Because people keep asking me “when are you going to post” “why aren’t you uploading” even though I upload shorts every day
The downside to shorts is that anyone finds them so you get haters real easy. They lack the community that actual channel videos attract. Also people will get real pressed by a short because they get offended after filling in the contextual blanks. I don’t use TikTok anymore (or Twitter) because it is very easy for people to gaslight, misinform, hate, and spread nonsense due to the lack of time and space the original person had to create content or defend themselves against extremists who love to ASSUME. Honestly not even cat or makeup videos are safe from this type of energy. And as a creator who rightfully wants to stand up for themselves, it’s easy to get sucked into that negativity.

But as Darcei pointed out, when a trend happens, a business has to keep up, so short videos have made their ways to all the platforms. Many people create in TikTok and cross post to other platforms. To say they’re “trying to be TikTok” sounds a lot like a high schooler of a “we did it first” gatekeepey type. Like, lol it’s not that serious and that’s how business works.

The sheer amount of queerphobia in the comments to shorts of queer creators and/or creators covering queer content is enough for me to never want to dip my toes into shorts. It even happens for channels that usually have a really safe and queer-friendly community, like One Topic. I can't think of anymore examples off the top of my head right now because it's 5 in the morning, but I know there's multiple others. I generally try not to let that stuff bother me, but I really don't need anymore negativity in my life right now. I don't have a TikTok, and I don't plan on getting one.

All I can say is I’m glad darcie still posts these UA-cam shorts, because there is no tiktok in India and I feel so many creators I used to watch just disappeared. So thank you for posting UA-cam shorts♥️

I can’t stand TikTok and it sucks that really good UA-camrs who made really awesome videos have to change their content to “keep up with the times” to survive and make a living. I love sitting down after a long day to watch a video that’s longer than 11sec. I can’t wait for Tiktok to no longer be a thing so the world can slow back down a bit and really well crafted longer length videos can be appreciated again. I’ve missed this so much and it was nice to watch a longer Darcei vid again :)

I agree that you do what u gotta do but i did feel like it was over kill content because it was the same across all platforms. That's partially why i feel bad when creators only make one type of content because when that topic or trend kinda dies so does their career.
I feel like the pressure for content creators to constantly be dishing out content primarily comes from tik tok & youtube & other platforms' algorithms. It's not necessarily consumers demanding that creators make 5 videos a day - it's the algorithms that are favoring creators who are putting out content constantly. I wish that the algorithm wasn't like this because I feel like literally all the creators I watch online are burnt out and stressed right now.

Several UA-camrs that I watch are having the same issue - exhaution and burnout from content pressure. This was a big issue with Buzzfeed content producers - more content, more frequently, and faster. And now we don't see so much Buzzfeed. I am guessing that UA-cam is now paying by frequency of uploads, and not time. TikTok is fine for people whose content relies on fast editing skills, but detrimental to those who have built a following based on personality and depth of content. I prefer the latter, which is why I don't like TikTok. I know it's a luxury for some content providers to stick to what suits them best, not what UA-cam administrators dictate. Let viewers and content creators decide what works best, and let it pan out from there.

It just goes to show once again how important it is to have balance in your life and be okay with your mental health; we all need a break and engage in activities where you don't feel constant pressure just because you don't do them. I lowkey hate the way the internet is turning to shorter videos. It seems like people have no attention span anymore, and can't comprehend anything unless it's "shorts" or "reels". I feel so sorry for youtubers who don't decide to do shorts to follow the flow and stay relevant.

Completely understand that people are drawn to the instant gratification of TikTok, and you as a creator feeling the need to keep up with the trends. Personally I’ve never downloaded or used TikTok, I have limited spare time, and definitely don’t want to get caught continuously scrolling. Medical studies have linked depression to too much scrolling too. So I’ll just keep my eye out for your future posts. Knowing when to say no, even to yourself, so you can establish balance again is important. Kudos to you girl for knowing when to say ‘when’ and putting yourself first. I enjoy wearing make up, that’s why I initially started watching your videos, and why I’ll keep watching them. Take care, and rest well.

This is a very special video for me, because from next monday I'm going to start working full time and studying at hybrid university (half online and half offline) at the same time, and my biggest fear is loosing that balance and time for myself. I get easily focus on tasks to the point where, like you said, I neglect myself... I don't want that.

Good luck! Boundaries are really important! I like to have a full rest day a week bc that's what I need to function, but everyone's different. Having time baked in that you start doing your first week is really helpful in my experience to set that routine in motion

UA-cam shorts are so fun to watch and i know that not just in India but in other countries tiktok is banned (in some countries facebook and twitter is also banned) and i understand how good they might feel knowing that they youtube shorts is kind of like the new tiktok for them. At first i was confused on why you were posting just shorts because i havent watched your videos in a long time but now i totally get it. I can't speak for everyone but the videos I enjoy the most and come back to rewatch long after they're posted are all 40+ minutes. With short content like TikTok my brain gets too overwhelmed with all the emotions that 1 minute and under content gives when you keep swiping through fyp/follow even though the algorithm has adapted to my interests pretty well. But I still watch shorts mostly when I'm in bed so I'll stick around :D

You should take a beach trip to hilton head! its sooo beautiful there! theres alot of nice hotels and resorts. and resturants that have AMAZING food! and theres alot of areas with alot of shops with some cool items and merchandise!! definetley recommend. i went there last summer. i stayed at a marriot resort. it was beautiful!!

I’ve noticed that social media goes into waves of long and short form content. You tube was popular and then Vine came. There have been people migrating to Vine and when the app died off, Viners came on to UA-cam. Then Musically came along, wasn’t as popular but people were on it- then back to UA-cam… now Tiktok… Chances are, UA-cam might be back on the long videos in a couple of years. The topics that I’ve seen most popular are true crime (as it was prior to major internet usage), health/healing of all kinds, spirituality, minimal makeup… it’s totally different from before so I definitely understand being Nomadic when it comes to moving where your content will be most profitable🤷🏾♀️ It’s ever-so-changing

i'm still watching, but yeah july is monsoon season in korea and will rain practically all month (then august is hot af...my first trip wasin august and lordt the heat and humidity). unless you watch the weather towards the end of june and see (i know weather is unpredictable) but that's still a thought and would even say, despite the rain it would still probably be really fun to experience especially now that restrictions in korea are lifting and everything is opening up!
