Though I think Matt makes some good points, I think he misses the business model Nintendo works off of. They don’t consider their competitors, they want to provide a unique experience. They can’t do that if they don’t have control over the hardware.
Basically what Sony does as neither Sony or Nintendo would survive without the hardware side, Microsoft always been about software thats why gamepass being on everything is so important to them.
Also why would they go third party? If their games are good enough for people to buy a whole console for, they have no reason not to keep them exclusive
@@CallMeVidd I doubt that hardware sales make them more money than selling game on other platforms would. It's possible that they're raking in the money from licensing fees and eshop cuts though.
The dock on the switch is my single most favorite thing about it. Being able to set up a handheld device at a tv and play it like a wii with my family and friends is something that shouldn't be overlooked.
2:46 we actually did get a lot. It’s called more games Matt. If Nintendo did what they did before, and made a home console and a handheld separate, that would mean their development studios would be split up. They made a conscious effort to merge their handheld and home console teams and make a hybrid console. And if you don’t want the Switch docked good news. They make handheld only options. See Matt, Nintendo has your back. But wait! You have a Switch?! Are you secretly a Mario lover?
Lol, Matt complaining about lack of performance when Nintendo is about to sell 10 million more units this holiday, sorry it's the software that sells the system, not the system itself.
Matt always shit on Nintendo for the sake of shitting on Nintendo. And he always raises his voice on Austin like a freaking man-child. Not saying what he says is 100% bullshit, but he debates like an immature child. When I was 15 years old, I and my classmates had more civilised debates than anything Matt ever uttered in these. And while I do own a Nintendo Switch, I also own a PS5 and Xbox Series X, so I'm not saying all this to defend Nintendo.
Nintendo should ally with Valve. Have valve lend their store nintendo puts all their titles available there. And they could work together towards a hand held console that destroys the market. Pretty much it be the console to get you have like 97% all game at your hands at that moment. Plusssssssss steam discount amd sales will just hook people up easy.
It’s clear Matt has no understanding of what Nintendo is as a company. Though they technically occupy the same space, they aren’t competing with Microsoft or Sony or valve, in the same way Apple wasn’t “competing” with Microsoft with Mac. For Nintendo, power really is a secondary consideration and really a mechanism to realize their quirky way to play. They are first and foremost about creating a unique experience. I think after the failure of the Wii U, they’ve learned that strong third party support is necessary to finance their Willy Wonka style vision, but their first party focus is always about finding new and different ways to interact with the games. I personally don’t think the new console will be just a hardware upgrade. I do think there will be some new way to play or interact with their upcoming games. Matt couldn’t be more wrong about this.
@@JAFOpty First party Nintendo games oftentimes involve alternative or extra input methods. Whether or not 3rd party devs choose to utilize them is not the point.
@@JAFOpty Not to mention being the first mainstream gaming company to marry the portability of a handheld and a stationary console. That, in and of itself, was an innovation and novel experience that basically all switch games, first and third party alike, utilize. Before Switch, the Wii U had the gamepad, which, again, was a unique experience that was often utilized by third party devs. The problem there is that Wii U suffered from poor marketing and couldn’t gain any traction. Ultimately, even by Nintendo’s own statements, their goal is to create new ways to play, and that is evident throughout their history.
Thats exactly what i was thinking, if nintendo put their games in other platforms it won't have the same feel, playing in a nintendo console is an experience of its own. Matt is wrong.
I didn't upgrade my iphone 14 pro max beacuse of the games I own a PC I did it cause I wanted to but still in terms of competition they have it and so does Nintendo I play PC and to me it feels like all consoles are obsolete even phones in terms of gaming!
Nintendo buyers are not the run of the mill demographic. The Switch 2 may not drive the numbers they’re hoping for. A lot of the Nintendo crowd is just satisfied with good enough. Nintendo will probably push games exclusive to the Switch 2 to force their consumer base to upgrade. That could backfire as it did with the Wii U.
If Nintendo can future proof the hardware just enough, the incentive to developers to make their games work is in Nintendos sales figures. It’s a case of finding that sweet spot. I’m not too bothered about specs these days. It all just feeds into our tech/fomo culture, used by marketing departments to make us feel like perfectly good hardware is worthless.
Yea that's the thing, new tech even for PC's are never fully realized in terms of usage of "cutting edge" features or upgrades until like 2 or 3 years' time at least, because the majority of the user bases don't have specs in the proximity of new lines of CPU's and GPU's, that a lot of developers just overlook them until the number of players with high enough specs increases.
