    Thanks so much! Someone gave me this vintage machine and it threads so differently to the others that I use. Really helpful, thanks!

    Brief and Brilliant, exactly what I needed but I still could not see the hole until I put a torch into the bobbin cavity, all very tiny - thanks for posting :)

    My elna zz is not picking up the shuttle thread so it's missing stitches . I have turned the tension on the bobbin up and down to no avail. It seems as if it is the top tension but I'm at a loss now. Thank you for letting me know what the spring is for behind the shank much easier than trying to get it with my fingers.

    • @jamesrogers991
      @jamesrogers991  4 роки тому

      The spring behind the shank goes into the bobbin to pull it out. Are you turning the wheel towards you? Is the needle flat side to the back of the machine? Are you threading front to back. Open the bobbin door cover and watch to see that the hook is spinning and catching the needle thread. that will tell you if the needle is in correct (all the way up and flat to the back) and if timing is correct.

      @@jamesrogers991 Hi there thank you so much I didn't know what the spring was for ! silly me, but wow it does make it so much easier to remove the bobbin. Worked out what was wrong.... mmmmm shouldn't let my daughter use my machines I knew it was a bad idea... The needle was bent so the thread wasn't catching the hook on the shuttle casing.. Changed needle all back to full working order again.. thank goodness! My she has a lead foot my daughter !! I have tried to tell her but it's lost cause now she's 47!!!.

      @@bustnmyballs OK we need to try a few things. First is check the needle -- put a new needle flat side to the back. Thread the machine again. Open bobbin area so you can see the mechanism. Turn the machine so the handwheel is facing you and the turn the wheel counterclockwise. Now that you know which way things move, put the machine so that you are in front of the bobbin area and do the test again. Does it pick up the thread? If not, get in close and see if the hook is meeting the needle as it begins the way back up. Let me know the results.

    • @jamesrogers991
      @jamesrogers991  4 роки тому

      @@bustnmyballs I could not reply on your channel (I could not find the comment button). It looks like your machine is out of time. The hook should go near the needle -- you will need to take the covers off, loosen the screw and bring it back into time. Have no fear, it will be fiddly, but is not difficult.

    Being completely new to elna machines I had no idea which way around the thread shouls be wound or which way it should unwind when in the machine. I think I gauged the direction from your video!

    • @carolynrogers1510
      @carolynrogers1510 2 роки тому

      You always wind bobbin with holes on top and load it the same way, then direction is always correct. Only Swiss Elna bobbin, 7 holes on top, smooth under and slightly dished.

    Hi James thanx for the detailed view. In my Zu the thread will not JUMP into the little whole you mentioned in your Video. I have ready the Manual carefully and Clean Up everything. Do you have any Idea?

      Try loosening the screw to 0 and see if the thread will go in then. Also, put your finger on the bobbin when trying to get it under the spring. It is also possible that there is a small end of a thread stuck or fluff stuck in the tension part blocking things.

    hi James may you demo how an ELNA 1500-1600 needle bar gets unstuck and unjammed as well as hook timing re-synch? thanks man ! your videos are pretty awesome ! (TLC sewing machinery appreciates your crystal clear tutorials)

    Hello James just bought this Elna tx electronic, I have cleaned it, very dusty with lots of fluff under the bobbin plate, but overall looking good - except I can't get the bobbin spool to wind properly it is winding mostly at the bottom of the spool, the bobbin wonder is working properly, not stiff.
    I don't know if I have used the correct procedure for placement of the thread(do you have a video of that?) Is there free download manual you could direct me to?.
    I h
    Just want to say thanks for you video it helped a non technical like me. Keep up the good work, it's a shame to see old sewing machines just thrown away. I will always use vintage first. Julia Walker (Scotland)

    Hello can you tell me please what is possible the problem if it doesn't take the threat from the bobbin?thank you very much

    • @jamesrogers991
      @jamesrogers991  5 років тому

      Are you turning the handwheel manually? If so, make sure that you turn it towards you. Is the needle in with the flat side to the back? Have you threaded the needle from front to back. Also, leave the trap door open and watch to see that the hook grabs the thread and pulls it around the bobbin.

    • @conduracheemanuel6825
      @conduracheemanuel6825 5 років тому

      James Rogers Yes,I turn the wheel manually.The round house of the bobbin doesn't move when I turn the big wheel manually.May be that is blocked because of mess down there?can I clean that "house" of bobbin under?I hope that you understand my problem and can help me.Thank you very much

    • @jamesrogers991

      @@conduracheemanuel6825 That worries me. I would suggest clean up the bobbin area, but you need to take the end part off with the motor and see if the belt is connected to the bobbin shaft.

    Hi James. I have the same machine, it was from my mother in law. By any chance do you have the book 2 of the machine? Could you share it with me in PDF? Thank you so much.

  • @jamesrogers991
    @jamesrogers991  8 років тому +1

    C G If you are still having problems, then put different colour thread in the bobbin than in the top thread and start sewing. This will show up where the problem is originating. You need to be sure that there is not fluff in the feed dogs or bobbin area.

    What device/tool did you use to remove the bobbin early in your demo? Nice and clear tutorial! Thanks.

    • @jamesrogers991
      @jamesrogers991  6 років тому

      The tool (or I call it tail) is attached to the machine at the back. If yours is not there, you might try a pencil with eraser.
