saw it as an adult just the other day i was just hit with a wave of nostalgia. i was actually surprised to hear Dame Judi Dench and Cuba Gooding Jr. never realised they were in this.
Fun story: My dad won pre-screening tickets for this film like a week or two before it came out, so I got to see it for free. I was 11 at the time, but I remember enjoying it. I even watched it again with some friends when the DVD came out. 12 years later, I couldn't tell you a damn thing about this movie. I honestly can't remember a single song or quote.
Just like The AristoCats ?! C'mon dude, you know your stuff when it comes to animation and you have to realize (even if it's far from a favorite of yours) The AristoCats at least has very nice animation. This is just ugly as hell - I'd rather watch the Super Mario show, at least it's not ugly to a point it's nearly scary. I could bring up more points in favor of The AristoCats (like the catchy songs, the funny chases with the dogs, some enjoyable side-characters...), but I'm a big fan of this film - it's among my 5 fav' Disney movies - and I know Doug isn't - but still, the AristoCats is (at least) one league above this horrid crap)
+FrenchPaul1988 I'd also say that The AristoCats has a lot of charm and fun to it. Not every movie has to be gripping and serious, sometimes some lighthearted fun is nice! Both films were made when Disney was having a lot of trouble, so they needed to make movies that would appeal easily. It's cheap, but it brings the finances they need. Granted, I'm pretty sure the only time that really worked with was with Dumbo, which did really well and helped them in the 40's slump. Otherwise, it's a blockbuster that brings them out of the crapper (Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, arguably Tangled). Anyway, AristoCats had to have done something better, because I watched these both as a kid and I still come back to the AristoCats to this day.
+Starbrand Lives They tried bringing it back with The Princess and the Frog and Winnie the Pooh, but they weren't huge financial hits, which is why they are still producing CGI-animated films. Let's be fair though, the CGI films starting with Tangled are still amazing films regardless.
My scout troupe got taken to this. We were the only ones in the theater so we just played tag when we got bored after like the first 5 minutes. The yodeling villain song stopped us for a minute because it just came out of nowhere but that's all
I went back and watched this movie recently because I started getting desperate to see animated Disney movies. In my desperation, I have realized that I love this movie way more than I did as a child. Not only is the animation BEAUTIFUL and the music kind of catchy, but I have a deep rooted connection to the plot. I mean, yes, a woman losing her farm may not seem like "high stakes", but when you realize that she can't pay $750 and you, in real life, have gone through a scare of losing your country house and home, it hits different. Plus, when you miss 2D animation as much as I do, ANYTHING animated with as much love and care as Home on the Range, is a pretty good watch.
That's the issue though, you like this movie because it relates to you, but it won't relate to everyone. If a movie can only be good to a certain audience and no one else then it's not really good is it?
i liked this movie. It's fast paced, fun, and very creative for Western parody. Not the best Disney but definitely not the worst. I do agree with Doug that Disney could do better, and it would not leave a good impression on someone's first Disney movie, but every studio has movies like that. Ghibli even has movies like that, but even so, I really like this Disney movie. Fun Popcorn movie. Plus it released on my birthday and that makes it just a little more special.
Dillon Ohlemiller they made five 2D animated films before this Treasure Planet, Brother Bear, Lilo and Stich, Atlantis and Emperors New Groove. And only Lilo was a hit, New Groove only made 1 and a half times it’s budget back. I don’t like this movie as a whole, but when people say it’s the soul reason 2D animation died when only 1 of the 4 movies before it was successful, and they own the studio responsible for CG animated films dominating the industry is silly
The film would be fine, normally. It isn't as hard to watch as Doug makes it out to be. But while watching it, all I could think was "This is a *Disney* film?" It doesn't look like Disney, it doesn't have the charm or "magic" of Disney films, and the music doesn't even sound like Disney either, tbh. Obviously there are worse Disney films out there, but there are also way better ones. If this was by DreamWorks, I wouldn't mind it, but for Disney this is embarrassing
Even Steve Buscemi couldn't save this sinking ship. Home on the Range was promoted like crazy when I was a kid, so much that they even had somebody handing out posters here at a mall in rural Nova Scotia advertising it... so it felt like even more of a letdown when I finally watched it.
there was a ton of creativity in the animation here; the yodeling villain, the funny dynamic chase scenes, the score was good, the voice actors had a lot of personality. While certainly it didn't take a lot of risks with the story and clearly geared more towards kids, I don't think it's fair to call this a bad movie at all.
"The Jokes are not for adults"... Man, this film open with a "fake breasts" joke, and it has a scene with a travestite father dancing in a saloon. This is one of the few Disney movies with "adult jokes". I Belive the reason why manny peoples "hate" this film, is just for the fact that everybody hate. The movie is clearly not that bad. Had a lot of enjoyable characters. funny moments, nice visual animation. Is not one of the best, but is much better than people describe.
I totally agree with you! This movie is one of my favorites the jokes are so fast most people don't see them. The opening song is so funny and most people don't even hear the jokes in it! This movie is great!
This is my top favorite: 10° Mulan 9° Chicken Little 8° Home on The Range 7° Meet the Robinsons 6° Dumbo 5° The Emperor's New Groove 4° Aladdin 3° Hercules 2° The three "The Lion King" movies Honorable Mentions: Brother Bear Treasure Planet The Great Mouse Detective The Jungle Book Lady and The Tramp The Hunchback of Notre Dame Beauty and the Beast Bolt Big Hero 6 Zootopia 1° Fantasia 2000
I recently rewatched this movie, and all I could think about was how fast it was moving. Seriously, this movie is an hour and ten minutes and it never slows down, and that hampers it greatly. There’s never any time to really get to know the characters (probably because there wasn’t much to them anyway) and it just comes off as weird when the movie is just going a hundred miles and hour until the credits.
I remember seeing this and then thinking oh yeah he's going to review my favorite movie ever and then I saw that he didn't like it I was like great now I have hate it now
I do remember seeing this movie when I was younger and liking it back then. Nowadays, I don't necessarily care for it. I can say that I enjoy a lot of Disney's work, and while I can't say I hate this movie, I also cannot say that it is worth my while. It pretty much has nothing to offer besides some nice visuals. So, as a normal animated movie, Home on the Range is rather harmless. As a Disney movie, it has a lot to be desired. And I mean A LOT to be desired.
I saw it in the theater when I was ten. I loved going to the theater, but the only thing I remember about this movie is that I was bored out of my mind watching it.
You know, the problems professional critics have is... they have extremely high bars. To the point that simply good movies look mid tier to them, while mid tier movies look like low tier to them. This movie, while is mid, it's high mid. I love the visual aesthethics, vibes. I mean, this movie felt like a comeback of classic old Disney Movies. I have watched his movie for the first time. I did not expect something out of ordinary, i expected a simple fun movie i wanted to watch since i was a kid... and it was very fun. It did what i expected, it's very enjoyable. There should be more light-heared movies like this. Also humor in this movie is refreshing compared to modern movie humor.
Sadly, I'm blinded by nostalgia..... So I actually love this movie..... It's a movie I had to watch when I was younger and I still watch it today (Once in a long while)
But then they find out THAT THE FARM IS BEING CLOSED DOWN