@@Mattriarcwatcha talkin about? There's a bunch of pc games that utilize high end hardware fully, some murder even my rtx 4080, dlss 3.0 which is only on that line of cards too is already seeing fairly widespread usage when it comes to triple a games
Not really sure what fomo you're talking about I just think cool tech is cool, not like that tech is limited time or won't be there anymore in 5 years anyway
All the hate and nonsense, but Nintendo is the ONLY company that consistently releases hardware that isn't super expensive. I know you millionaire UA-camrs can afford to buy $500 consoles just to smash them for Likes, but the rest of us can appreciate being able to get a new console and a few games for a reasonable amount of money.
@@IslamistSocialist371 I Agree, game prices are out of control straight across the board. I was talking only about whether Nintendo should continue making hardware.
Nintendo has already proven that high performance hardware doesn't matter to them or the fans. Rather that's shown from the GameCube to the Wii using basically the same hardware or the switch itself having not gotten a pro version. Why is everyone thinking Nintendo is going to start caring now (with things like 4k and the screen to produce that and the battery to carry that) at the cost of a 500, 600 dollar system?
Sony were the first to prove this with the N64 being far stronger than the more successful PS and the PS2 being notoriously weak. Nintendo only followed suit by improving software over hardware, really gamers did this to ourselves choosing games(go figure) over hardware power.
They got a reason, getting more 3rd parties into their system, currently 50% of the software sold on switch are third party games, the highest it has ever been, and nintendo knows a console needs them too to success, i see them making a strong hybrid console, but they won't be stupidly focused on just graphics graphics and more graphics, they will take advantage of it, but their own manners to make games will be the same as now
Matt does realize that Nintendo are the most successful console hardware company of the 21st century, right? They've sold over 500 million units of hardware since 2000 which is more than even Sony who is the closest competitor at around 495 million. So, I'm really confused why a company that is the most successful at selling console hardware should bow out and just make software for it's competitors. That's nonsensical. Nintendo is most definitely a hardware company and are literally numerically better at it than everyone else excluding Sony who is pretty much right there with them but you wouldn't tell Sony to go be a software only company, would you? because that would be silly.
@@garrusvakarian8709that’s not what they meant at all They meant in complete total of console sales since 2000 Aka all consoles that released since then
@@garrusvakarian8709 hahaha, that’s ridiculous. Nintendo is outselling Microsoft with the switch against the xbox one and series x/s combined, the wii outsold the Xbox 360, only the original xbox has outsold Nintendo in a generation against the GameCube and that was only by 3 million units. Not to mention gameboy advance, DS and 3DS sales ontop of all that outsold Microsoft everytime too.
The switch is the one ‘console’ I have besides my PC because of the dock and ease of use. Mario Kart and Smash bros are amazing party games and play better multiplayer on a big TV with real controllers for large groups and families and then handheld mode is great for just playing by myself. I very much use the docking capability. Also my bad eyes appreciate even single player games on a larger screen when I’m at home.
Problem is if switch manges to have ray tracing on. More power = less battery life. And the key factor for Nintendo has the best battery life on their switch models.
I think Nintendo would find a way to get good battery life on this console, like the switch at launch had like and average of ~6 hours of battery life, and newer models that can have up to 9~ hours, I would expect to see something like 7-8~ish hours, to stay competitive, but tbh they really only need like 5~ish hours to stay competitive with the rog ally or steam deck, my only hope is that there is still modding opportunity like with the launch switch
The market between the switch and steamdeck and other handheld pcs is totally different. PC gamer v Nintendo gamer. Kids love the switch, Mario, Mario Kart, Zelda etc.
I find it surprising that gamers forget that there are games running above 900p 60fps on the current switch consoles right now metroid prime remastered is an example according to digital foundrys video on metroid prime remastered comparison video.
yeah but thats just a remaster of a gamecube game. not that impressive to me tbh. i've played ps3 games that looked way better than switch games and hit a locked 60 fps
My main issue with Nintendo doesnt handle digital purchases well if they do new hardware i shouldn't have to buy the same game twice for the same platform example on pc i buy a game i still have it i dont need to repurchase it .
Since the days of the NX rumors of almost a decade ago, I've gone back and forth on my opinion about an external GPU for these kinds of systems. As of now, my opinion is: I want it. Reasons being, when I buy a portable device I want to get all the performance it has in its handheld form (like the Steam Deck) and anyone who buys a Switch but only plays it as a portable device, then you paid for performance you can't reach unless you hack it. So give me a Switch 2 that has all the performance it can reach, and the only way it can get more it through an external dock booster.
Matt, let me just make this simple. They want to do their own thing. Period. They don’t care what everybody else is doing. They’ll do what they want to do. Whether it works out for them or not
I've had a Switch for 4 years and have played it probably 95% in docked mode. I'm in the vast minority probably but if you don't think families wanna enjoy Nintendo games from the comfort of their couch I have a bridge to sell you. If Nintendo released a Switch successor console with backwards compatibility and PS4 level performance or higher, I'd buy it tomorrow. I have a sneaking suspicion they know this.
