BEHIND THE SONG:
"Ua patipati ta'oto le Fe'epo"
"Fe'epo clapped his hands while lying down"
Alagaupu o le loto fiafia
Back in the days, fit, healthy and athletic Samoan men used to sword fight...but instead of using swords.. they used what is called a lapalapa. The lapalapa is the spine of a Coconut tree leaf, the part that we use to make the Tuaniu for a salu lima.
Fe'epo was an old blind man. Fe'epo's son Leatiogie was into this game, so he went and fought. Fe'epo could not make the journey to watch his son, so he stayed home (Faleula) and he tapua'i'd. Leatiogie won and the good news reached his father in Faleula, his father was lying down at the time and out of joy he applauded his son!
