I love those type of videos, u can clearly appreciate to make the difference between good riders, riders, and someone who just know how to stay on the back of a horse and destroy his mouth or slap him or put him in dangerin order to know *how to ride* and respect the safety principe
if i tried that my horse would trip and fall within .2 seconds 🤦♀️ that bareback rider though, props for the bravery but props taken away for the unnecessary whipping
Was watching a movie about cross country horse racing and decided to look it up to see if people still do it. WOW! Was I surprised. This was awesome, fun, and educational to watch. Congrats on your win and I think you are a great horsewoman.
That is the coolest thing I've ever seen, the guy going bareback was bloody brave (hope the guy that fell off was ok!) I wish I could race in that but my thoroughbred didn't make it to the race track for a reason lol

Awful....This just how most of the pikeys seem to treat their horses over here!On the positive side the winner was given a nice patient calm ride,the others never had a prayer of getting home being abused like that from the very get go.....Mind you sitting on TB helps even if it is aged!!
Many decades ago...I competed in the Race..slightly diff route..spectator only nOw..tho. Just wanted to say THANK U.. Felt the Rush... was as Good as Being IN the Race...Thanks Sapphire..& Rusty.!!!

Agreed, my previous horse was a little bush pony the locals rode from Opotiki and they really didn't treat him well at all😔 Instead of getting a proper bit and bridle for him they just used some bale twine and wire as a bit and bridle and almost cut his tounge off 😔 as well as shove him in some random paddock after they would take him for a gallop down the beach. I know ot everyone does this but its a shame to see such good horses treated like that. Well done btw, I'd love to do that race, I've been up and seen it before but it would be a total mission getting my boy and I there all the way from the Bey of plenty

Those island horses inch per inch are fast, great competitors for their size, very game horses with such heavy burdens. The one decided better without not a bad idea till learned some positive encouragement rather than slapping an already full-out running horse, that makes no sense.. The thoroughbred took it all in gentlemanly stride.
Look I ride with a wip if I’m going into a cop or a rodeo but I don’t use the wip you should not be wiping the hel out of the horse. How would you like it if someone was sitting on your back and wiping you it would not be nice
@@SapphireOConnell They needed to look closer, clearly times showed both your hands with reins, no whip present. Great ride, would of perfect display of horsemanship had the drip of mud not gotten on the lens, still could see around much of the time. thx for posting.👍🖒
@@SapphireOConnell ; Yes, definitely a case of holding your horse back rather than urging forward, and of course don't want to bruise you're competitors pride to much...lol, after all it's their home turf. I watch this video everytime I need a thrilling encounter., set free a 'pic me up' exciting run.👏🖒👍