Nintendo is a family console. It is made for gaming babies like me and old geezers like my mom. I feel like Nintendo will never fail as long as there’s people like me and my mom. I’m not a hardcore gamer and I don’t care about high performance, graphics or any or the stuff Matt was going on about. I play games like Animal Crossing, The Sims, Just Dance, and Disney Dreamlight Valley. Matt is failing to understand people like me are what Nintendo would call a “family” audience. He’s going on and on about playing games on several platforms. Nintendo makes THEIR OWN games, PlayStation and Xbox do big and I don’t own either console because they are TOO EXPENSIVE, the games are not my cup of tea and also are TOO expensive. Nintendo players are the type of people to buy their kids a console with one game and never buy another one again because of the cost of games. That was my life as a kid. I had a handful of games and played mostly demos and I was happy. If I want a AAA gaming experience then I’ll just hop in PC and play those more demanding games. Like BFFR why the hell would I look like buying a $500-$600 console with all those pointless features to play TOMODACHI LIFE OR OVERCOOKED 😂😂😂😂.
Matt's take is crazy. Nintendo is bad for the industry? wow. They march to the beat of their own drums. They aren't in a video games arms race with Sony and Microsoft, They make games and have consoles that can run them. Sure, they are not as powerful as other current gen consoles but often times, you dont need to. They just need enough juice to make the games enjoyable (well, sadly, some of their previous games didnt really run that smooth)
I think you missed his point. Nintendo released an underpowered console from the start to save a buck. The nvidia chip in the switch was basically obsolete when switch launched. Yes, hardware is not the biggest reason people buy Nintendo but it has caused major problems. Eg, Tears of the kingdom, their own first party title runs slow because the hardware can't keep up with the requirements of modern games. The low specs also stop publishers from releasing games on the switch. Just look at the Mortal Kombat issues recently with how bad the switch version had to be just to be playable. Nintendo sell these underspec units, which means the only games you end up buying are first party nintendo games and anything else you're forced to play on xbox/ps/pc to avoid terrible graphics, sub 20 fps frame rates and cut down versions of games.
@@IceBlueLugia Because its deliberately anti competitive. You buy their consoles and 2-3 years after launch most third parties won't publish on their console because of the hardware constraints, so you're left with Nintendo only games. I didn't say its bad for the industry, its bad for the consumer. Parents buy a Nintendo for their kid and they're forced to buy another console a few years later because there's no titles.
I gotta say, my eyes really glaze over every time matt talks about nintendo. It's not that nintendo is unimpeachable or anything it just doesn't sound like he's thinking very hard about what he's saying
Switch buyers are a completely different market from Steam deck buyers. Don’t get me wrong Nintendo should step up their hardware but it’s the user experience and software that is more important for them.
It's always weird when people who aren't more well versed on stuff speak about it. "They didn't put great stuff into the Nintendo Switch IN 2017" In 2017, when Nintendo Switch launched, it was literally the most powerful dedicated video game handheld in the entire world. There WASN'T better tech to put inside it - it was already using what was, at the time, the best technology for the given job. Companies weren't developing dedicated handheld gaming chips back then.
I think the issue with nintendo is that they gave the switch so many features that they don't use in their main games, like Joy cons, not all games have the motion controls to use the joy cons, they gave it a touch screen, but most games don't use the touch screen, the switch has gyro controls but most games don't use it. Like all these features are unique things that can justify why you want a switch over a steam deck or something like that, but nintendo doesn't use them. As for the dock the dock should have been used to upgrade the switches's power by docking it you get better graphics, better frame rates and the like, cause the dock could have its own graphics card and fan, but nope it does nothing. The main edge that the switch still has is price, its by far the cheapest of the big hand helds, but its getting too weak to run most games already. If nintendo actually wants to compete and justify the existance of a switch 2, they have gotta up the power by alot, and make any unique features that the switch 2 has be the main selling point, so that they will have games that you can't just port to a pc.
I agree wholeheartedly. What Nintendo needs to do is take what did work from this generation and take those plus a huge power boost and implement those and one new feature (that they utilize well) into the "Switch 2". If they can keep the portability and provide more power and better graphics (while keeping backwards compatibility) they can continue their winning streak.
You mention those features as something making switch superior but really most of those are in the steam deck too or are inconsequential. I'd take trackpads and backbuttons over an ir sensor and detachable controllers any day.
