    I was looking for a video on the stretch reflex but none of them really show as this does, you always have the best content for practical improvements. Thank you for all you do!

    Hey Coach, I was wondering what weight would be good for beginners and what would also be good for increasing velocity.

    • @coachhalley
      @coachhalley  9 місяців тому

      400g is a good start but sometimes that weight can result in a baseball style throw. I like a progression up to 800g for beginners then heavier with more advanced throwers with better javelin technique. I’ve used as light as tennis balls as well. Increased velocity will happen over time with all weights when better technique and physical fitness is acquired.

    Coach Halley, in throws like these with no momentum I can hit these positions and use pretension but I am unable to utilize my body in my full throws and I always lift my right foot before release. How can I keep my non block leg grounded and use it in my full throws?

      Rearward lean moving into the block might be the trick. The other is posture during your impulse step/crossover. Two videos to help: Javelin Throw Timing - Throwing Sequence and delivery

    What ball did you use to throw??

    • @coachhalley
      @coachhalley  10 місяців тому

      I used an 800g javelin ball. I will switch between weights depending on the drill I’m doing or what my focus is on.

      Thanks! Is that more efficient than using a tennis ball? I usually use tennis balls or a bigger ball that is about 600 g. But I feel like my 600 gram ball isn’t as efficient because it’s so big it messes up my grip

    • @coachhalley

      @@marilavigneIs40-31 different weight can feel different on the body and can also emphasize different aspects of the throwing technique. A heavier for slower movements and lighter for faster movements. A tennis ball is just fine for building volume of throws and focus on other technical areas without the fear of a missed throw and causing injury.

      Life of a track coach I suppose. During the regular season I’m swamped and no time for much. Once the season is done, I try to do things I couldn’t do during the season. Mostly family time. Glad to be back though!
