IX will get a remake before VIII. if either ever do. I would expect 10-3 before VIII remake as well, maybe even before IX. And I would expect all of this doesn't happen until they've completed VII.
Honestly, I don’t want a remake if it’s in the quality of their current games and I say that as a die hard Final Fantasy VIII fan. It’s all just pushed to the limits to earn as much money as possible and fit the „Netflix and chill“ braindead generation. Smashing on the same buttons over and over, no challenge, DLC over DLC or splitting the game in parts.
Too bad the game itself didn't live up to the epicness/quality of that Opening. And I say that as someone who likes to replay FF8 every now and then, but it's one of the weakest of the series, plotwise and character-wise, imo.

You have no idea how mindblowing this opening scene was when I saw it all the way back in the year 2000... I skipped VII (I did not know any better!) and, at the time, my gaming diet consisted of mascot plataformers, racing games, the occasional fighting and sports games... I had no idea just how grand, immersive and profound games could be. I already had an inkling because I had played Resident Evil 2 and my cousin showed me Metal Gear, but this... Was something else. It was Star Wars, Titanic, Saving Private Ryan... Even Harry Potter before I knew what that was. It was all I didn't know a videogame could be. And I never looked back.
No disrespect to "Final Fantasy VII" but if that was to happen, Square negotiating a deal with Sony to have the remake + PS5 in a bundle, sales will break multiple records.
My favorite moment from this game has to be the Ragnarok Cockpit scene. Rinoa and Squall being able to relax after the Propagators and 'Eyes On Me' kicking in as they realize they're getting home. Absolutely beautiful.
I’ll be honest I never played FF7 but I have the same kind of nostalgic respect for FF8. Rinoa was my Aerith, squall was my cloud, and even knowing what I know now I still consider the two as having the superior love story. And I vocally hate love stories. But ultimately keep your buster sword I’m a connoisseur. Hand me a gunblade!
I remember having the demo that came with Brave Fencer Musashi and playing it pretty much once a day until the game actually came out. I remember getting to the part of the game that the demo covered and feeling like such a bad ass pro. So many more great moments in this game, and this is the game that turned me into a completionist in all my future games as I did everything in this game.
*Final Fantasy 8/VIII* has always been a part of my Childhood. The characters, the Music, the Brilliant Cutscenes, the designs, the drama, you name it. This definitely takes me back. This deserves to have a Remake!
Final Fantasy 8 is my favorite game in this storied franchise and I'm here to pay my respects. Not because it's a perfect game... but to me what makes the Final Fantasy series great, is creating worlds that can't exist anywhere else, in any other medium. Final Fantasy 8 has a world like no other and it's characters are so special to me. Even when they or their actions don't feel necessary to the overarching plot-line, the characters have a mundane beauty about them that makes them feel real. But for me, the absolute moment when I knew this was my favorite game, is a certain line that Kiros says in Ragnarok (no spoilers). It's such a subtle powerful moment that glues the whole game together. I LOVE FF8 SO MUCH 💙
I'm almost to the Ragnarok ship a little past Esthar too! Playing with on the Steam deck with 3x speed is so amazing and makes Carding monsters way more fun. It only took about 50ish hours to get to disk 3. This game is basically my teenage yrs.

Still one of the best openings in any video game and one of the best Final Fantasy games ever! I love the look of the original characters over the remaster. The remaster messed up the eyes in my opinion. Original characters eyes looked more mysterious and gave them a bit exoticness to them whereas on the remaster made them look like a boy band or something. PLEASE GIVE US A FINAL FANTASY VIII REMAKE!!!!!!!! 🙏 PLEASE bring back that original look of the characters! 🙏

