Holy smokes that jointer sneak peek
thankyou for watching the whole vid. Video on the Jointer coming soon.
@@izzyswan Hi Izzy, would you be interested in a new clamp mod?
Your shop is getting ridiculously organized and Color coordinated - thanks Maggie!
Love the mic placement. And the contrast between jointers. 😂
Its now a classic mic placement. After watching your video it makes me smile every time i clip it on, which means i will probably never change it now. lol
@@izzyswan haha. What’s funny is I actually prefer the sound quality on the hat vs a lapel. But I have too much pride to go back now!
Check out Yankee workshop from about 25 years ago. He had a modular work bench for his router, table saw, sander, etc. They all inserted into his bench so he could utilize the fence guides he had built in. Then, he had a cabinet, that his tools with bench insert fit in for storage.
Still one of the coolest set ups I've ever seen.
l watched the same show. Even built a flip table for a small table saw and sander about 15 years ago.
Gotta link?
Great video, but I had to laugh... You talked about improving the dust collection on your miter saw then you used your table saw without any dust collection.
Yep. we are working on that soon
Izzy, I've enjoyed your videos ever since I saw you make a bowling ball on the table saw. Your ingenuity has been an inspiration to me.
That being said I've got to tell you that in the last few years you have moved away from the tone of your original videos and have gotten into more and more things that showcase complex and expensive tools. And so have lost a lot of my interest. I'm a hobbyist and not a wealthy one with room or budget for all the gadgets.
I can't complain that you have moved on. That's natural and to be expected.
I can mourn the loss of what attracted me to your videos in the first place.
This is just not Izzy's videos. This is happening to a lot of the popular maker sites.
They need to get back to their routes.
That's ROOTS not ROUTES
Ive been wanting to make one of these for a while now and this design seems perfect for my needs. Thanks Izzy and Maggie. Great video.
Awesome! really glad you like it.
I am happy to have found your channel. I am disabled with a ruined spine. I love this idea. I appreciate your content because it really does relate to my constraints due to pain. Thank you both for spending time making this available.
Aw come on Izzy, you got to share your plans with us! We love them. Please don't stop selling your plans. I really enjoy your ideas and I have built several already myself. Merry Christmas!!
The drawers with foam are the genius part of this build. Thanks!
The kaizen foam in the drawers is brilliant! And the flip cart idea is great as someone with a smaller-ish shop. I'm always looking for ways to make things more mobile and space efficient. Thanks for sharing!
Totally agree!
Awww come on man, gotta make some plans for that cart, it is awesome!!!!!
This is the inspiration I need to build .... something for a really small area with access to 1 wall socket....
I just discovered your channel. I’m a retired union carpenter. No mater how much you’ve done in your life there’s always new stuff to learn. I learn something every time I watch. Good job.
Izzy, your brain is at another level. Brilliant. Gifted. We are blessed that you share your gifts.
I’d be interested in seeing more of how you made the rotating top for your planer. I’ve been wanting to build a flip top tool stand for a number of years but haven’t gotten around to it ;partly because I need to do a deep cleaning of my shop but that’s a whole different story; but I really like the design of yours especially with the rotating side.
Maggie did a great job explaining everything. Wow that Phantom is amazing looking.
😆
Your going to have to make a set of roller stands, so as the long stock comes out of the planer there are a couple of standing rollers on each side to help support the weight.
Hopefully they add a dust chute for the Hercules sliding miter saw.
Very nice! Great job Izzy and Maggie! That's a great cart and thanks for sharing about the WEN jointer!
The dust collection quick connects! I really hoped Santa was bringing me a couple. Winter lay-off suck!
Love this one Izzy and Mags. Love my dust collector for the Bosch from Chris. Love you guys.
Thank you Gary we are both really happy to have it done. Hope you are staying warm
I made one of these for my shop a few years back. I have my DeWalt planner on one side and DeWalt job site saw on the other.
What a BEAST of a jointer!!! 💰 🔥
A custom millwork shop that I worked at 30 years ago had 18” face and 6” side heads with a power feed similar to the belt on a commercial wide belt sander. It was awesome, loved using it for large stock ( 8” wide 8/4 and larger) I believe it was a 10hp 3 phase almost everything was 1 pass! Never thought anyone would make one small enough for home or small shops! Good to hear, will be very interested!
I have seen a few larger versions back in the day. So nice!
Thanks for the link to the dust collection for the Bosch saw. The flip cart is nice as I am in the process of downsizing.
Glad it was helpful!
Nice space saving tip and design - you are always coming up with great solutions!
Always enjoy your videos. Thanks
One of the best things ever when watching videos is the inspiration they give, it's invaluable ... thanks for sharing 👍
thanks for the tip on the Bosch dust collection. mine will be here January 5th.
Awesome work Izzy! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Thank you! Cheers!
Genius design !
Glad you like it!