Granted, I'm pretty sure the only time that really worked with was with Dumbo, which did really well and helped them in the 40's slump. Otherwise, it's a blockbuster that brings them out of the crapper (Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, arguably Tangled).
Anyway, AristoCats had to have done something better, because I watched these both as a kid and I still come back to the AristoCats to this day.
Plus, the Super Mario Show is at least so bad, it's laughable (to me at least).
My favorite parts of this film were the scenes with slim and his nephews
You know what's really shocking? Brother Bear has a 38% on RottenTomatoes, while Home on the Range has a 56%. No, really.
I don't take Rotten Tomatoes that seriously
Brother Bear is just 38%?! Not that I hate Home on the Range, but come on, Brother Bear is a masterpiece deserving waaaayyy better!
this is it, this is how Disney hand drawn movies died
+Alex Valiente What about Princess and the Frog? That was 2D.
And Winnie the Pooh 2011
+Starbrand Lives They tried bringing it back with The Princess and the Frog and Winnie the Pooh, but they weren't huge financial hits, which is why they are still producing CGI-animated films. Let's be fair though, the CGI films starting with Tangled are still amazing films regardless.
2D animation died because of Pixar...
ChewiLover53 f"ck Pixar
There is one thing i loved from this movie, and it is the villain song where he hypnotizes the cows
My scout troupe got taken to this. We were the only ones in the theater so we just played tag when we got bored after like the first 5 minutes. The yodeling villain song stopped us for a minute because it just came out of nowhere but that's all

But then they find out that the *FARM IS BEING CLOSED DOWN!!!!!*
@@Treeeee2008 Gee, you're such a bore.
Honestly this has always delighted me as a kid and even now, it's not just cheery it's uplifting, it's a really like able movie
I understand that most don't like this movie but I used to love this so much as a kid It just gives me smiles. Personally for me 9/10
i liked this movie.
You’re a special kind of stupid aren’t you? This is the movie that killed the animation studio until 2009
0:59 this the part you trying to find?
Yes

