A lot of people don't get why Gus knew there was a bomb on his car. It was because Jessie told him Brock was poisoned and Gus knew it wasn't him or Jessie. So Gus realised Walter must have done it with the purpose of drawing him to the hospital.
Damn that was always a blind spot for and i was kind of ok with the 6th sense theory but i gotta say : You're god damn right !
@@NaouasT Dont forget, Gus was smart.
Thats exactly how Gus knew thx for sharing for any confused fan
Walter didn't kill Gus because it was very difficult to get close to him, a more brilliant and intelligent way was poisoning Brock and making Jesse think it was Gus. That way Jesse wouldn't make a drug, Gus would have to come talk to him, and this would be the perfect time to plant a bomb. The idea goes wrong, but Walter manages to do it again with the help of Hector Salamanca. It's great how Walter managed to subvert the whole situation and bring all the control in his favor, Walter hit where Gus was wrong, so much so that when Gus sees that Hector is looking at him, he realizes that something wrong is happening but it's gone too late and... BOOM!
@@Gabriel-jd1bk Gus let his emotions get the best of him for once rather than the professional approach he had all his life. It cost him his life

At the end of season 4, all of us had wondered... "how can this show possibly get better than this?".
Surprisingly, it does.
Ikr i thought s5 will be ehh after the s4 crazyness but it gets crazier😜
You goddamn right!
Debatable... show's not the same without Gus (among other things)
Arguably the best series from start to finish. No drop off in quality but a ramp up.
@@FEARNoMore that is debatable. I think the first half of season 5 is a bumper, a slight decrease in quality. Second half is top notch though. Landing a series finale is never easy, as many bad endings prove, but BB nailed it.
The shot of Walter's gun dropping on the floor of the lab mirror the shot of Gus's bloody boxcutter dropping on the same floor at the start of the season, symbolizing that walt has now became/replaced Gus.
Terrific observation!
I watched so many rectors and rewatched the show so many times. The fact that I keep discovering new things shows how amazing this show was.
@@spackle9999 Yeah, someone mentioned the other week about how when the Don was killed by Gus and how he fell into the pool, echoed the pink bear plummeting into Walt's pool; it shows just how taut the writing for this show was. I see something new on each view of this masterpiece of a series.

Fun fact: Gus adjusting his tie was the actor's idea, he figured that since Gus is a very professional and business-minded man, the last thing on his mind would be to look sharp on his way out.
Preparing to meet the devil in style
Gus just need to make sure his neck tie was neat and straight...before he dropped dead. That was sooo Gustavo 💀
Maybe the most villain death ever.

Same with Micah in rdr2.
@@nlrenzo9432 The actor who played Gus said he walked and make sure his tie was straight because he is a beast, he is focus on his objective.

Walt technically wasn't lying, Jessy was accusing him of poisoning Brock with the Ricin. This little distinction makes it a lot easier for a sociopath like Walt to keep his story
actually walt doesnt have sociopathic tendancies or is he a sociopath. the literal writer confirmed lokk it up. walt is doing what people in gangs and the streets do, hes numbing himself getting himself used to and prepred for these situations, just show how far a dying man will go fir the things he needs
Not a sociopath, more of a narcissist. He does have a conscience.
Season five proves that he isnt a sociopath I hope you understand for what episode and what scene or better say scenes I am talking about.
His not a sociopath sure the things he does can be sociopathic but if killing someone is sociopathic than all soldiers are and if lying is sociopathic than almost everyone is a sociopathic but Walt isn't and to be honest I don't think his even a bad guy although I liked Gus
Saul is a sociopath, Walt's a narcissist.
09:32 He was trying to say: "Need Dean Norris"
😂
How fitting that the first three letters are Dean Norris.
I love how every single viewer feels personally betrayed when they see the name-tag on that plant XD
I didn't even catch it first time because i was orgasming with that finale
that was pretty obvious, you can tell when he is lieing, actors in this show are so great
I remember watching this and thinking 'Well where do they go from here?"
Gus is dead, Hank & the DEA have their suspicions about Gus confirmed, the lab is destroyed so Walt is in the clear now right?
Where does season 5 go from here? I just couldn't see where it goes from here. But boy oh boy was I wrong LOL!
Season 5 is incredible.
Me too, but walts pride kept it going
@@benstevens2 just like we saw before when Walter got drunk off of wine he just can’t let it go. He needs to satisfaction of people knowing how he truly is.

