You have to go into the standing wave to set your crossovers for your front center and subwoofers on the Pioneer 505 you can also adjust your Q there and that makes a big difference too cuz you can definitely hear when all that locks in

For me, an AVR is audio first (primarily ATMOS & multi-channel SACD/DSD), so I'd either go with the Arcam or Yamaha's, (with identical DACs) the Yamaha's having the edge due to XLR in's & outs(unfortunately just 1 pair in & out--I wish it had 5.1 XLR out for at least multi-channel SACD). I typically won't even run HDMI video through the AVR, unless it has 100% pass-through, but it's not worth upgrading the AVR just to update HDMI since you can run HDMI directly from the BD-player to the TV, and usually an audio-only HDMI stream between the BD-player & AVR for surround sound/ATMOS. To me, the fewer interconnections, the better--except for 2-channel music where I prefer to separate the sources, DAC, pre's, other filters(equalizers), & amps.

When switching sources with the arcam, I find I have to default to the Apple TV first. It's as if Apple TV overrides everything!

Do you have CEC turned on? I turned mine off. But then I have the AV40. So older.

@@HTtimperry that's something I'll have to double check when I get home! Thanks for the tip though, after all I've got the avr20

Amir at Audio Science Review refused to recommend the Denon 3800 based on the performance of its dac. Disappointing news, as they can be had cheap, even in Canada, and they have features I'm very interested in: preouts with the ability to shut off the internal amps, and Auro 3d.
My question is how is the sound on the 3800?

my old pioneer was more punchy and crisp sound. Denon seems to smooth this out in a quality way but maybe takes away a bit of punch is that still a thing?

X3800 with BasX A3 for LCR and A4 surrounds or x4800 with BasX A3 for LCR? No need for analog video support.

Does the Pioneer have the feature Bass boost for the subs? I had that on an older Pioneer Elite model VSX 94TXH and to this day I have never heard my subs sound so good.. now i have 3 subs and they are all dialed in for music and movies with a Marantz sr 6011 and it just does not create the same effect as the Pioneer I had and was using 2 subs at the time. You would have to have heard it to know what I am talking about and when I bought the Marantz thats the first thing i noticed was that the Pioneer did the bass better with bass boost option in the set up menu when it asks you how many subs yes or no So when i bought a newer sub that had more power and would go down lower it still didnt reproduce the sub sonic bass i was hearing Almost tempted to go back to Pioneer but i dont know if they still offer that feature on their newer A/V receivers Does anybody know? Thanks

My 4700 is so damn buggy. 4k fire stick won’t work right in avr fine when plugged in tv. Clicks when changing channels on Xfinity tv when hooked in avr. Threw in blu ray last night and wouldn’t switch out of stereo mode and wasn’t even putting out signal to the svs bass(red light). Love hate relationship

Lifehack to those of you still using a Cable Box…don’t!!! Just get an Apple TV and sign into your Cable provider app. It turns the Apple TV into your cable box! The interface is cleaner, higher resolution and much faster. The quality of the stream vs your cable box is also much nicer and all of the content will look better out of the Apple TV. You can also do this with any steaming stick or box but the Apple TV is just the best hands down.
