Gently pulls the window out from breaking it. Get window out. Then roughly throws it on the floor 🤦🏽♂️😂😂😂

Other repair experts say to use a flathead screwdriver to twist and move the disengaged shoe.

My window had been very difficult to close to the fully latched position (new owner of this home). Today the window seemed to spring loose, and lost all support. I noticed these long rectangular bars at the far outside that seemed to have no attachment. Can this be fixed without spending a mint?

Thank you, this has been bugging me for a year and was an easy fix after watching your video. One thing to mention - when I twisted the shoe it was under pressure so it loudly and unexpectedly snapped up to the top of the jamb, but was still easy enough to set in the correct place after that.
My window parts are not at all like yours. I have long, grey bars the full length of the sash, and it is one of those that is lose and falling out. This home is 35 years old, no company name shown on any of the window parts. Is this like plumbing parts where companies go out of their way to make parts non-interchangeable?
Hey, Window Dog, thanks! I'm a 65 yo lady who knows squat about windows, and I did this myself. A suggestion: If there's a way to zoom in momentarily on small parts that you are referencing--in this case, the shoe, it'd be terrific. A question: What is the name of the upper part of the locking mechanism? It's the part on the jam that is covered by plastic and has a tightly coiled mechanism inside. I noticed on my window that the plastic is broken on that side of the jam where the shoe had fallen. I simply left the broken plastic piece in there and was able to successfully manipulate the shoe, and the window now stays up. However, does that plastic piece/coil need to be replaced? What is it called? I don't want to have someone tell me I need a new window, when I just need to replace that part. Thank you so much!
Take a picture of the piece with the coil. Take the picture to Lowe's or Home Depot - most of the folks who work there can help you. Whether or not you can get the part from them - don't know. But usually they can tell you how to get it. :)

When I tilt mine to 90° expecting it to come out but then I noticed each latch is screwed into the sash. 🤷🏻♂️ . I never had this problem for the past eight years until I started opening the windows 90° to clean them and take the screens out. I think I might replace them with some swing out windows. All my windows have stickers that say 2002 on them. I live in -40° winters in Winnipeg, recommend any good windows? Thanks for your time!

Great fix advice but please people, DO NOT USE YOUR CAR KEY - IT WILL GET DAMAGED!!! Use a flathead screwdriver! Oh and seriously, don't THROW the window on the floor, you know something will break! 🤣🤣🤣
Omg! I have this exact window. I was cleaning all the windows in my house and after the window wouldn’t open. Ladies this video is for you. My boyfriend is pretty handy and he watched UA-cam videos and still couldn’t fix it. That was months ago in December. It’s June 3rd and I just wanted the nice cool summer breeze, was determined to fix this window. One of my balance is broken, however, this trick worked!! I opted for a flathead screw driver because the key method was going to break my keys! It was really tough getting it to unlock and lock back, but use those muscles! Anyways thumbs up to this video! I am woman! Hear me roar! I feel so powerful after doing what you taught in this video. After almost an hour of playing with the window while the hubby was installing a new kitchen faucet, I was hesitant to tell him I done did break the bathroom window. So I headed to UA-cam and found this. Voila! I did exactly as you said even though our windows were a bit different in the foot dept. What a great feeling it was to fix the window myself. I've been strutting around for hours. LOL
so i have windows with 2 shades like this and upper ones fall down so idk what to do to keep it closed- my bf put a wooden stick that blocks it in one and today anotehr one fall down and scared me-mine can be open from top of window down and bottom too and upper part when closed sometimes fall down not always
I have to thank you. I have a window the top won't stay up and I wasn't able to keep the window open. It happened right after I had the Windows cleaned. I watched the videos and in 1 minute I had the window fixed. I was going to screw the top window in place, but now have full use of the window.
My problem must be a balance. I still can't get it to stay opened but I must say the tutorial video was very helpful for when I have a 'shoe' problem. Thanks
This video is like a God send! After thinking that I caused the problem by snugging up the center screws in the window or wasn't re-installing the trim correctly that hides the upper track, working on it for God knows how long, consulting the instructions that didn't cover any installation problems or adjustments, searching the manufacture's website that also didn't cover installation problems or adjustments, I end up resorting to good old UA-cam that's saved my a** I don't know how many times! And using your key for a tool and throwing the sash on the floor gave me a good laugh in the process! This was exactly my problem. I can't believe it was staring me right in the face and I just didn't see it! Thank you for making this video from the bottom of my heart!

The metal tension band snapped, most of it broke off from is anchor and rolled up into a ring above the shoe. Completely broken, what should i do?

I think what I've learned is that I have a single hung window (screen can't move, storm window only on bottom) but my top sash has become loose and will fall (on a few of my windows too).

Yeah I have one that just stopped staying up. It moves a little side-to-side, and I can see the pivot bar on one side. Never really had a problem with this window before, but now we open and close it on a daily basis now. These are 30 year old windows, so we will see
Hi, I've metal window pane that's crooked when I pull up it up or down, I've noticed there's only one spiral on the left side. Are there supposed to be two of them (one on each side)?

we have thermopane windows like that it came off like that vidow i put back on its track but if we open it for an air conditioner the top two clips one is missing and no track to clip on. Yesterday we unlocked the window but it was not on the slidersthe window keeped opening with the wind

My window made a loud snap or pop sound when I went to open it and now sash will not stay up, what should I look for in this case?
What if lifting the window is really really hard(heavy) to lift/ slide up.
ps the shoe is still engaged I'm the window.
Please let everyone know if the sach pivot is slightly bent it won't engage the shoe

I had this problem after taking my sashes out of the frames to clean them, and this video was a lifesaver! The only recommendation I have would be to maybe zoom in on the small parts.

Great clip, I'm having an issue with replacing the actual spring not able to clip it to one of the holes to allow it to spring into place. If I buy the entire casing, how would I remove the shoe? Seems I'd have to break the plastic in order to do so. Any thoughts?