Gus dying and the lab being torched answered all questions but one - Who is Heisenberg?
Same, man. Gus was the final boss. And Walt just defeated him. How can it go on? Vravo Bince!
Season 5 is the greatest thing ever created on TV
You are in for a fkin treat !
Their reaction is gonna be heavy breathing
Oh boy they're going to need a lot of tissues for that
Twin Peaks The Return is better, but then again it's written, directed, sound directed from start to finish by David Lynch, who is the best director alive since Kubrick died in 1999. Though for the majority that story is absolute mess, and impossible to understand.
Breaking Bad season 5 comes after that for sure. Though Twin Peaks season 1 wins if we take into account when it was made, or how influential it was.
Nobody should watch Twin Peaks the Return before watching the original two seasons. And then I would suggest watching Twin Peaks Fire Walk with Me, and every other David Lynch film and even art piece. Only then you should watch the Return for the last. And watch it in darkened room, on hopefully big OLED TV but most importantly with the best headphones you can afford. These directions come from the David Lynch himself, and I didn't follow them in the first viewing, but on my 2nd viewing I did and it truly changed the whole experience. Nowhere is the sound design so important.
Don't phuck up the best TV experience ever, follow these instructions religiously and you will thank yourself for listening to me. The Return must be watched multiple times, just like Kubrick films, and it really gets better and better. Though only if you know Lynch's whole career, and especially Twin Peaks 1 & 2 and the film.
@@juzujuzu4555 it's not dude, it's honestly no where near BB. Stop over exaggerating. It's just decent, nothing more than that, please.
Totally agree. BB is arguably the best series from start to finish. No drop off in quality but a ramp up.
@Lola what you're saying at 34:34 and onwards made me look up this Hitchcock quote i read years ago: "There is no terror in the bang, only in the anticipation of it." I think it just matches perfectly with what you are describing
The conflict between Jesse and Walter throughout this season was to prepare for the grand climax of them working together to take down Gus. What a genius writing.