Aah! you showed the upgrade to the chop saw dust collection... very nice... then ran your table saw with the dust port wide open!
You always bring your own little twist for familiar project that makes it special. like it
The rotating top is really clever
You guys are awesome. Thank you for another great one.
Our pleasure! Thank you!
That planer looks just like the Dewalt 734 with the features and the carriage lock. I like my 734 a lot.
Simple brilliance, as always ✌️
Thank you so much 😀
That tool cart helps her because she's just little. Love you people.
That’s great job 👏 👍
Very cool flip top I’ve been watching all the videos trying to get ideas to build one for myself love the idea of the draws in the top going to try to use that idea thanks for sharing. Always look forward to seeing what you guys do next
Perfect 👏
I’m tickled to see this project right now, because I’m planning a flip cart for my shop… I bought the Oliver planer about 6 months ago and it is an awesome tool, easily the best “lunchbox” planer out there! I was thinking of putting my bench grinder on the other side, but after watching this I’m seriously considering buying the Wen bench top jointer. Great content as usual, keep ‘‘em coming!
Looks and functions great, I couldn't quite work out the turntable mechanism, I know you showed it just can't work out how it doesn't foul the drawers and what is keeping it in place, a vid on that detail woild be awesome.
Great build!
Thank you
I like the drawers. you need some gravity pins/latches so the upside down drawer doesn't open and dump tools.
I really like seeing a father bringing his kids into good healthy pass times like wood working. even if she never chooses to earn a penny with it, you have made amazing memories, and given her skills that she can use forever. I am 54 and still remember working on things with my dad when I was a small boy.
i got the wen planer but the bits are steel. i really like how much quieter it is compared to my straight blade planer.
Awesome cart thanks for sharing and that jointer is freaking sweet
Thanks for watching!
You guys, wow. I watch your channel for a few reasons but what sticks out almost unexpectedly is your innovative mind, alwAys impressive. You guys know yourselves and such but I feel the need to point out the wicketkeeper pin may get stuck on, say, a belt or something else. That said, safety is subjective to a person's character and mind in some ways so this is just pointing it out :) grand stuff, I love it!
Always cool stuff here, a short on the turntable would be a hit I'm sure
You mentioned using a cabinet scraper as a squeeze-out remover, but if you don't clean it right after using, the cabinet scraper can rust. I use an old credit card - just cut one short edge to make a couple right angles. Extra glue cracks off when the card is flexed.
Thank you for the video. I understand you're not going to have any plans for your builds but could you please show more of the build. Like how it functions, levers, pivot points, a 360° view of it, maybe even material sizes.
Good Stuff!
What a great build idea!! Love this channel!
Thanks so much!
@@izzyswan no sir, thank you!! I’m a relatively late comer to this channel, I’ve learned so much and have had so much fun catching up.
Wow, good idea for our small lab. thanks for sharing. Micky from Italy
Thanks for watching!
Well, this is one of your projects that definitely deserves a plan or at least an exploded view or a SketchUP model so I hope you’ll reconsider. Secondly while the turntable is cool if space is *really* limited, I think I’d just make the whole thing a few inches wider so as to mount the planer in the other direction. Less complicated and looks like 24” vs 20” or whatever would do the trick. I have a good old DeWalt 735 which honestly has been kind of disappointing but it’s OK. The other side would get a WEN Oscillating sander that I never use but would if it was set up better. Thanks Izzy cool stuff as always.
You could use a ball bearing stop to keep the drawer from pulling out when it is upside down - like the 3D puzzles that will only open when the "proper" side is up:
1) Drill a hole almost all the way through each face of the turn table,
centered on the drawer,
half the distance of the thickness of the drawer front, from the edge.
The hole needs to be on the bottom table face, relative to the drawer, so the holes will be in opposing faces.
2) Drill a very shallow hole in the matching location of the drawer face (on the bottom).
3) Slide each drawer in face up (table flipped accordingly), but put the ball bearing in first.
Nice job
Thank you for always sharing such great ideas. Congrats to you and Maggie. I was curious to know if you ever tried to make a hydraulic or electric lift work table? something that is flat and can be loaded down low and have the ability to be raised to comfortable working height. thank you
Very nice job on that flip-top cart Izzy! I have made a few of those and really like the way you modified the one that you made. Happy Holidays to you & the crew! 👍👍🌲🌲
You always create great content!
Glad you think so!
Ура! Супер-помощница оптимистка опять в строю!
I lime this design. Most are made of expensive thick plywood but i can see how when I make mine I will incorporate some of your design so I dont have to use as much plywood.
Спасибо за классное видео. Вы реально крутые мастера.
Travis over at Shop Nation also came out with an improved dust chute for Bosch miter saw as well. He has already created one for the Delta and is working on the Dewalt. Would be a interesting side by side and your thoughts Izzy.
I got one from him for the rigid too, waiting on it!
