As one of Shellac's longest standing fans/friends*, a woman AND a computer programmer, I'm not sure how to interpret the opening statement. *yes, my name is on that record.
and the song labelled "Fire" is actually titled "The Guy Who Invented Fire", MTV probably didn't have a complete setlist. Great scene, thanks for sharing this.
MTV used to have a show about music? Freaking weird. Perhaps I'll write a telegraph about it...or have the news delivered via pony express. Those Shellac boys...they're the next hot thing.
I was at this gig. Pretty good (although I preferred them at the Phoenix festival). I think this interview was conducted by Paul King from the band King, as I remember he was hanging around the foyer doors interviewing 'the kids' (he was an MTV veejay by then). Typical 90s editing, i.e. insanely annoying and kind of disrespectful to the subject.
i like how they positioned the drummer up front rather than hiding behind the others.
Someone had a field day in the editing room
late 90's/early 2000's: when seizures were "in"
thank GOD this type of editing is out of style in mainstream television media today. the late 90’s-00’s was a circus
Bob mentioning Mission of Burma and Slint, all the while sporting a Shiner shirt. Awesome.
He was in Mission of Burma!
R.I.P Steve Albini 🧡

I was at this gig. Only time I’ve ever seen Shellac play live. God I feel old watching this!
The Clapham Grand?
@@mikesilva5085 Correct, March 1995 I believe.
Shellac are fucking awesome.
It was the 90's it was always really ADD like that on MTV.

And "Watch Song" was labelled "Prank"
Mission of Burma -Vs/Dinosaur Jr-You're Living All Over Me/Slint-Spiderland.

Young Bob Weston is identical to the guy who played Ted Mosby.
Hes also the Office Space guy too!
The MTV editing is exhausting. I probably thought it looked cool at the time but I was also 25 years old, so...
RIP Albini.
Is Steve wearing a calculator watch?
He was when I saw them last October. They also joked about him having a "tube" (Nixie) watch.
@xyling No, it is "Crow", not "Wingwalker"... I like how they forgot (I suppose) to edit out the "fuck"s in "A Minute".

@hatemachine777 Adds to the mystique.
how the fuck did they got on mtv
MTV still had balls then.
@ValasVixson Or "Crow" for that matter...it's "Wingwalker". MTV was just making it up as they went along.
no, that was crow
"Pranks"? The song is My Black Ass. MTV is so weak for changing that, and in general
@appelstr00p i can't be sure but i'm almost positive he says "how could you" not "fuck the jew" or w/e it sounds like
the editing is pretty weird
calculator watch!
