The tactical approach matters, but today let's focus on the importance of vibes and personality fit of the like of Ange Postecoglu, Zinedine Zidane, Thomas Frank, Julian Nagelsmann, Roberto De Zerbi and Xabi Alonso at Anfield.

Has to be Alonso. I feel he will bring the least disruption, relatable, no ego, will keep things going. Can identify good players. I reckon can make us even better. There's a risk whoever we get. Alonso is the smallest risk imho.

What we have to realise ,as a club, we can't look for a Klopp clone......there's none! We need someone completely different. We need a new, young manager......my choice would be Xabi Alonso. He has all the tools to get to the very top of the game. Julian Nagelsmann is a great coach but his attitude is a problem.....ask anybody at Munich. Would love Roberto De Zerbi too.....anybody who Real Madrid looked at to replace Ancelotti, is good enough for me.

No one can replace Klopp realistically, not even from the point of view of his skill as a manager, but the energy and command he brings to the club. Alonso I genuinely think is the only one I believe could step in for a somewhat seamless transition. He looks like an extraordinary young talent, and knows/loves the club. Everything is a disappointment right now but he would give me the most hope.

Personally I think there’s only one logical choice. There’s great managers who are ageing and won’t be there for long and then we’re in the same boat again needing a new manager. A lot of people are begging for experience; Frank and de Zerbi, I like them both, but the problem is their style is the exact same as Klopp’s which again I think is only going to work short term. Pep dominated with Tiki-Taka, but as soon as Brendan Rodgers was playing that style at Swansea, you saw that style die out because everyone had it sussed out. Right now gegenpressing in its multiple forms is the dominant form of football, not just in the sense teams winning trophies, but also in how many clubs play that way, like the teams rock bottom of the league are starting to play it. It’s a style of play with a ticking time bomb on it until it’s completely sussed out and if you want to win trophies you’ll have to innovate. So that rules out every single copycat which includes the once highly regarded Nagelsmann. Michel (Girona), Thiago Motta (Bologna) and Xabi Alonso (Leverkusen) are all playing a new style of football, each with their own distinctive style. Michel almost certainly being groomed for the City job. Motta won’t meet the entertainment standards. Then there’s the best of the bunch, Xabi Alonso who just so happens to be a former Liverpool player. All these people asking for more experience, I don’t agree with it. Dalglish, Guardiola, Zidane, Arteta, plenty of examples of showing someone is good enough despite experience. Alonso with all that potential he has with a style of football that has undone the most popular style of play in the world right now and bare in mind it takes the world 8 years or so to catch up, it’s only the very best that will innovate. So while the likes of Brighton will be playing a style for the best part of a decade, Alonso will have the rest of the league sussed out along with the bulk of Europe all while everyone will try to imitate him. Inheriting a great squad that’s got a good amount of talented young players, Xabi could be another Paisley or Guardiola. That risk is far better than going for a manager who’ll more than likely be fired in three years. It’s time to be ahead of the curve and setup for the longterm. Then stick with the Liverpool way, Alonso’s replacement should be someone who played under Klopp, Henderson, Milner, Virg all come to mind. Players who use their mind above their talent. Whatever the future holds for those players is completely unpredictable though. But I’m just generally speaking there. It seems likely that one of them will join the back room staff when they retire.

@@user-zk9xe3wm3v Alonso has spoken in the past. He considers Liverpool his second home, not Real and not Bayern. He also didn’t dump us for Real. Rafa dumped him because he wanted to sign Barry the summer before. Xabi dumped Rafa not Liverpool.

@@user-zk9xe3wm3v I was never rude to you and you’ve come back with an attitude. I don’t have to do my research, but you most certainly do. Rafa left June 2010. FSG bought Liverpool October 2010. Hicks and Gillette ran the club into the ground. Rafa didn’t have to sell to buy because Hicks and Gillette took out loans and didn’t pay any of it back putting the club in debt and on the verge of administration which FSG saved the club from. I don’t have to do research, I lived it. You very clearly did not and yet you have an attitude because you feel a need to be right on everything when Rafa Benitez himself said that he felt Gareth Barry was better in the system than Xabi Alonso and so he tried selling Alonso and signing Barry. Xabi Alonso said himself that if that had not occurred he would’ve stayed. So maybe next time rather than arguing you are right and telling people to do research perhaps actually stop, think and wonder if what you have to say is actually right and whether the person you’re talking to actually knows more than you do. Anything you say hence forth will be completely and utterly rendered useless for the mere fact you thought FSG were in charge while Rafa was at the club. That’s not an opinion that’s a fact and you twisting those words is also not an opinion. It’s called manipulation and you insisting you are right is you attempting to manipulate me when the very quote you supplied backs up that Xabi left because Rafa didn’t want him. It’s also not an opinion that you think Xabi would leave again for Real, that’s a prediction and I’m sorry, Mystic Meg, but that just doesn’t cut it.

