CYCLOPES AND HECATONCHEIRES - FIRST PRISONERS OF TARTARUS The tale of the first beings sent to Tartarus, the eternal prison in the hell of Greek Mythology. The Cyclopes are the one eyed giants who made the Olympians their most powerful weaponry. The Hecatoncheires are the hundred handed giants. Living Mythology is an attempt to entertain, relax and educate all in the one place. We are trying to forge narratives so that people can experience the religions and mythologies of the world as they were meant to be. Not as dry academic monoliths, but as living breathing tales and parables as experienced by the peoples who worshipped these beings, in an attempt to make sense of their own lives and the world around them. This channel is in its infancy, so we hope to improve and develop it as we gain more experience. All of the tales are taken from very conflicting traditions across many centuries, so there will be many a moment when decisions need to be made to create a more cohesive narrative. If we present something that seems to be in contrast to details, rest assured we have researched many forms of the traditions and come to the conclusions we have done to form the videos. There will NEVER be total agreement on any of these narratives due to the history and differing ways they developed over the centuries. These videos are for entertainment and an easy gateway to the subject. If you wish more academic details then please direct your attention to the wide source material and others who perform those types of academic video essays. Hats off to Lightbringer for writing this wonderful bit Greek myth into video. I very much appreciate the work you BOTH do, it doesn't go unnoticed. Again, much love, and thank you for breathing life into our ancestors ancient myths.
A request, something to consider Your channel will be bringing light to long-forgotten gods of vanished civilizations. You can give life to the dead. I look forward to your work and hope to see more mythologies brought into the fold
As a Greek, this means a lot to me. Especially the respect and tactfulness of your approach. Should you need any help translations or proposition on source material, I d be happy to offer my services. Thank you for giving our past a new life in our present.
As a child the cyclopses scared the hell out of me. But your sensible and emotional narration from their (and the Hecatoncheires') point of view made their tragic existence all the more apparent. This was very touching and enjoyable!
Man, just imagine having 50 heads and a hundred limbs, immediately getting abandoned at birth and figuring it out by yourself as an infant. Just the thought of it is an absolute nightmare. Man, Greek mythology is metal af huh.
@@livingmythology1405 thank you very much for the work you guys do on this channel, when I was a teen I was absolutely fascinated with ancient Greeks and especially their mythology, and there isn't really that much content with quality narration and storytelling on the topic, so it's really greatly appreciated in these trying times to get to listen to stuff that I used to find comfort in. Resentment and conflict between generations is a main theme of greek myth. I don't know how much it was meant to reflect real life. I know that every generation looks down upon it's predecessors a bit or more. But in ancient greece there wasn't any real advancement between generations. You would most likely end up in the same position as your parents before you , if you were lucky and worked hard to maintain your conditions.( Even today that has better social mobility the vast majority would still have to work hard to live the same lives or similar to their parents). Technolgoy wasn't advancing so much and spreading so fast that generational differences wouldn't be even 100th of how vast they can be toady. There's a possibility for this to reflect a psychological unconciouss desire for that to be the case. For generations to be separated by gulfs in all fronts and be better than their predecessors. I guess realistically , in a society wich put a lot of strenght in duty and privilege for certain members (especially in the family unit ), fast advancement and accumulation of strenght in younger hands , would make for greater resentment from the older relatives. But that's not the only or main factor. Need to think more on the symbols. I think its also a metaphor supeirority. That in the end the "superior" one takes what the inferior other has to fuel his greater achievements. Being the normal thing to do. Maybe if the lesser gods just learned to live on the sidelines many problems could have been avoide. But they represent even bad aspects of humanity so wanting to keep everything in the same stage that gave you your better position is to be expected. Let's not forget that the ancient greeks were convinced they were the superior ones or able to overcome themselves by being themselves. Convenient.
