    I've always thought Taylor acoustic or electro-acoustics to be high end guitars based on their high end pricing. I think that's a couple of times I've seen/heard you question Taylor's quality against their pricing.
    Good fixing once again and I learnt from you and confirmed elsewhere that CA glue is great for filling fine cracks in wood. Excess CA glue sands back ok as well. Cheers, Dave.

      When I see Dave’s look on his face when he gets emotional about the disappointment rickenbacker basses offer, it reminds me of me. We have a similar Ricky story. We’re the same age and we both saved up and bought our own very expensive bass. I was 17. Worked all summer cleaning the meat department in a grocery store. Even the part after you buy it when the guy in the store warned about not using round wound strings. It was my first thing to do. Now Dave knows how awesome and freakin gorgeous that bass is and it sounds as good as it looks. When you show up to a gig, and you put that thing on, it’s on. At least back then late 70’s. I doubt that has changed but there’s many other basses now that make a statement. All eyes on you from musicians in the audience. What that did for me is that weird pressure made me a stronger player. I wasn’t going to let myself or that bass down. I think it was the only bass back then that carried that feeling of responsibility. It fades after a couple of decades but it’s was as real in Southern California as Canada or anywhere else and Dave knows that. Don’t let him be the Gooche that tells you not to put round wounds on your Rick. He would not like to be that dude either.
      Go get one and see for yourself.

I'm surprised they all don't grenade like this.

    Just a word on the guitar for all the speculation...it's 20+yrs old, one owner. It has never had its bridge replaced or re-glued or any work. Most of its life has been living in its custom Taylor case with an appropriate humidifier, so it has really been an easy life overall and not one exposed to excessive dry weather for any real length of time. So whatever the reason, the bridge failed and there are some hairline cracks and it's disappointing because it has lived an above board life. Either way, this particular guitar sounds fantastic to me and always has and that was the reason I bought it all those years ago.
    I also purchased a few tickets for Dave's entry in the Great Guitar Giveaway since it's a good cause and the guitar is pretty sick in person.
    Thanks again for the work Dave.

    Taylor bridges are glued on with Titebond. Given this obviously was peeling off due to humidity damage - which also cause the top cracks, I’d imagine this bridge was replaced previously and not sure what that is, but Taylor 100% uses Titebond

    • @gabrielobrien21
      @gabrielobrien21 Рік тому

      Lol bridges don’t lift and tops don’t crack due to string tension. The strings would break before causing that damage to a modern guitar. Tops crack due to extremely low humidity and that’s great he has a Dampit, but if it’s not gonna keep a guitar from cracking if it’s left out on a stand or in an extremely dry environment. All guitar manufacturers recommend 40-60% humidity. I have Martin literature from the 1800s warning about drying your guitar out. I’ve seen damage like this on plenty of guitars in Ohio because it gets extremely dry in winter.

    • @gabrielobrien21
      @gabrielobrien21 Рік тому +1

      Also, given the state of this guitar it wouldn’t surprise me if the bridge was re-done before. Taylor doesn’t use double stick tape, I’m 100% sure of it. They use Titebond.

      @@RAkers-tu1ey it’s normal to use heat to remove a bridge, just not like this.

When is somebody gonna put a brace running the long way to stop all this bs??? All the bracing in these things doesn't do anything if the guitar tries to fold itself up. I see this on all the repair channels and all the guitars I see. Sooner or later they go in for a neck reset.

If I'm going to spend the amount of money they ask, I will most def buy a different brand. I had a Chinese Epi that sounded great, it was only $100, I gave it to my daughter, as the neck was thinner than the Takamine she'd bought. (It sounded like crap & eventually fell apart. Granted it was one of their lower price points, but it cost double what the Epi cost. She still has the EPi after 15 years.)

There are wood glues that are on sheets and are heat activated that are very strong and not a cost cutting measure, more of a cleanliness and manufacturing efficiency measure. I've been watching this channel for a long time, and your dislike of all things Taylor are well established. However, Taylor makes a fine guitar, and the owner's abuse of this particular instrument is obvious, re: lack of humidity. I'm not a Taylor apologist, but a bit of fairness would be welcome. Besides, at least Taylor located the bridge in the right place, right? :)