    • @archerpool
      @archerpool 4 місяці тому +1

@@user-zk9xe3wm3v What a load of drivel. Rafa considering Alonso expendable is like Klopp considering van Dijk expendable and that there’s better out there. It’s just clueless from Rafa. Alonso chose to leave for a completely justifiable reason, he wasn’t valued by the manager and he knew he was one of the best in the world and therefore shouldn’t be sitting on the bench because his manager wanted a different player who wasn’t even as good. That’s not thick skinned enough, that’s called not being stupid and wasting your career where you’re not wanted. Real genius if your manager wants to get rid of you and you decide to stay. These aren’t your opinions, these are your very skewed perspective of life which are extremely bias and designed to suit you and ignoring logic of others. And as for the lacking experience part, again, it’s been proven in the past that experience isn’t as vital as you think. If you wanted to convey an opinion, all you needed to say was “Personally I don’t want Alonso.” Instead you got argumentative because “My opinion is the only valid one and fuck anyone who disagrees, let me make shit up and twist someone’s words to make them seem like they stabbed us in the back so I can be all high and mighty. Fuck Xabi Alonso, the worthless bastard. When he says left I hear right and no one can say otherwise. He’s a lying little rat.” You’re beyond childish.

He is the only candidate. Look who he has been coached by... Rafa, Mourinho, Ancelloti and Pep. I know hes not winning leagues, but look what Arteta has done at Arsenal in his first job and he only learned from one top quality manager in Pep (maybe Wenger). If (and its a big if...) Alonso wins the league in Germany this year, ending the Bayern dominance. I think that shows that he has what it takes to manage us and he would come with experience as a player who played for huge clubs, won huge trophies and bosses almost every game he was in, and the experience of playing for the great managers iv mentioned, as well as a year and a half taking a team from flirting with relegation to winning the German league.
And yes... He is sooo cool! For me... Alonso is the man!

I only really like the idea of Xabi or Lijnders. My main gripe with Lijnders is who his coaching staff would be, because I think the others would wanna be with Klopp when he eventually takes his next job. I remember Clemence once talking about what Paisley said and did after Shankly left - it was basically about keeping it going. Alonso coming in to the hot seat isn't a take-for-take parallel to Paisley taking over (he wouldn't be. Jürgen Klopp has built and solidified so much of what we know and feel as “The Liverpool Way” / “The Liverpool Identity” that it only makes us feel comfortable when someone like a Xabi Alonso, who is one of us and also, at this moment in time, being successful, is in line to lead our squad next year. No one else in that list makes us feel “safe”.
At this moment, no one but Xabi Alonso would make us feel better.
But my worry is exactly that. What if we are too emotional about this, about feeling comfortable with ourselves, that we make the wrong decision in bringing in someone who hasn’t had that much of an experience at the very top level?
The best we can hope for is for Xabi to come in, pick up right where Jürgen left off, hit the ground running, and make Mikel Arteta look like a poor man’s Xabi Alonso.
We have an interesting 12 months ahead of us. Hopefully, in a really good way.

Hear me out, I think Jose would actually fit really well. Yes his football seems extremely shit but look at the squads he's had at his last few jobs (United, Spurs, and Roma). Even at Spurs he had good spells where they were playing scintillating, fast paced direct football. Imagine what he could do with a proper squad like ours with the strength and professionalism we have. I genuinely think he'd have us playing like his record breaking Real Madrid team... with Trent's passing range, our lightning paced attackers, and our physical center backs Jose would have a field day especially in big games. I also think he's got a really strong personality and would actually bring the heat and experience needed to battle Pep, unlike some of the younger managers that are being linked. My only concern with Jose is he's got a bit of an ego but he's shown that deep down he's a good guy with a lot of passion, and given that he has talked plenty about how much respect he has for Liverpool over the years, I think he could be a revelation here.

It doesn't need to be the big personality to drive success. The more studious type that can engender the same culture within the club, could be just what we need. I know it seems a bit safe in many ways but don't underestimate the bleeding obvious. Failing that, Xabi Alonso all day long. Between Xabi and Ruben Amorim for me. Our successful M.O is to get manager's who take unfashionable teams to new heights. Both currently fit that mold, although both are huge risks. I'd lean towards Xabi, simply that he'd be guaranteed time, where as I think a poor start from Amorim might see him lose some of the crowd.

Spot on video Paul. As an Australian with a Greek background, I would be made up if Big Ange got the job. His ideals and his personality for me would be the perfect fit (his persona is probably slightly more Rafa than Klopp, but he has a decent sense of humour), and his style of football, with better players than Spurs, he could do some special things. Agree your thoughts on Frank and De Zerbi, he gives me Potter at Chelsea vibes. Xabi Alonso appeals to me given his Liverpool background. He is the standout young manager in world football and I would be prepared to give him the reigns, especially if he guides Leverkusen to the Bundesliga. So Xabi or Ange for me and I’d be happy.

Ange would be a terrible pick because he's tactically very naive. Gerrard's tactics are basic at best. Alonso has to be the one that takes over. I know he hasn't been in management that long, but he's already shown that with a limited budget, he can still get the most out of a squad.

