This is 33 yrs old and I'm just now seeing it. Absolutely blown away by their performance. These guys are older than I am and I'm pushing 80. Chances are some or most are now dead. So sad. This was music of my early years and in my mind will never be topped or equaled. Don't know what they were paid for this performance but it wasn't enough!
So enjoying this on a beautiful Sunday afternoon here in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. (9/24/23). I will turn 75 soon. (Can’t believe it!). Oh, the memories!!
I remember BIG MAN from 1958 when I WAS 8!!!!! Like others, I'm seeing this for the first time. I always loved the way the piano player banged out those chords in between the verses!! It reminds me of taking piano lessons back then when I was a kid!. Now I'm 73. The other day I figured out a reasonable facsimile of those chords and banged out that riff on a church piano. I heard giggling, turned around, and saw a half dozen little kids, aged 6-11, DANCING!!!!
I saw these guys around this same time (1989) in Charlotte N.C. They were freaking awesome. They got a standing ovation for about ten minutes. It blew them away. They were beside themselves at the appreciation they got. Truly a memorable night.
Back in the day, I loved The Greatest Surfer Couple. Only problem is that we, in Salt Lake City, thought it was a true story. We were all heartbroken about such a lovely pair meeting such a fateful death.
This performance presents so much talent and professionalism. The vocal harmony, dynamics and delivery are great. The musicians really earn their pay and obviously enjoy working with Jim, Bruce, David, and Ed.
What a performance! I know many of them are gone. But I would like to thank them for the immense pleasure they still provide and for a long time! I'm French and here they are not known but I love "The Diamonds", Dave Somerville of course, "The Four Preps" and "The Four Lads". Thank you to these talented singers. Amitiés de France.

Bruce Belland went to the same church, I did [in the 50's]. Though, much older than I. We both attended Hollywood HS. He probably graduated in S' of 1955. Then attended UCLA. Friends of Ricky Nelson, who also went to HHS and Bancroft Jr. HS. Ricky's name was in an old music text book. Our Music Teacher, Mr. Hagedorn...showed it, to us. Bancroft is still there. Just sharing some 'tid bits', here. Lot's of great talent, in those day's. "The Four Preps" also sang and Bruce played a sax, in the origional movie, "Gidget", with Sandra Dee and James Darren. About 1958 or '59.
I had an opportunity to see them in concert at the Puyallup fair back in 1980-something! I am 60 now. I love what I call simpler music before all of the electronics and digitally programmed music. Raw live sound!
4 of the greatest voices ever compiled in any singing group. So proud to have known them and to have their influence on my families life. Simply the best group of singers and gentlemen.
So sad three of the guys are gone Jim Pike, David Summerville, Ed Cobb, which leaves only 1 original member for the Four Preps( Bruce Belland on stage here), the Lettermen and the Diamonds. Thank God we have their records, TV clips, videos and shows like these. God bless them all and whoever uploaded this.
These guys are no less than INCREDIBLE! Just WOW! YEARS of experience (and a lot of talent) truly shows how professional they are and each one of them STILL "has it" and together, here they are on top once again! Superb!
Big Man yesterday wow I was 9 when that came out loved hearing the song being played on the radio would request this when I could, these men could have been the beachboys such great harmonies
Absolutely sublime!!! Wish I was back 40 or more years ago (with this video, at least). Listening to so much talent, gallantry and class, as it were.... oh yes !! Four gentleman having a wonderful time doing what they do best; singing perfect sounding 4 part harmony. I personally adored "The Diamonds" for quite some time, and found myself in a deep chagrin at loosing David Somerville. A very charismatic, wonderful singer with a huge vocal range. Not to mention his amazing falsetto ability. P.S. He also wrote the theme song of the ABC series "The Fall Guy", in the 80's....... Hate to say, but doubt very much I will ever find these kind of raw and wonderful talents ever again. Sigh..... ty so very much for posting this. I have saved in my favorite. Bless you !
Your truly fantastic voice and great performances it reminds me out happy and sad memories when your still alive now you're gone I can't forget those dying songs that made me smile and thinking of you just I know I will love you forever goodbye mahal
Jerry Reuss Hey Jerry, Long time no see !! For you folks who don't know, Jerry was a major league baseball pitcher and while he was with the Dodgers, Jim Pike and myself as the Lettermen sang the National Anthem before a couple of games. Hey Jerry, where you calling home now ? I know back then you had a home in Anaheim Hills, I think it was.. Jerry was a left hander with the biggest slider I ever saw...
Gary Pike Always good to hear from you! Living in Las Vegas for the last 20+ years...broadcasting games for the Las Vegas 51's on occasion...still waiting for the long-overdue box set of Lettermen albums that you were a big part of...Hope our paths cross again sooner than later! Jerry
Jerry Reuss We have to connect so I can get your address away from this public format. I'm not sure how to do it. Anyway I can get you some CD's of the best albums with the hits on them as soon as I can get an address without showing the whole world..

All had terrific groups Mr. Summerville, Mr. Pike and Mr Cobb are now, sadly, gone leaving only one living original member each of the Diamonds and the Lettermen and the Four Preps. Thank God for technology that let us enjoy them still during their hey days. God Bless them all, and whoever uploaded this .
My friend you are misinformed. Tony sang in a Lettermen group put together by a fella named Mike Barnett for a review call the Newcomers of 29 which was cast by his wife. That Lettermen which Jim Pike never sang in by the way. After that Lettermen broke up Jim and Tony met in a group called Bill Norvis and the Upstarts. When that group dissolved Jim invited Tony to join him and Bob Engemann and they picked the Lettermen name to use. The first Lettermen group was really irrelevant to the famous Lettermen that had the hits. When Bob Engemann left the group in 1967 Jim asked me to tke his place..
I was enjoying this up to 8:57. "And I'm so glad I'm alive?" Huh? Wrong lyrics. It's as if someone took the arm and scraped the needle across the record. Those of you who remember vinyl understand the metaphor. This "new" lyric smacked of political correctness, and I've had my fill of that BS.
Yes, I was going to write the same thing. What's so terrible about "thank God I'm alive". I'll bet Frankie Valli didn't change it in concerts. You are right. Just BS.
OMG! At 74 years old I am a life long fan of all these groups. It's 12:10am and I just found this you tube video. My new all time favorite.

The vocal harmony, dynamics and delivery are great.
The musicians really earn their pay and obviously enjoy working with Jim, Bruce, David, and Ed.

Really enjoyed this. You can tell they were having a great time.
Great job Patrick! Love all your Lettermen Clips! Hope all is well your way ---
Solo puedo decir fabuloso!!
Theres nothing more fun than close four part harmony, especially if you get to be the tenor…
Pa😊trick Fullerton. ManyThanks
Jim was a co-founder and co-lead singer of The Lettermen.
Wow, they sang with much gusto! Jim Pike, one of my fave crooners, just passed away last month. Sad. I wonder if the Preps members are still around.
Bruce Belland is the only one left!
Wow!
The sound that inspired Brian Wilson.
Lindo. Lindo. Lindoooo
nice

Tony Butala formed the original Lettermen group. Jim Pike came shortly thereafter.
My friend you are misinformed. Tony sang in a Lettermen group put together by a fella named Mike Barnett for a review call the Newcomers of 29 which was cast by his wife. I have this by. Judy. Garland
As a small boy I loved Big Man being quite naive about the lyrics.
Recorded at an IBM Hundred Percent Club
Shangrila
its a well known fact: tenors are crazy…
