Particularly when he is playing with his band The Big Push all of whom are brilliant musicians and singers.

"Crutch" dates back to a time when Ren thought he wouldn't live much longer. Bibi launched an appeal for donations for his treatment/diagnosis. If I understood correctly, it was the basis for his Lyme disease diagnosis in Brussels.
If I remember correctly, the fund raiser was to pay for stem cell treatment. It helped get him out of the worst part of his illness, but his current treatment seems to be improving his health more. Hopefully back to enough normalcy to be able to perform.

This was a great reaction. The usual take-away is that is is a song about how the wrong medication prescribed by doctors can make you feel numb and like you are floating in a Chalk outline. This song is about medication given for depression. Her first sung words are 'Setriline and a sip of Serotonin' which are depression meds. Ren is talking about how these drugs just leave you feeling like the dead walking, hence the 'chalk outlines'. It talks about how instead of helping him, they just numbed his being. this song reminds me of me as a little kid getting drugged down by retalin cause i have adhd. i didnt feel anything when i took them so i avoided it. i know his story is not the same but for me thats my connection to this song.
Ren is famous for doing live one take video clips and finding rooms, hallways and streets that make the sound lifted to a new level. A perfect example of his talents is "Story of Jenny and Screech trilogy" three one take videos that must be watched back to back. You will not be disappointed.
The feeling when you are on medication for me personally is exactly as he describes it here, you feel like a floating chalk outline trying to find your way back to who you used to be, because when you are on the meds, you never feel like yourself and you are not. So the symbolism is that you basically feel like a walking corpse while your soul is off somewhere else and you can't find or trace it back again. While everyone around you just says just take some pills and you'll be fine, which, if you live with a lifelong severe depression like i am, never will be. This song always get's to me because it hits so close to home, just like Hi Ren did.

This song is my favourite of my favourites from Ren - it was the 2nd song I heard by him and I was blown away and hooked forever. Ren & Chinchilla are just beautiful together in the emotion they flood out. If you loved this then "How to be Me" (Live) is a Must Watch with them - a song Ren wrote about his best friend Joe who threw himself off a bridge aged just 19 and hurts Ren deeply still to this day but is also one of th reasons Ren's felt he strength to carry on with his life no matter how much he was suffering

It's about medications that make you feel okay, but just for a short time; pills are chalky, and they don't last for very long with folks on anti-depressants/ anti-psychotics. So when he says, "I'm still here in this bed that I crawled in; I hope that I'm someone else in the morning", and, "I'm scared of being okay, 'cause all things change" he's talking about personality/mood changes that accompany his treatments. I feel like when he & Chinchilla met, they were like "Hey, I know you!" because they're on the same wavelength (although, in this video, I always worry about Chinchilla's nails Wolverine-ing Ren.)

Chalk Outlines the feeling you get when you disassociate your emotional self from reality through the use of prescribed medications... I don't feel this song is a "proper" duet, it's more like 2 ghost's singing the same song in a corridor they haunt, Chinchilla's voice hauntingly echoing Ren's as they go through the pain of being chalk outlines.. A "proper" duet between them is the "Live" version of "How to be Me" sung between them on the bridge where Ren's friend Joe unalived himself, it is a beautiful song in tribute to Joe's memory.
Great comment, but it's not true about the location of the How to be me video, that was done on a rooftop (either London or Brighton I expect). The bridge where Joe took his life is in North Wales.

This song is my favourite of my favourites from Ren - it was the 2nd song I heard by him and I was blown away and hooked forever. Ren & Chinchilla are just beautiful together in the emotion they flood out. If you loved this then "How to be Me" (Live) is a Must Watch with them - a song Ren wrote about his best friend Joe who threw himself off a bridge aged just 19 and hurts Ren deeply still to this day but is also one of th reasons Ren's felt he strength to carry on with his life no matter how much he was suffering

I have a tip for you, and I mean this in the most helpful and courteous way only, not trying to talk down to you or mansplain things, this is just because you stated you were bad with computers and editing, if u know this already, please disregard.
If you are using a laptop/pc using windows, once you have the video pulled up and are ready to play it, this shortcut cheat sheet should really make things easier for you.......
First, place the mouse pointer anywhere above the red progress bar that is near the bottom of the screen, but still within the frame of the video and double click quickly, this will automatically make the video full screen (doing so again reduces the screen). Leave the mouse where it is and don't touch, after three seconds, progress bar, control buttons and mouse pointer will disappear and the screen will go to regular brightness. During playback of the video there is no need to touch the mouse as long as your laptop/pc has a functioning keyboard..........
Space Bar ▬ or K - Tap Once = toggle Play/Pause
Space Bar ▬ - Hold Down = Video Plays 2X Speed
K - Hold Down = Video Plays 1/2X Speed (Slow Motion)
◄ or ► (left/right arrows) - Tap Once = Rewind or Fast Forward Video 5 Seconds
J or L - Tap Once = Rewind or Fast Forward Video 10 Seconds (J = rewind, L = fast fwrd)
◄ (left arrow) or J - Hold Down = Super Fast Rewind
► (right arrow) or L - Hold Down = Super Fast Forward
▼ or ▲ (up/down arrows) - Tap Once = Volume Down or Volume Up
Comma key (,) - Tap Once When Video Is Paused = rewind video by a single frame

+ / - (plus/minus keys when subtitles are on, main keyboard by "backspace" key, plus/minus key on number pad, if your keyboard has one, will not work) = Increase/Decrease Font Size
O - Tap Once = Rotate through Different Opacity Of Subtitle Text
W - Tap Once = Rotate through Different Opacity Of Subtitle Window/Background
0 - 9 (Numbers Zero thru Nine), "End" key = Parts of the video by percentage, sounds confusing but it's pretty simple....Anytime you hit the zero key (0), the video will go to the very beginning, no matter how long or short the video is. For numbers one thru nine (1-9), think of the video as a whole, being 100%, so if you hit the number three (3), the video will automatically go to the spot where the video is 30% played, if you hit the number five (5), the video will go to exactly the half way, or 50%, mark, and so on and so on. Hitting the "End" key will go to the very end of the video.
Hope this helps, I know it seems like a lot, most people usually find just 3-4 shortcuts that really help them out and use most often, just wanted you to have all of them so you could pick which ones work for you the best. Take care, look forward to more Ren reactions from you! ✌💚

I don't feel this song is a "proper" duet, it's more like 2 ghost's singing the same song in a corridor they haunt, Chinchilla's voice hauntingly echoing Ren's as they go through the pain of being chalk outlines..
A "proper" duet between them is the "Live" version of "How to be Me" sung between them on the bridge where Ren's friend Joe unalived himself, it is a beautiful song in tribute to Joe's memory.
Great comment, but it's not true about the location of the How to be me video, that was done on a rooftop (either London or Brighton I expect). The bridge where Joe took his life is in North Wales.