After watching better call Saul you realize how much of a tragedy this episode is.
No. Gus is the worst
Agreed.
The lab :(
True in hindsight Walter just came in and ruined everything
@@ragnarlothbrok936 That's why it's great. He came in slowly from nothing and ruined so many lives through different domino effects. It's amazing.
24:45 Gus didn't go to his car because after leaving Jesse, he probably started thinking about what Jesse had told him and thought that the fact that the kid was poisoned at that precise moment when Walter was scared and hiding from Gus was a very strange coincidence, and also that Jesse kind of forced Gus to go to the hospital to talk to him because he refused to talk to any of his men. He realized it was likely some sort of plan to get him there and kill him. Notice that after Jesse was released by the police, Gus' men kidnapped him and forced him to go to the lab, and then they handcuffed him, which is weird given that the prior interaction he had with Gus was good. That is probably because Gus suspected Jesse was collaborating with Walter.
When we watch the episode for the first time, it does look like Gus has a sixth sense. But that is only because at that point we think Gus poisoned the kid so, as far as we know, he has no reason to suspect anything. Once you know he didn't do it, it makes sense that Gus would figure it out.
25:16 The name of the episode is "face off" :)
25:32 If I remember correctly it was the actor who plays Gus the one who came up with the idea. I think the writers asked him what he thought Gus would do at that moment, kind of unthinkingly, as a reflex. And he said that Gus would probably adjust himself.
28:15 How would Walter know where to attack Gus then? Walter knew that Jesse had more information about Gus that him. So he needed to make Jesse so angry that he would want to kill Gus and therefore tell Walter what he knew. And the only thing that has gotten Jesse that angry in the past has been people hurting kids.
37:26 A lot of people mention the inconsistency in the ability of Walter as a liar, and it is a fair point. Although I think there is a possible explanation. Most lies we see Walter tell in the past have been to hide his business from his family in order mantain good relationships with them, they were a personal matter. And as we know Walter hasn't been cynical about his family so far. In situations like we see in this episode, though, it is a business matter. It is part of the game (36:41), which makes Walter behave very differently. He can be much colder. Remember how Walter behaved when he was begging Saul to call the DEA to save Hank, and how cold he was when he shot those two men at the lab. You would think it wasn't the same person. In fact we see Walter lie very well at the end of the Better Call Saul episode of the second season, he lies to Hank to save their plan and he does it very well, because it is business.
By the way listen to the lyrics of the song at the end of the episode, both the lyrics and the tone are very appropiate.
Great reaction!
BINGO! When Jesse told Gus that the boy wasn't sick, that he was poisoned, Gus' reaction said it all. I knew automatically that he was thinking about Walt.
@@Tusc9969 it makes sense that Gus would figure it out especially after that desert interaction where Gus told Walter I will let you go (fired) if you never see or speak to Jesse again and Walter basically told him fuck off that ain’t ever happening (or else you’ll do what). Once Gus told Walter he was pretty much going to kill Hank to resolve that problem he always knew Walter would find a way to reach out to Jesse. Even if he wasn’t 100% sure that’s the truth he takes too much precaution to let Jesse walk free after coming out a police precinct lol. For all he knows Tio is talking to the DEA and Jesse is talking to detectives.
As far as Walt's inconsistent skill as a liar there's a very simple pattern as far as I can tell at least. He's an excellent liar whenever he's had the opportunity to prepare. He's a terrible liar whenever he has to improvise on the fly.
I have watched an embarrassing number of reactions to this show, and think you two have just provided the best reaction to this episode. Both your emotional and logical discussions were very on point. Thanks and keep up the good work.

What gun are you talking about?
@@hawkman8706 It's when Walt is sitting at the table in his backyard and keeps spinning the gun (it's a snub nose revolver) and it keeps pointing at him. The 4th time he spins it, the gun 👉 at a plant called "Lilly of the Valley", which is the one Walt uses to poison Brock. Walt originally buys the revolver to use against Gus. The episode where Walt buy the gun is called "Thirty Eight Snub".

18:10 Walt dropped the gun on the floor similar to when Gus dropped the box cutter.
Season 4 Episode 1: Killing Victor and then dropping the box cutter was Gus' checkmate, after Walt ordered the murder of Gale. Walt was now a dead man walking.
Season 4 Episode 13: After a season long chess match, Walt uses the hatred of Gus and Hector to save himself and his family, and lures out Gus to get him killed. Walt drops the gun on the floor after his success of destroying Gus' drug empire.
Checkmate.

