The word Sozialist (socialist) is often abbreviated as Sozi in German. That's why Nationalsozialist is abbreviated as Nazi. It has nothing to do with Zionism
i thought that "na-zi" came from the first 2 syllables of how "national" is pronounced in german... not the first syllable of the first word and the second of second word..
"Germans wouldn't use it so easily in every day language" isn't really (so) true any more. the younger generation (born 80's - 90's) today does not have such a... complicate relation to the word nazi. that may have various reasons. the word transforms actually into a kind of conman cuss word in the German youth speech e.g. if you want to say, that someone try to accomplish his own will be force and against every other opinion. (but you wouldn't say it to a person you don't know!)
That is not true for where i come from. i don't know which part of germany you are from or wich social backround you have or where your informations comes from at all, but I would feel highly offended by someone calling me a Nazi and i would not use it as a common cussword.
in some way it is about if your are allowed to hurt a child because of your relligios beliefs. The boy has cut of a part of his body and the question is "is that violating the rights of the boy" in perticular one of the most important laws in germany Basic Law Article 2 Section 2 "Every person shall have the right to life and physical integrity." there is also a law about Freedom of Religion. The question at the moment is wich Law is more important.
I am speaking of male teenagers or young adaults (in ages up to 29) and i would guess manly in urban areas (e.g. Berlin, Cologne or Hamburg). So its more like an urban thing. And as I said, you would never say it to a person you don't know, only between friends. Btw. I grew up in Berlin in a pretty normal middle class family. A good example is e.g. the commen (internet) frase "grammer nazi". It also found its way into the commen german urban youth speech.
The act of circumcision is supposed to be an act or display of dedication to the ...Nationalistic God of Israel. I know there is a commandment to do circumcision to a newborn boy in the scripture. However, the boy has no say in what is done to him at that point, how is that dedication? How is that even vague faith? The child is probably even born in another country... And i'm sure that some of the more ridiculous commandments are dismissed anyway. Out of all 613, there have to be at least 10.

the audio in some of the videos, including this one, when listening through the headphone can only be heard on one side....
My left ear thoroughly enjoyed this etmology lesson.
why doesn't the sound come from the right side of the speaker???
Same, especially since there's a clear t in the pronunciation, which isn't there when pronouncing the "zi"-syllable in "sozialist"
seems the sound is broken...
Very nice! What does this professor study and teach? Is he a language and/ or a history professor?