@@brayanargandonaflorentino548 You think so.
Even Steve Buscemi couldn't save this sinking ship. Home on the Range was promoted like crazy when I was a kid, so much that they even had somebody handing out posters here at a mall in rural Nova Scotia advertising it... so it felt like even more of a letdown when I finally watched it.
Out of all the characters in this movie my favorite has to be, the Chinese guy.
So, Doug hates The Aristocats, but I love it. That doesn't mean I'd enjoy this film, too, does it?
there was a ton of creativity in the animation here; the yodeling villain, the funny dynamic chase scenes, the score was good, the voice actors had a lot of personality. While certainly it didn't take a lot of risks with the story and clearly geared more towards kids, I don't think it's fair to call this a bad movie at all.
I liked this film and got it for my birthday this year
Bright and Smiley?
Hey! It's how most people want comic book movies to be!
A lot of comic book films have good scripts behind them. This cow shit doesn't
This movie was a right bore, at least with the Aristocats: Duchess and Thomas O Malley were likable.
Iftekhar Ahmed very true.
agreed
I had alot of fun watching this in the theaters. When I was younger. I haven't watched it since that one time.
I wanted to see this movie so badly as a child. Once i saw it I was a little overwhelmed.
Noooooo I loved this movie so much! I still do (probably). Poor Home on the Range! It was so sweet and lovable
i remember seeing this in theatres and loving it to bits and they gave kids (like me at the time) cowbells... I don't know anymore.

(I know I'm a year late) I agree, there are a lot worse Disney films out there, let alone animated films
This movie is so boring that it took a UA-cam comment to point out that subtlety.
I think he meant that, while there are edgy jokes (like the ones you mentioned), the humour isn't smart enough (like in most Disney movies).
I totally agree with you! This movie is one of my favorites the jokes are so fast most people don't see them. The opening song is so funny and most people don't even hear the jokes in it! This movie is great!
Agreed
In my favorite Disney Animated films, this on the 8th position
i actually quite enjoyed this movie
It's a guilty pleasure of mine, but it's mostly the nostalgia for me.
Why does everybody hate this? I loved this movie!
Black Cauldron is Disney’s low point
Home on the Range: hold my beer
Aristocats? Really?
How does it feel to get trashed on by the director?
I'm gonna be honest my sister and I liked this movie and lowkey I still do. We were about 7 when we first watched it. The villain was fun tbh
This is my top favorite:
10° Mulan
9° Chicken Little
8° Home on The Range
7° Meet the Robinsons
6° Dumbo
5° The Emperor's New Groove
4° Aladdin
3° Hercules
2° The three "The Lion King" movies
Honorable Mentions:
Brother Bear
Treasure Planet
The Great Mouse Detective
The Jungle Book
Lady and The Tramp
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Beauty and the Beast
Bolt
Big Hero 6
Zootopia
1° Fantasia 2000
I recently rewatched this movie, and all I could think about was how fast it was moving. Seriously, this movie is an hour and ten minutes and it never slows down, and that hampers it greatly. There’s never any time to really get to know the characters (probably because there wasn’t much to them anyway) and it just comes off as weird when the movie is just going a hundred miles and hour until the credits.
I remember seeing this and then thinking oh yeah he's going to review my favorite movie ever and then I saw that he didn't like it I was like great now I have hate it now
jack and daz are best
you don't have to agree with him. a lot of movies are hated by critics but loved by people. it's just another opinion.
Vivikatsidhe yeah i know i was like oh yay caus we had mostly simmalr opinions
jack and daz are best
I've encountered the same thing (I happen to like the Aristocats). but I still like what I like.
what do you like about it?
Woodenfan just found it funny
i like this movie even 20 years later
I DON'T CARE I FREAKING LOOOOOOOVE DIS MOVIE!!!!!!!!!
Kind of attached to this cause it reminds me of my grandma.
And give it credit for using yodeling in a entertaining way.
This movie is easily the Troll in Central Park of Disney animation.

Funny, I remember really liking this movie as a kid. I was maybe 9 or 10 years old.
I saw it in the theater when I was ten. I loved going to the theater, but the only thing I remember about this movie is that I was bored out of my mind watching it.
my childhood
It's a movie I had to watch when I was younger and I still watch it today (Once in a long while)
I guess I'm the only one who likes this movie, even to this days.
I love the songs, I love the villain and I like the characters.
I loved this as a kid tbh
I remember when the trailer for this movie came out
0:59 You’re welcome
6 or 5/10: It feels like a direct-to-video film.
I watched this movie when i was seven years old, and even then I thought this movies was made for babies. I only liked because of the animation