Lily of the Valley are lethal and poisonous as well, it wasn't just fever. That child was in the ICU and Jesse mentions that "it looked touch and go for a while" meaning he almost died because of Walter. So yes, it is as bad because Walter risked a child's life so MAYBE he could manipulate Jesse to help him (a truly unnecessarily complicated plan in my opinion). That last shot of the episode is so great tho, one of the biggest twist of all time!
I mean, someone like Walt knows exactly how much to give a kid of that weight you make sure he survives
@@derekfurst6233 he still put a child in the hospital for his own personal gain.
@@derekfurst6233 I don't think so.
When Walt says "thank god" after Jesse told him that Brock is going to survive, he genuinely was relieved that he was fine. Walt didn't know if Brock would make it, poisoning him was a desperation move.
If Walt wasn't going insane that his family could be murdered, he probably would've thought more rationally and wouldn't have poisoned him at all.
@@endubless I'm not defending Walt, but that definitely was not for personal gain. He does a lot of things for selfish reasons, but not this. Did you not watch Crawl Space, let alone this episode? His family is going to be murdered, and he sees hitmen walking around his house.
Poisoning Brock was a very drastic and reckless action to save his family.
@@Jeremy-jm3fe it was for personal gain to get Jesse on his side, poisoning a child to get someone to hate someone else and get them on your side is personal gain and crosses the line. Walt let Jane die to get Jesse back with him in turn, his own personal gain. He tells himself it for his family at the start which is true but it just turns into an ego thing, dude just keeps manipulating everyone for his selfish ego which is why it’s called breaking bad.
I just realized, if Walt hadn't replaced the water heater and repaired the flooring in that closet some seasons back, the hit men would have been clearly able to see the hatch he used to escape.
i have nothing in particular to add but i just want to say i thoroughly enjoyed your reaction to this one, ladies. as you already know being four ahead, season five is fucking crazy and i wish you luck.

The human body can act on auto pilot even after certain trauma to the brain. Gus was dying already but as his brain was burning out it behaved its last surviving motor functions.
There was a case of a man being murdered with an axe to the head but even with that trauma his brain had him get out of bed to get the paper and even start making breakfast before finally collapsing.

This episode cemented this show as the greatest of all time
You’re Goddamn right!
I know everyone’s hyping up season 5 and yeah it’s absolute top tier TV but honestly season 4 is the best season of Breaking Bad in my opinion.
I can't decide.
I found S4: excitingly cooler, more fun, more complexly written, more enjoyable, inducing more smiles/goosebumps, and more akin to a master chess-match.
I found S5: depressingly darker, more intense, better directed, more satisfying, inducing more tears/shock, and more akin to complete radioactive decay.
Agreed. It was never better balanced, paced and written than it was in this season, and I say that as someone who thought season 5 was fantastic, but season 4 is the pinnacle for me
You were wondering why Walter used Brook instead of the girl: you're right in saying Jesse would have been just as upset if the one poisoned was Andrea, but using the kid instead made it a lot easier for Walt to convince Jesse that Gus was behind it and not him, since Gus's men already killed a kid (Andrea's little brother) probably following his orders, while Walter never hurt a kid before.
And in fact he says something like "who else do we know that is fine with murdering a kid?" to Jesse because he wants him to remember Gus already did it and come to the most obvious conclusion that between Gus and Walt it must be Gus the only one capable of doing something like that.
Also yes, Walt basically does all the work to kill Gus himself, but Jesse is still the key because he gives him the one information based on what Walt can build his whole plan on: without him he probably would have been killed by Gus men before being able to find another plan.
Gus, pretty much dead, half his face is gone, yet still straightens his tie... One of the most shocking scenes in TV history.
*Gets recommended a reaction vid from some random channel but reads "Breaking Bad 4X13"*
Me: Wait...Isn't that "Face Off"? Oh, they don't even know... I gotta see their faces after seeing THE face lol
Bro, the episode before this Walt is freaking out and suddenly looks directly to the Lily of the valley, bro.
6:22 Becky the neighbor is actually Vince Gilligan's mother.
Walt's reaction when Jesse told him that Brock will be fine seems so sincere that makes me believe that Walt expecting the kid to die. Walt not only poisoned Brock, he tried to kill him
If he tried to kill him, why didn't he give him a ricin?
If he tried to kill him, why he was so happy that Brock was ok?
I don't believe Walt was trying to kill Brock, but there was a chance that Brock could die from it, huge risk. Walt took that risk in order to manipulate Jesse into helping him, and was relieved that he didn't unintentionally kill the boy. None of that excuses his actions though, still morally reprehensible behavior.
@@jmwild1 yeah that is what I was trying to say, I should have worded it better
It was sincere because Walter didn’t want the boy to die but wasn’t 100% sure if the dose he gave the kid was going to be fatal. In other words it was more of “if he dies, he dies” - Ivan Drago the moment he poisoned Brock and then a “thank god I don’t have more shit on my conscience” when Jesse said he was going to pull through.
Probably my favorite ending out of all the episodes.

