Great video Morgan. This is one of the main reasons I rarely play roller anymore. And the fact that it is super hot compared to the ice rink. Great review!!
That St. Louis heat is murder in the summer. It's hot up here in Chicago but nothing like the heat you all get. You gotta play where they have good AC. Inline rink time is just easier to come by for me and there's a lot of fun guys that I've been playing with for years, or I'd 100% switch to ice. It's more fun for sure. Thanks Jack!!
Nice review of the rollerflies. I’ve only played on ice once for an evaluation and sliding was way easier than the rollerflies. I attached my rollerflies the same way on my Warrior G3’s. They are spendy for plastic, but well worth it once you use them. Still have to do the shuffle sometimes though because I suck at T-pushes. The only thing I wish in roller hockey is that the net had pegs or attached to the floor somehow so we could push off the net to go post to post without pushing the net off the goal line and having to fix it all the time.
I played outside on a concrete (tennis court-like surface) when I first started. One cool thing we had was regulation (very heavy) ice rink nets. Without pegs, they stayed in place fairly well. Nothing like a well placed ice net on pegs, but still pretty decent. Convince your league to buy some used ice hockey nets!!
Me too Shaun. I don't know why, but I resisted for years. That was dumb because they exponentially make the position more fun. They're so worth the money.
First few seconds of the video "Morgan - Amazing" Review OVER lolol I will always say that deck hockey looks WAYY harder (for a goalie) than ice, makes complete sense that after using and sliding with these that ice would be way easier, nicely done on the review buddy!
Hahaha - Right, if I had just ended it at the 0:16 mark it would have been way better. Too funny Mike. The improvement on ice was unexpected but super welcome. I practiced and practiced but my slides still sucked. But once I had to power through the extra resistance of inline it was night and day. It's like using a donut on your baseball bat. Once you take it off, your regular swing is so much easier! Thanks for watching Mike!
I’ve never played inline before, but I’d have to imagine that goalie-Ing is much more difficult than being on ice. Do you think playing inline helps you on the ice? Does it hinder? The slides going down your driveway and street were freaking hilarious. I imaged what it would be like to be your neighbor and see that...Great video, buddy!
First, my neighbor drove by while I was shooting it and asked me if I'd been sniffing glue. And the two kinds of skating really do help the other in my opinion. I think inline probably helps your ice game more than the other way around. Inline goalie is like running uphill. When the hill flattens out, regular running seems easier. After a few inline games, you are amazed at how much easier ice seems and how much better your ice game gets!
IceIceGoalie, hahaha! I’ve declined invites to play inline, mostly so I wouldn’t tear my pads up but the roller fly would prevent that as well. I’ve played with a group (the MHL skates) and they are primarily inline guys. They transition the the ice very well.
@@hawkeyegoalie Inline does mess up your pads for sure. I have a separate set for ice and inline for that reason, plus I attach the sliders with velcro that is somewhat permanent (you can get it off with chemicals but you wouldn't want to be doing that all the time to switch)
@@iceicegoalie-OG That makes sense. I'm a ball hockey goalie transitioning to ice, and I wanted to get tips on how to attach the Rollerfly to modern ice pads without leather straps. The installation video is from 2014, and tells the goalie to run the leather straps through the large plate. I plan on taking the Rollerflys on and off until I can afford a second set of pads specifically for ball hockey.
@@ilyazhitomirskiy9218 I have a video about attaching the roller fly to modern pads, but my solution is not very good for switching back and forth. The flys come with their own velcro straps and you can sandwich them into your pad's knee stack (if your pads have a removable/adjustable stack). For the main slide area you can experiment with wrapping the straps around-through your pads depending on how they're made. They definitely work on modern pads and are actually designed to be easily removable. The straps are ugly but they work. But in my opinion, your best bet, especially if you plan to continue to play both, is to have 2 sets of pads and use the industrial strength velcro tape to attach the flys.
I've played on a few different types of hockey tiles and the RollerFlys worked really well. One rink has brand new, very sticky tiles (not sure what brand). The RollerFlys slide great on the sticky or dusty floors. I looked up Snipers Edge tiles and they look like the same ones we use at the rink in my videos. I haven't tried M dek sliders. If you go with the RollerFlys I put up a video showing how to attach them without straps (looks way cooler).
The COVID is a bummer for sure! For concrete you can get these with metal balls instead of plastic ones. It supposedly works much better and they won't grind flat.
I saw that but those sliders are so much more money . I love them I saw DekGoalie sliders look promising Pair I saw goes 117 bucks after shipping and handling Demos looks ok
@@ejwski3615 I'd love to see a review on those EJW. That is a good deal. I know one goalie who attached those hard plastic furniture sliders to his pads. They worked pretty well on painted concrete and they are very inexpensive.
Thanks for response . Saw a UA-cam video on a kid who bought materials placed it on his pads and he was sliding on asphalt hockey rink like ice but it was loud Like I said roller fly is awesome Liking DekGoalie for price more When I get it I’ll do a full review on it because only 1 video shows it on sport court . People said it’s pretty good on asphalt
For painted concrete, Rollerfly sells metal balls to use instead of the plastic ones. I found some here: coasthockeyshop.com/products/rollerfly-replacement-balls-metal-plastic?variant=10508062852 The heavy plastic material the sliders are made of will wear quicker on concrete but it's an extremely tough plastic. The metal balls can also scratch the paint on the concrete surface so check with your rink to make sure it's okay to use them.

Roller hockey is just a shir version of hockeh
I see more and more goalies using these now I recomend them to everyone, cant believe I played as long as I did without them

Nice, Captain! Those almost make me wish I was a goalie!
Thanks Chris! You let me bang on your drums for a while and I'll suit you up in all the gear and let you stop some pucks!
Sorry about the loud slider noise at the very beginning. That's only bad in the first minute and sound gets much better once we're on the rink.
Sick vid

My 06 plays ice but is starting inline. What do recommend brand wise and were cam you get them?
