I remember one time i was on a plane at night. When i woke up and looked through the window, i saw the moon floating on the clouds gracefully. All of a sudden, the melody of this song came to my mind, and i felt deeply touched.
This song gives me the biggest case of lovesickness,I think of the Greek myth of Calypso stuck on her island and the art in this video just helps portray that even more so,I remember sitting with my bestfriend and listening to this performed live, one of the happiest moments Ill never forget...however I visit this song out of bittersweetness every now and long for a time that probably will never come again...atleast not with her...
4:45 is such a beautiful, awesome moment. I played this with my all district band this past weekend and actually being a part of the sound made this 5 times as amazing. The sheer power that was created in that moment was almost supernatural.
We played this once in a University ensemble and I'll always remember my friend playing that simple but iconic sax part, where it's alone and calling out.
My high school band might be playing this piece. Not only is the melody beautiful but the heartbreaking story behind the piece takes it to a new level. Strongly recommend to check it out!

I mean it is called this CRUEL moon. it's also partly in a minor key, creating a sad tone
That’s actually what this piece is based on
Exactly. Such a perfect texture of nostalgia and just a beautiful longing for the wonderful past
Julie, a love lost. This composition makes me think of you.
This brought me to tears
Ik it's been two years but it makes my cry all the time too when I listen to it

Dylan Elias I played Eb Contrabass Clarinet on this piece and it was the highlight of my entire time in High School to this day
Dylan Elias we had our parish honor band concert tonight and we played this. It drew me to tears while performing it on stage. Truly amazing piece

i have never been not liked one of john mackey’s pieces. something about the way he writes, it truly speaks volume to a musician.
Makes me cry
I love John Mackey. He specifically made a Eb Contra-Alto part as a substitute for the Bb
for what instrument?
MEGA BOB!!!! It’s like the Contrabass Clarinet, but it’s Keyed for Eb. It’s basically the Bari Sax of the clarinets
@@nathanmajdanski2406 Like the Bari sax
*but deeper*
Monsieur Muffin precisely. 6 half steps lower if I’m correct
So pretty, truly talented writer
You gotta love the fact that this guy also
has almost no experience *in* band and hasn't played any instruments lol
If i'm remembering what my teacher said correctly at least lol
You can feel the conflict within Calypso.
i just want to play this piece again
