Comfort Zones - Scottish Steep Skiing

  • As skiers we all have to develop our own comfort zones. They will vary from person to person, depend on different factors - such as techniques, strength, risk attitudes - and cover different types of skiing, e.g. on-piste, off-piste, or ski-mountaineering. Comfort Zones explores what motivates some people to move from piste skiing to explorative steep gully skiing in Scotland and what drives them them to explore the limits of their Comfort Zones.
The movie was filmed around the Glenshee Ski area ski-glenshee.co.uk and draws on interviews with two academics: Dr Philip Ebert and Professor Laurie Paul.
Thoughts explored by Dr Philip Ebert are discussed in more detail in his publications
"A Plea for Risk" (Ebert & Robertson): dspace.stir.ac.uk/handle/1893/16005and
    "Know you competence" (Ebert): dspace.stir.ac.uk/handle/1893/28310
Ideas explored by Professor Laurie Paul, in particular her notion of Transformative Experience, are further developed - lapaul.org/TE....
Directed, filmed and edited by: Dr Stefan Morrocco (www.morroccomedia.com)
    Athletes:
    Philip Ebert

Standing staring uncomfortably into the gully, with the rising rush of equal parts adrenaline and fear. Drop in. Accelerate. Jump and turn. Again, again, again. The gully disappears behind in the shadow and the sounds you heard are quickly realised as your own. Stop and look back. Yes that was you. You did it.
That is Type 2 fund, and it's amazing.

This video is fantastic. How on earth does it only have 25k views? UA-cam, promote this to anyone who skis. They’ll love it.

That yowling voice in the background is unnecessarily distracting! Annoying!
