    Mrs Lisa love your joy of gardening. I have harvested red norland potatoes, purple potatoes, peppers(Hungarian), cherry tomatoes, green beans, okra, onions, baby carrots and my very first zucchini. Still eating and harvesting collards, chard and celery. This is my second year trying to garden just trying to get better.

    I harvested compost today and spread it on my tomato beds. Then I went to a friend’s house to get some goat manure. I refilled my compost bin by alternating the manure with bagged leaves I collected last fall. I am excited. My back hurts though.

      Hello! Did you print your grow calendar? You need to get it if now. You probably should have started your seeds in December for your Spring and Summer seasons. You can still get that calendar, go to Almanac.com and put in your zip code and it will give you a grow calendar. Be sure and get it so you can start your Fall garden in good time. Lisa - You picked a nice harvest. I ordered some Roma bush beans after looking at one of your earlier videos. I have some ready to transplant; but I am waiting to remove my dazzling blue kale. I call that type bean Italian and usually buy them frozen. I have been harvesting since early May. I have been picking various types green beans, cucumbers, squash, peppers, zucchini, kale,broccoli crowns and leaves. I have harvested giant red mustards, broadleaf mustard and recently began picking okra pods. My tomatoes and eggplants are not quite ready.

      Hello! My dazzling blue kale was eaten up by pests a while back. I sat it separate from the other kale and it did better, but I believe the moth has laid eggs on it because it's looking funny again! Sounds like you're having fun harvesting as well! I'm just now getting to the fun part! 😂😂 We usually wash, blanch, and freeze our green beans. Thanks for stopping by! See on the next video!!

    I have harvested bok choy, collards, a couple onions that were bent over, lettuce, a few peas, and radishes. My beans and cucumbers are just now starting to produce. The tomatoes have lots of blooms on them now and I even have a few babies that I have not put out yet. I finally got some Paul Robison and I have a couple starts, they will be going into the garden a little late, but I have a long growing season so they should be ok. I am still waiting to harvest the garlic. I am trying to wait as long as I can, but I am growing impatient. I do already have quite a few hot peppers producing very nicely. Happy Birthday to your cousin. See you next time. Happy Harvesting!

      @gardeningwithlisa  3 місяці тому +1

      Hello! When I first transplanted them and they got some size, I sprayed Bacillus thuringiensis or BT on them and I covered with shade cloth. I think I did that too late because the little worms ate them up! I have a video where I was harvesting them and it was just pitiful! This is the video: ua-cam.com/video/Bt8ZJDn8SHM/v-deo.html. One of my Subscribers told me to take the shade cloth off and just let the birds come eat the worms! 😂😂 So, I did and they look perfect now! I normally don't cover them because they can grow no matter how hot or how cold it gets! So, you can try and spray BT on your Swiss Chard. If it rains, spray more because rain will wash it off. Thank you so much for watching!

      Oh noooo!! Do you have any shade cloth? When I get off today, I'm putting up shade cloth all over my garden because starting tomorrow we will be getting into hi 90's and by weekend we will be in 3 digit temps! My garden may ignite too! I'm still now done with my drip install! Last night I went to work on it and found a ding dong turtle in the garden! So I was done and got zero accomplished!! But last night I was watched youtube on tv and I say Millennial Gardener talking about shade cloth and now is time to put it up! Last year I remember him saying he builds a Shade Cloth High Tunnel. Here's his video: ua-cam.com/video/SbWcCxV7OOE/v-deo.html. I wanted to get more shade cloth but I spent all my money on drip irrigation stuff! 😂😂 You may even need to throw a big one over your greenhouse! I'm sure you don't want your plants in there to ruin! Look into it if you have not yet! It really does help some. That's why I have shade cloth over my brassicas and they are still doing well because of the shade cloth. Let me know!

      I’ve learned the importance of using mulch to help retain moisture in the soil. I used to think mulch meant the wood bark stuff they sell as mulch, but that’s not the only thing you can use. My homemade compost is coarser and looks unfinished, but it’s a nice mulch. A month ago I laid down some paper yard waste bags that I got leaves in off the side of the road. Yesterday I lifted one up and the soil was moist underneath even though the bare soil was bone dry. I have a bunch of rocks to weigh down the bags so they don’t blow away. I plant potatoes on a double row and put leaves down the center. It’s moist under them and the plants are tall enough to keep the leaves from blowing away. My newest favorite mulch is wool. It doesn’t blow away, prevents weeds, and retains moisture. The hard part is finding a 4-H kid who raises sheep to give me some.

    • @gardeningwithlisa
      @gardeningwithlisa  3 місяці тому +1

      Oh wow! I sure hate to hear your garden is not doing so well! Amy is totally correct, mulch works really well to hold moisture for your plants. I used the straw last Fall to mulch my plants to keep them warm over the winter, and I'm still using mulch to keep my plants moist and cool. I use shade cloth as well so the sun can beam down on the plants. If you still have some plants you want to try and save, try mulch on them and if you are able get some shade cloth to give them a little shade from the sun. I sure hope things can grow better in your garden!
