Finally! A podcast that actually talks about all/most of the teams. I was starting to think there was only one team in the tournament. Dark horses. At the current odds then I'd say Hungary, Austria and Croatia (I know they are considered a good side but they are 40/1 and have very good recent tournament results) are value bets. Of the top sides, I think Portugal are slightly undervalued. I'd put them among the group right after France rather than in the group behind as they currently are (they are 5th favourites in some places, I think they deserve to be joint 2nd favourites). They should fly through the groups, have goalscorers and attacking players to match anyone, and have a good backline too. They also have recent experience of winning. I don't see a weakness there other than the possibility of their big players and egos not getting along (but that seems unlikely as they've played together for years now).
In the match against Poland, Ukraine played a lot of non-main players, the second choice defenders and the third goalkeeper. They will not get much time, unless there is an injury to one of the starting player
I believe the expression "Dark Horse" first began to be used outside horse racing for an unexpected winner in the 1844 election of American president James K Polk, the "Napoleon of the Stump." Famously, James Horncastle is named in his memory.
Well done to you on giving up the Ale, it will be hard, I would find it difficult myself as now retired and wouldn’t see friends if not visiting the local
Tim and Duncan ridiculously downbeat on England’s prospects, apparently on the basis of one bad result in a friendly. This is the same team is that is currently the bookies’ favourites and (outrageously) has the player of the year in arguably the three top leagues in the world. Yes, the defence is a concern, but *every* team has imperfections. (Walker and Stones are amongst very best in their positions, it can’t be *so* bad!). Endlessly fascinating to me to see how our journalists (and many fans) are so achingly ready to throw cold water on England’s chances. If any other nation had the players at our disposal they’d be thinking only about winning it.
Just out of interest, have your thoughts changed much since that opening game? I have lost faith in Foden personally. His performances for England in the warm up games do not seem like a blip
Broja was injured and didnt play in qualifier , but he scored against lichtenstein, sweden was offsude and also sidnt give him a penalty, but he had a great showing. Also we scored most goals from 20-25 meters , so expect bangers, our player can score from anywhere
Our best form of defence imo is retention of the ball BUT with the best and most tested players at the highest level possible, who'll know when to throw a punch. I think its completely different being a player in a team where you're the chased not the chaser, ie Grealish playing for city and bringing assisters into play around dangerous areas. There's the factor of the likes of Bellingham, Kane & Foden feeling like they have similar football brains around them, I'd include Maddison in this too. Their performance could be substantially compromised in their absence not receiving warm and comfy lay offs. I'd have taken Rashford instead of Gordon at this point, simply things like the cross field pass to gargnashers in fa cup final for 2nd goal, not just head down pace. With the best recovery Rb in the world in Walker and 2 other quick half decent defenders we could've had a good chance. The debatably off form players minimum is higher than the inexperienced on form players maximum. (I'd have brought on Rashford & Bowen 2nd half BTW.) (Rant over, I apologise 😅)
personally, i think Turkey are this years dark horses. montella has put together a good team with a strong spine with a good blend of experienced pros & highly talented youngsters, they are going to be very tough to beat i think
@@DrZaius3141 1) friendly games do not count for anything. this is like saying that england should not be 1 of the tournament favorites anymore because they lose to little iceland last week 2) turkey did not play many of their best players in that game
I've been supporting France since the early 80s and I'm shocked that they are many people's favourites alongside England for Euro 2024. With the exception of William Saliba, none of our defenders are in top form right now. Didier Deschamps doesn't have faith in his midfield so he's invited N'Golo Kante back into the squad. Up front, Les Bleus are heavily dependent on Mbappe. If he doesn't bring his A game to the tournament, I'm not sure where the goals are going to come from. You heard it first folks. France is going to have a very disappointing Euro 2024! ☹
Can we get a Copa America preview please. Everyone's obsessed with the Euro's and covering the same ground. I can't watch some american talking about soccer and take it seriously.... Thumbs up if you agree!
The most serious loss in the Austrian team would be Xaver Schlager, I'd rate him missing quite above Alaba, because he's the personified RB-Rangnick Style midfild engine and in top form before the injury.
@@aldozilli1293 Yes of course, but as he is already out for so long, the Team had a lot of time to adjust to him missing playing all matches in 24 without him, whilst Schlager hurt himself only recently and is a key player in the offensive midfield.
English media will hype their players to Balon D’or talks (Foden, Kane, Bellingham, Saka, Trent, Rice etc etc) But when it comes to international tournaments, 🫵🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🫵

Kirean Tierney, early in the game, celebrating winning a goal kick like Scotland had just won the tournament. What passion!