It's so funny, that people LOVE Sandor Clegane, nicknamed the Hound, from Game of Thrones, who KILLED INNOCENT CHILD in second episode of the show.(yes KILLED, not just risked his life). Many-many reactors were crying when such a piece of work like Sandor Clegane died)
Most of the people followed Theon Greyjoy's redemption after HE KILLED TWO INNOCENT KIDS. Most of the people cried when he died.
Most of the people LOVED Jaime Lannister, who INTENTIONALLY TRIED TO KILL A KID.
But when Walter risked kid's life to save his entire family from being killed (and there was no other option, Walter didn't have money to leave when he accepted defeat in Crawl Space), Walter is the worst and the most unredeemable villian🤷🏼♂️
Such a double standards🤦🏼♂️😂🤣
PS

He also needed Jesse to be on his side because Jesse was already hesitant to kill Gus in his eyes (but we know as the viewer he never really had an opportunity). From Walter's perspective, Jesse was always leaving their work and going with Mike or Gus to do things, keeping secrets, and making excuses for why he hadn't killed Gus already; Walt wanted to be certain that Jesse was undoubtedly on his side. Not saying what Walt did is ok lol that's just the reasoning behind why he wanted to get Jesse on his side.

It's damn close. Season 4 is my personal favorite overall, but season 5 has the best moments
@@dmidkif I totally agree with you
Your collective jaw drop is perfect. Bravo, ladies. Thanks for taking me back!
Buckle up for season 5 ladies 🙌
9:07 Listen in the background to the bingo announcer... sounds like a bit of a prequel easter egg for BCS.
Your silence at the end said it all.
16:20 hector's grief and loss, becoming emotional torment, transforming into hatred, then shifting to rage, and finally settling on acceptance and satisfaction was brilliant, epic, world-class acting. it was performed by a masterful actor and it etched deep tension onto your faces. then at 16:31 when you saw the bomb and understood what was happening was only topped by your stunned shock, horror, and silence at 16:33 when the bomb exploded.
but then... your complete disbelief at 16:45 as gustavo calmly walked out the door, while straightening his tie without a scratch. i smiled because i knew what was coming. but then, as the camera panned around gustavo to show the actual devastation to his body, your visceral response... it was absolutely this is what i was waiting for.
(at least until that final reveal at 22:04.)
When you realise you been rooting the villain the whole time
Next season is nuts! You two are in for a ride.

This is hands down one of the best reaction moments on the internet.
You are both so awesome lol
appreciate ya! ❤
Something that many didn't realize was that Mr. Walt's plan to take some kind of compromising information about Uncle Salamanca to DEA was nothing more than a bait to attract Gus to the Asylum of Uncle Salamanca to take satisfaction with him, and there to find your death.
Walter poisoned Brock with the flower.
This episode earned Vince Gilligan and Michael Slovis Emmy nominations for directing and cinematography. They lost to Timothy Van Patten and Jonathan Freeman, both from Boardwalk Empire. The sound mixers were also nominated for this very episode but lost to GOT; also nominated were the Special Effects team, but they lost to, again, Boardwalk Empire; last but certainly not least, Skip Macdonald was nominated for Editing, but lost to the Homeland team (Jordan Goldman & David Latham).
Watching you watch it for the first time lets me watch it for “the first time” again. Thanks!
To be honest, I like Gus's character but when he threatened Walt's kids he was marked for death rightfully so.
The Lily of the Valley plot twist must be one of TV's most impressing! They didn't only make us believe that Gus poisoned Brock, they even made us believe that Brock was poisoned by mistake. And in the end Heisenberg has no chill!
I sadly had already been spoiled that ot was Walt who poisoned Brock, but because of how great Breaking bad is, it still wasn't ruined for me
14:39 it wasnt ricin
It was rice and beans
