definitely agree - i applied to about 50 positions my senior year of college (i'd grind and job search and apply during basically all of my free time) and was fortunate enough to get a few offers to choose from. i always tell my younger friends who are finishing up college to "just keep applying" and go to networking events - there's a lot of opportunity out there but you have to put yourself out there to be found by the right people.

Can you have an Electrical Engineering degree and transition to Environmental Engineering? I have an Electrical Engineering degree but want to work for the Department of Environmental Conservation. I’ve been in my field since 2008.

I know you're out in California, which seems to have the most EnvE opportunities, but I was wondering if you knew anything about the job market in the NJ/Philadelphia area? I know its on the complete opposite side of where you are, but I figure I may as well ask. Im also thinking about water resources engineering if EnvE opportunities are too few around here
You can do water resources engineering with an environmental engineer major . Just take electives based on water systems and whatnot ur upperclassman years

If it's unpaid, it should be easier than finding a paid internship. Just advertising yourself as "free" should attract companies and employers. Just know your limit and don't find yourself being manipulated.

You dont need to be a licensed Professional Engineer to start working. It is highly recommended because it will make you stand out and you will get paid more, but it is not required. I dont have my license yet either but I still have this job.
I'm glad you're interested in this field at such a young age! During my high school years, I didn't know of any engineering internship opportunities. You can imagine that most positions that you might find online would be oversaturated with college students applying as well. So you would be competing with many other and potentially advanced students. That being said, if you could find any that are exclusive to high school students, than you should apply. If not, then focus on finding soft skill internship/volunteer work. This could be volunteering at a library, food bank, YMCA, or even at a hospital. These are typically "low hanging" fruit probably don't even pay you, but you'll gain practical experience.