Words will never describe the joy, the emotions and the feelings that this FMV has for me... After so many years... This is still the one FMV from FF that still sends me goosebumps down my spine. Final Fantasy VIII is one of my absolute favourite things ever.... And that will never change. Maybe one day we'll have the remake some of us crave for, but until then... May we cherish this special masterpiece forever.
many years ago I got a mp4 at a arcade’s machine, there was a video saved by default in it and it was this opening movie. I was a kid and had no idea what final fantasy was, but I immediately fell in love with the visuals. months later I started playing FFX and kingdom hearts, so many good memories ❤️
I remember this game i used to play daily after my work.. Its really one of the best sequels ever... Mostly the fight music track , the hero , tons of hidden secrets in-game and the epic , heroic story events... I really enjoyed this game !!! Bravo
Cool little details: When Seifer brings the gunblade down to slice Squall's face, the "thunder" sound is a gunshot. And if you slow it down and frame-by-frame it, you can see a bullet casing eject from the gunblade (The wind up starts around 2:40)
Ironically I've been doing a replay of this! This was my first Final Fantasy game back in the day and I was obsessed, once I had the money I bought myself 7.
Final Fantasy 8 and 9 are my all time favorite Final Fantasy's... My favorite Moment in 8... This was my first introduction to FF series back in the days. And the days definitely were rough for me, but as kid with PS1 and FFVIII nothing was impossible. Loved the intro, loved the music, the atmosphere and the story, even though for a kid it was pretty convoluted plus I played it translated to my region language so definitely had a different experience than everyone else I would dare to say. At the times I thought the game was pretty hard as well, considering you had to be already familiar with FF universe by now, but boi oh boi did I had a blast to play it on my own terms. Happy 25th Anniversary FFVIII. Squall you da lad that me wanted to be someday in some timeline. Thanks Square for not forgetting this game.
I still fondly remember watching this as a 4th disc with FF7 that a friend of mine owned. Considering the games of the time were the likes of Tomb Raider, Crash bandicoot and Spyro, this FMV absolutely blew my mind. 1998 and on the PSX I still think it looks amazing.

Oh my GOD! Are you finally remaking my favorite?! I know remakes are a giant undertaking, but it would mean the world to me to see this story told with the same amount of emotional depth with which you are retelling ff7.
My first Final Fantasy as a child was 7 and will forever be my favourite. When I saw FF8 being advertised, I could not believe there leap in the quality of the cutscenes. Such an awesome game, great soundtrack, great visuals and such an emotional rollercoaster. I was excited to see they had remastered it but was disappointed at how Squall looked, he didn't look closer to his FMV appearances, rather more like a different character. If a remake is done, I really hope they would keep characters in line with how they actually look like in the FMV, albeit more realistic of course.
Oh, it was your first? This was my mom's first Final Fantasy game too! She's not too into Final Fantasy, but she still remembers liking the story and characters of this game, and even though she got very close to the ending, she never actually finished it... HOWEVER! I am considering potentially getting the Remastered version on PS4, so I can go through the same journey my mom did 25 years ago, and even actually finish it so my mom can finally see the Final Boss and the Ending for herself after 25 years.
This game needs a remake more than every single FF game. The type of story and sarcasm some characters have make more sense if voice acted with facial animations. This game is my dream come true

I'm replaying the game now just this past week. I'm just out of Esthar and heading east! I love this game and its music and Triple Triad.

Well to be fair that duel was in the very beginning, and Squall is still a SeeD cadet.

My first Final Fantasy as a child was 7 and will forever be my favourite. When I saw FF8 being advertised, I could not believe there leap in the quality of the cutscenes. Such an awesome game, great soundtrack, great visuals and such an emotional rollercoaster.
I was excited to see they had remastered it but was disappointed at how Squall looked, he didn't look closer to his FMV appearances, rather more like a different character.
If a remake is done, I really hope they would keep characters in line with how they actually look like in the FMV, albeit more realistic of course.

This game is probably the most well known love story game. Once "Eyes on Me" plays, everyone gets the feeling.
This was my first FF title, and I've been hooked ever since. One of the best games, def deserves a remake!!🤩
Oh, it was your first? This was my mom's first Final Fantasy game too! She's not too into Final Fantasy, but she still remembers liking the story and characters of this game, and even though she got very close to the ending, she never actually finished it...
HOWEVER! I am considering potentially getting the Remastered version on PS4, so I can go through the same journey my mom did 25 years ago, and even actually finish it so my mom can finally see the Final Boss and the Ending for herself after 25 years.
Other games have made me emotional, but nothing beats FF8 for me, to this day. That smile at the end, there is a way out, I cant handle it.

This game needs a remake more than every single FF game. The type of story and sarcasm some characters have make more sense if voice acted with facial animations. This game is my dream come true
