Ronaldo was the greatest after Pele, the closest I've seen to Pele in my eye's.. And he won so much at such a young age.. Ronaldo7 and Messi could not touch him.. If R9 played for Pep in that Barca team that played tika taka brazilian style football I believe Ronaldo could have got 60 to 70 goals in one season he was that good.. He was much stronger and faster than messi and he could score with both feet.. Instead he went way to early to the Serie A which ruined him even though he went on winning trophy after trophy.. It was also clear that he bulked up to much which slowed him down at RM but he still played stunning football there too. Messi hasn't one world cup trophy to his name nor has a a Copa America but R9 has two wc winners medals and two or three copa america's.. R9 could have had 3 world cup medals but I think the world cup where he had that fit was fixed.. I think he was told to step down to allow France to win.. Also if I think R9 played in Pep Barca team he would have broken all records as that style would have created so many chances for him.. He proved himself in italy the hardest league defensively in the world. Anyone can see that even Ronaldo of Portugal can't get near the amount of goals he used to score at RM.. I believe Messi would only score around 20 goals a season in the Seire A where would be marked out of many games. Pele is the greatest of all time and I don't care what anyone says as he was a goal machine who dominated european teams at club and national level.. if he were playing today with the amazing conditions the players play in he would dominate even more..

@@EveryDayHeroes89 The thing is Ronaldo didn't have any real outspoken rival during his prime and he suffered injuries that kept him away from playing 2 years, and after his sensational comeback he didn't have anything to prove after winning WC 2002 and receiving his 3rd Ballon d'or. He more or less just enjoyed his stay at Real Madrid not really accomplishing anything spectacular from here on. Messi and C. Ronaldo, both rise from the following generation players, are in a league for themselves, no doubt, but their competiviness against each other was the cataclysm for both of them to achieve better than the other. Also, they have not suffered major injuries hindering them from playing. In hindsight, I believe, C. Ronaldo have achieved more, since he managed to win with different clubs and also the national team. Messi however is the most natural skilled of them.

A few months before the 1994 WC, coach Carlos Parreira wasn't sure whether to call up Ronaldo or Dener. But even an "average" season of messi and cr7 like Messi 10-11, messi 14-15, messi 12-13 or cr7 11-12, 14-15 or 15-16 are as good if not better than that.
And i dont talk about pele, eusebio, gerd muler ect because it was at an era were football was completely different so its impossible to compare, but pele probably dominated his era as much as messi and cr7, so if we judge strictly based on the level of their respctive era, pele is probably there too.

I disagree, watch Messi at 20/21, he was incredible and was at right wing whereas Ronaldo was at no 9. I think you can have the opinion that was Ronaldo was better but you can also say that Messi was just as good. Look at what he did against Chelsea on a 50’s type of muddy pitch against a really good defensive mourinho unit who were trying injure especially del horno but he was the best player on the pitch them even w the great ronaldinho on the field, against Juve around that time maybe even a few years earlier and Real Madrid at around that age he would destroy them.