I know I’ve said it before but you are a very clever man. Stay safe, stay healthy and have a great Christmas 🌞
Mega cool 😂 grüße aus Deutschland 🇩🇪
this is amazing! I would love to see it when feeding wood through, maybe a future video?
Definitely!
Nice.
Thanks!
Puts the other 437 flip-cart videos to shame. Nice job.
I just bought that jointer 1 week ago and I thought there where 4 position in the blades as well. Sadly, you can only use 2 sides of it but it's a beast of a little machine for the price
Hola hombre grande. Ya lo sé, vos sos diseñador de utilitario. Saludos
Yep! Jointers hazardous if you aren't careful. I worked for a stair builder some 30 years ago and got complacent with safety. NOW, my middle finger on my left hand is the same length as my index and ring fingers. At first it felt like I had just bumped a sanding disk with the end of the finger. In actuality I had 400 or 500 slices the thickness of a human hair removed from the end of the finger in about 1/10 of a second. It didn't hurt until I noticed the bone. Luckily for me, I had just changed out the dull blades for fresh new ones or it would have probably grabbed and pulled me in when the dull blades hit bone.
Is it stable to the vibration?
You always have great videos!! Keep them coming.
Question on your shelf organizer where did you get the storage bins from? Do you still like them?
they are husky boxes i get from home depot when they are on sale. They get the job done
Greetings from Ireland. Great video, Your design is truly the best and it inspires me to make one. Did you make or purchase the swivel mechanism? just wondering how does the swivel mechanism keep the planner from falling off when inverted. Any words of wisdom would be much appreciated.
Izzy, thank you for all your great videos. This one is no exception. I have 'what's your opinion' question.
I'm in the market for a planer and I was planning on a DeWalt DW735 with Shelix head upgrade. This is the second video I've seen now talking about the Oliver planer. Since it would be about the same cost, in your opinion, what's the better option? Thanks
Question Iz - did you put on locking casters or some other kind of wheel lock? I could see this getting away from me if I were sending a long piece of lumber through the planer all alone. Otherwise, as usual, it's brilliant!
Izzy, this cart looks really nice. I couldn't tell from the video is it on wheels? Will you be offering plans? I didn't see any on the website.
Cool build! Got to say though that I thought the "cool tool" was something that I didn't have to buy with an arm and a leg. Thanks.
For ingenuity, in woodworking Izzy is definitely one of the very top dudes ... but $1200 for that bench planer ! I settle for my DeWalt.
Do you have a dust collection system for Dewalt Dws 780
How do you like that Oliver planer?
planer and jointer together seems like terrible workflow. Cool cart and very well thought out though! I can't believe I just discovered the channel. Very clean shop.
Hi Izzy - I noticed the "3d printed duct-collection enhancement" for the Bosch miter saw... I NEED THIS SO BAD! Care to share where to find / download? Did I miss a video about it??? THANK YOU!!!
I'm going to make one of these! But the only affordable materials I can get a hold of here in Australia is pine, non-structural formply, MDF, and OSB... I guess non-structural formply would work for the drawers. XD
Would OSB to suitable for the spinning part of the flipy thing? Or should I just bite the bullet and get some proper plywood?
Keep an eye out for discarded furniture. Although it may be a wreck visually, if it's older furniture, you can often harvest a lot of good quality lumber from them. That's how I build most of my shop furniture. Modern Ikea style furniture is mostly garbage and not worth salvaging.
@izzyswan how does the turntable top work? It must be something robust since it needs to hold the weight of the machine upside down.
What application(s) do you use to design wood working projects?
I’m not seeing the link for the miter saw dust collection port, any chance you could post it? Thanks!
If not plans, can you post/sell the files for those of us that have a Cnc?
I have been looking at that Oliver planer. It "reads" like it is the most best bang for the buck. What do you think?
I would agree it is a great planer.
@@izzyswan I just bought one.
thats a great project, its a shame plans will not be available. You sid that’s not the way you are going? What is you path for this video series now?
Good to see you Izzy, big fan! I thought I subscribed to you 4 years ago, I fixed that. Who is Maggie? She's kool!
Maggie is my girlfriend.
I could use some help trying to find out if that miter saw dust extraction will work for DeWalt dws779. I'm pretty sure I look through your information but I didn't see any particular link that showed me whether or not the dust extraction will work for the dws779. Can someone direct me to where I can get that link? I just bought one and I would be very interested in having much better desk collection. I have a teeny tiny shop when I have no place yet for me to have a devoted and dedicated miter saw station. Every tool has to be put away at the end of the day. My driveway is really my only Workshop.
Where do you get the planer quick connects?
We manufacture them. You Can buy them on our website. izzyswan.com
How much weight could this hold? I'm looking for a flip cart design for my machines - but my thicknesser is 38kg (83.6lbs) and my benchtop jointer is 28kg (61.6lbs).
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
😁👍
Brilliant work, Izzy! Nicely done! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
And merry Christmas!
Happy holidays!