Xabi is all set for greatness, he was one of the most complete midfielders, maybe the best passer the game has had, having won everything trophy out there in his make up, picking a second bottom team, against all odds to 6th placed finish and good run in Europa league, now top of the German league, all the signs are there that he is next klopp with a different personality though, he was adored by Liverpool fans, he is the one, it’s all falling in place for him to come take the baton from klopp, take Liverpool to new heights, safe guard klopps unbelievable work and the the foundation that klopp has put in place, with a transitonal period in the beginning, Xabi takes Liverpool to new heights and in the process show his greatness, marriage made in heaven, exactly it was when klopp came, Xabi it is and Xabi is the man.

I'm very sad because Klopp is leaving, I will miss the man more that I will miss the manager, but as a very positive person that I am, I want for us to use this opportunity to go for higher level. Maybe we can go for a manager with a possession based football with better knowledge in open up low blocks and in the same time a better defensive structure to stop conceding very easy goals by any team of the planet. Don't get me wrong, Klopp was AMAZING for us but I'm very sure we had always been the underdogs with him at the wheel, I want for us to go to the next level and dominate. Personally, there's huge reservations over Xabi Alonso. Will the interest disappear should he fail to win the Bundesliga ? The permutations as L'pool manager aren't as transparent as one would presume. Klopp is a manager first & foremost, while that's seems absurd & wildly obvious, there's a huge disparity between let's say for example, Klopp & Pep. Klopp oversee's the bureaucracy & administration of the club, Pep is a coach first. He also has a team around him assisting the daily rigours of the job. Another valid argument in favour of Klopp in the old proverbial "Vs Pep" debate. FSG function under a specific ethos, ultimately a "Sell before buy" policy. It's only my opinion but it's way too way for Xabi. De Zerbi would seem an inevitable option but an option only, Nagglesman has to be our first viable solution. This is a man who offers experience, personality & is wholey impressionable. Not to mention his ethos, his tactical approach to the game is similar to that of Klopp. The formation he plays, with a front 3, suggests so. I genuinely believe Nagglesman would be the right fit. And if we are interested, we have to act fast... He has a contract with the German national team up until early summer before the tournament starts. Basically a trial period. Alot of clubs will be sniffing around !

The trouble with anyone who has 'top-level experience' is that they generally also come with a lot of baggage. I think to use this as a reason not to go for someone like Alonso is a bit 'conservative'.
By this I mean that he seems to have obvious talent in managing a group of players because Levekeusen are actual proof of it. A certain amount of risk is a good thing if the positives outweigh the negatives and, in his case, they certainly seem to and that would mean that he is also FULL of juice (in his tank) and will also reap just as much satisfaction and enthusiasm as everyone else as he 'grows' with the club and us, the supporters. He becomes one of us by default in fact, as a pose to being the father-figure as Jurgen is.
Dunno if that makes sense but I'm just sayin'...

The next manager like all previous managers must carry on The Boot Room legacy and share the values that Shankly / the club stand for. Thomas Frank is really good shout. A nice manager, cares about his players / staff / wider community, has done wonders with the Brentford men’s team, gives players a chance, plays really attractive football. Frank has even coached the women’s division and academy teams a number of times too, supporting them, giving them feedback, watching their games etc... Plus Liverpool have a huge following in Denmark with Molby, Agger and now Lundgaard all playing for the club. We’ve got a massive OSC in Copenhagen too. YNWA

I agree with the Alonso view.
Been a Liverpool player, knows the expectations.
But going from where he is now to the size and might of Liverpool FC, this is a huge jump.
    What about Antonio Conte?
Managed at the highest level, won trophies, he is passionate.
But it would be a style of play, his relationship with the board.
What happened at Spurs, but he will have better players than he did at Spurs.

I think everyone is getting this in the wrong order. Surely the first and now most important thing is sporting director, who will then dictate the manager, coach and rest of the team. At the moment at the end of the year we have nothing. You can see at Man U how not having the correct sporting director leads to a series of incorrect manager.
It would be great if you could start at the less exciting but more important end.

  • @tyronefox3528

I think the timing of all this was for klopp to have it on his terms and it not coming from the media first. I also think there discussing a gentleman's agreement with Alonso to part ways in the summer. Big opportunity for him, a club he loves, a mouthwatering squad any manager would want! Plus.. I dont think Madrid would risk swapping Carlo for Xabi right now because of the lack of experience on Xabi's part.

I'm not sure on Xabi. Klopp's team is built for fast and direct transition, but Xabi likes to control possession with intricate short passing sequences. Xabi's history in the game and with the club brings the right vibe, but his tactical instruction will be very different to what the team is used to and has found success with. Doing what Xabi wants will be a project, that'll take time and some players won't fit. I'd give it to Pep Lijnders for continuity, both tactically and vibe, but sadly I don't think he wants it, and / or maybe FSG can't see he's ready

    • @MarcoAntonio-fq2tn
      @MarcoAntonio-fq2tn 4 місяці тому

Finally an accurate opinion, no one takes into account that Klopp's team is a team of quick transitions to Xabi's game which would be a guardiola 2.0 possession and infinite passing, if Xabi were to arrive it would be the last season for many team members. It would be a total gamble and a very risky one. The most logical thing would be for PEP Lijnders to continue with Klopp's project, it would be the natural thing to do.