Strength to hold off defenders, expert in exploiting gap between opponent's Midfield and defence, pace to run past the quickest RBs and LBs, highly capable of long range shots, exceptional in one vs one against GKs and lasg man in defence. His knee injury and the guy who did it and his teammates were despicable in the way they set out to stopping him by any means(led to injury) If he wasn't injured badly at such a young age, he would've won many Ballon d'Or, UCL, World Cups, Copa America, league titles. The crazy thing is you can be confident and say for sure that he would've been the greatest ever to play the game. Garrincha, Eusebio, Di Stefano, Puskas, Baresi, Cruyff, Didi, Tostão, Jairzinho, Falcão, Platini, Van Basten, Romário, Sócrates, Beckembauer (what this man did as a defender was unreal), Maldini, , Baggio, Rivaldo in his best days, Ronaldinho in his best days, Zidane, Figueroa, Charlton, Laudrup, Mathews, Best, Zizinho, Mathaus. Those are geniuses of the sport who some might not have had the longevity but at their best were nearly every little bit as good as Messi and Ronaldo (some actually better than Cristiano actually but he does have the longevity in his favour and unbelievable numbers and work ethic that make him an absolute legend). Now, the world of football for people who truly know it has always been lacking a bit in terms of organization of competitions and regularity overall so you can't judge some of these players by their stats or titles (although all of then won a lot), you truly have to watch then play and study their careers to realize how special they are. My personal top 5 would be
1-Pelé: Seriously the dude isn't overrated, he is/was indeed the perfect football player and a crazy athlete, the reaction time, the fucking chip shots from outside the box with his left foot on freaking awful pitches and with bad cleats and a heavy ass ball are probably the most impressivel thing I've ever seen from a football player and the guy was a dribbling god as well. You watch him play to realize it has nothing to do with era he would be the best at anytime, the split second body feints you see Messi do today, one can recognize that same type of instinct on Pelé, that's the natural gift only a few even amongst the greatest have. The most complete player ever, could literally do anything, there were zero flaws in his game; strong and skillful, fast as hell, 44 inch vertical leap (Pelé actually dunked playing basketball in Brazil despite being only 1.73m tall), one of the greatest headers ever, BY FAR the greatest finisher overall in the history of football (I personally have Romário, Cristiano and Van Basten as my tie for second but overall from all distances, angles and with both legs Pelé is above anyone); dude was born to play football
2-Maradona: Again, another god; had he been a little better finisher he would have been the greatest in my opinion. Still, it's almost impossible to describe what it felt like watching the guy play at his best, I mean if anyone wants an example go watch the quarterfinals and semifinals of the 86 WC against England and Belgium, it wasn't only the goals, he alone by himself created about 6 chances per game it was insane, he was a savage spirit with the natural talent of a greek god on teh field
3-Messi: an alien, in a class by himself over anyone I've seen in the past 20 years for sure and you watch him even I sometimes ask myself if I still think it's possible that there it ever was someone at his level. Not gonna say much about him coz the videos are out there as he's playing in the modern era.
4-Ronaldo: This one is a special case, R9 was the single most talented individual to ever to put on a pair of cleats in my opinion, yes even more than Pelé, Maradona or Messi. The sheer level of raw potential will never ever be matched in my personal opinion, had he not ruptured his knee at only 22 years old god knows what his career would looke like, and even then at about 60% of what he should have been he was still ahead of Zidane, Henry, Figo, Rivaldo or anyone else in the late 90s early 2000s. I don't know how to explain it, like before his injuries I can't really describe it coz you see he never played at a truly great team with a system to maximize his talents and still it was something unique. I mean I'll put it this way; watching Messi, Maradona and Pelé, all of then they broke the mode, they are aliens but you see then get the ball and you, knowing then, try to picture in your head what they can do to get out of a situation. It's gonna be impossibly hard but they still are able to do it that's why they are who they are, but with Ronaldo what happened is that even me watching I could not imagine what he was he had just done next, it was something that didn't seen humanly possible at times the level he showed in some matches, and all of that knowing that he never had a team that fed him the ball nearly as much as they should. I mean, he was the unquestioned best player in the world from the time he was 19 till his injury, living through that time NO ONE even questioned it and he was freaking 20 years old and there were guys like Zidane, Berkgamp, Figo, Baggio, Nedved, Rivaldo, Romario, Edmundo, Del Piero, but no one had any doubt that 20 year old guy was the best… it was unreal
5-Zico: Most complete midifielder I've ever seen and second most complete player ever behind Pelé for me, could do anything even acrobatic passes and goals. Unbelievably underrated, talent wise every bit as good as anyone I've ever seen, I mean he was basically a Messi on the midfield who could shoot nearly as well as Pelé and is by far the greatest close range free kick taker ever. The only reasons he would be fifth behing the other 4 here is the diference is while he could dribble past 3 or 4 people on the run as well and score solo goals, his speed overall was a tad below the other 4.
Out of those 5 for me all others are very hard to rank coz all of then are gods of the game as well, how is it we decide who's better than who? Do you consider the totality of their career? Do you consider how good they were in their best 2 or 3 year stretch? For me it’s pretty simple, I go by what my eyes tell me and the talent I see in each player, if we were playing a ramdom match at the park in my neighborhood and I got the first pick who would I choose out of everyone that has ever played football (all of then in their best version)? That's why those 5 are in a special class for me, followed very closely by Garrincha (people need to understand how good this man was, sometimes watching him you feel like he only got away with the thing he did coz of the era but then you think again and one on one no defender ever then, now or in the future would take the ball away from him), Cruyff (best european player ever for sure in my opinion, not much to be said dude was like athletic like Jairzinho with the class of Zidane), Di Stefano (for me the greatest player ever until the 1960s, very similar to Cruyff actually), Romário (unbelievable, for me ahead of Van Basten, Eusebio or any other striker ever in terms of pure talent and skill only behind Ronaldo for me), Beckembauer (holy shit BY FAR the greatest defender ever and I’m even including Maldini and Figueroa in the conversation) and Rivelino (talent wise as an individual player I think he was better than Zidane, Rivaldo, Baggio and many others)

Great read! Your points may be the best I've seen in a comments section for who the greatest player ever is. It's definitely a hard one to judge because there are too many factors to consider but I agree with the eye test and the playground analogy. Statistics should always compliment an argument especially in football so I'm not into using them for determination. Some hat-tricks are less valuable than others if you know what I mean..
In saying that, the top 5 that I would pick based for my playground team who i think were best (from what I've seen at their peak in entire games, not just highlights)
      1. Messi
      2. Ronaldo (Brazil)
      3. Maradona
      4/5 tie Ronaldinho / Zidane
Cant say Pele as I've never seen a full game on a regular basis. Are there games where he doesn't turn up yet wins and gets the glory? 🤷‍♂️
My list wasn't easy and it's very close. I could have put Ronaldinho at the top quite easily (my favourite player to watch) but other factors come into play like consistency, trophies etc.
Becomes a much more interesting conversation when you start to consider the factors from a different perspective

But Ronaldo won La Liga that season for Real Madrid, being more consistent doing also better than Messi in Champions League where he scored 10 goals and Real Madrid only didnt won Champions that year because they lost in penalties vs Bayern.
Messi scored 73 goals, but around 10 of those goals were squeezed in minor competitions
While Ronaldo barely played spanish Cup that season because Mourinho Was focus in winning the tittle and he still scored 60 goals in 55 games.way better than other players you drescribe in your comment...

A little correction info there. Johan Cruyff recommended & signed Ronaldo from the Dutch league to Barca but left his post as the head coach at the same summer. You wonder how unfortunate for the player himself not to be coached by the Dutch maestro who was the perfect manager that brought total football with him as a player & implemented attacking freestyle as a coach for the 8 years in charge? Rather than an Englishman with no experience in La Liga or playing attractive attacking style. Also no pedigree in winning big trophies like Johan’s

During the 1997 Copa América, their attacking duo became knows as Ro-Ro, and, together, they scored 20 goals and won all 6 games in the competition in absolutely SMASHING performances by both of them. They also won the Confederations Cup that same year for the national team.

Two years in before his first big injury and all he had won was Uefa Cup. He left a superteam for whatever reasons. Bad move. All he has to show after that first promising season is one Uefa Cup and that World Cup. One good season in Madrid and that's it.