Dock does that, while docked switch can use go at full tdp and that increases perfomance, but if you mean the dock literally boosting the console then it will never happen, ppl say something like that and call it day, but it would expensive as hell, hard to program and it would need a big ass cooling system
@@IceYetiWins I'm not saying superior i'm saying unique, no other hand held has features like this, lets say you are playing a game like ring fit, or just dance, things that are designed around the motion controls, no matter what you can't easily create a steam deck port. Sure the steam deck has gyro controls and a touchscreen, but they are as if not more underused than the switches's version, because games on the steamdeck are even less designed around them, than the switch. Nintendo can't compete in power, or is unlikely to compete in power department, so they have to realize that aside from ips their consoles are famed for their novelty and uniqueness.
@@kr555wizard yes but for something like the switch, while yes there are some games like ring fit or just dance, the vast majority are typical games that could be ported very easily to steam deck. And their biggest ips, like Mario and Zelda, are almost always very typical control schemes. When they deviate from that, like Zelda skyward sword, we all know how fans react to it.
The thing about graphical upscaling is Nintendo optimizes their shit for minimum file size, even if they don't improve graphics much they could optimize a fucking potato into a current switch game while expanding possibilities like Multiplayer numbers or game size with less cartridge size. You don't need Unreal 5 to play a better Tetris, and there will always be a broad game-base with that level of complexity. If anything the only good point in the video is maybe Nintendo should partner with Samsung or some other phone company to make a pseudo-phone for kids with larger size, communications technology and Switch compatibility.
Matt is just flat wrong. And Nintendo is gonna keep their stranglehold on their hardware because it's fun to own. The game are fun to play yes, and they sell huge amounts of software software AND hardware because Nintendo makes it fun. I guarantee almost every Nintendo pirate owns a switch, if not two or more. And they're making sooo much money selling switches... lite, oled, special editions of all of these system variants... to think they would just stop because you think a steamdeck is better at playing their games is ridiculous.
“7 years behind, everyone else is miles ahead of what Nintendo is capable of doing.” Stops, thinks, looks back at FTC court leak from Microsoft, reads Nintendo has half the global sales revenue but triple the profits of Sony. Laughs at this video. Nintendo doesn’t have to give you better hardware to sell and make more money than Sony.
@@garrusvakarian8709 lol @ the best hardware in the world. Sony has some products that are the best in the world, but by no means are all of their products even close to the best. In fact I’d say most Sony electronics are mediocre products. The PS5 is a mediocre computer with less functionality. I didn’t prove your narrative. Nintendo makes more money than PlayStation with half the revenue. Sure you want to make the argument they’d make more money if they went with someone else’s hardware fine. They’re more than capable of making another plastic box to compete with Sony and Microsoft in gaming. They don’t need to do this because their customers buy their stuff.
I enjoy Nintendo hardware, gaming is about fun experiences and they almost always deliver. Do I wish they would improve their eshop and online play?…Absolutely, but their hardware is always cool and good build quality. They do need to get better at keeping up with current gen hardware specs in their systems though now that the steam deck and ROG Ally exist or they run the risk of losing tons of third party support…again.
Nintendo doesn’t need to be crazy, they just need to future proof the system. If they can master PS4 level graphics and performance then it’ll be able to play any game for the next 7 years. If I’m being honest, switch 1 didn’t even feel stronger than the Xbox 360
The costs of the nintendo switch models have never made sense to me, I grew up with and still love older nintendo consoles and most gameboys up until the DS as well as most of their games but they have always been kinda nuts with game prices. I mean ok, you can get legend of zelda edition of switch oled for around $360 I guess, but then what ? Nearly every other game seems to average at about $50 so if you buy one extra game like smash bros then it is already more expensive than a steam deck, a device where great games can be grabbed for free / a few $ in sales / bundles / just going through your back catalogue of great games that you already own ? After people have a nice collection of switch games and have replaced the joycons a few times then how much exactly are they paying in reality ?. All for what ?... a completely locked down system run by one of the most sue happy weird anti consumer companies on the planet 🤷♂🤦♂
Nintendo would never give up control of its games and give a cut to some other store, also people buy switches for ease of use, little Timmy wants to play mario kart not mess around in the settings for 20 minutes to get the game to run
It would be great to see some graphical improvements in the Pokemon games, especially since the core gameplay is fairly simple. Seriously, why does Sun and Moon look better than Scarlet and Violet.
honestly forget the graphics (even though they could use a boost), they need to just have stable 60 FPS for games lol Pokemon S/V looked like a slideshow at time with overworld effects going on
@@Mattriarc It just looked unfinished, and I picked it up after the game breaking bugs that plagued it's release were patched. @@goshdarnchicken fair, definitely suffered from baroned-ness more than most other pokemon games. I personally didn't have glitches, but I've definitely seen more than enough of them at launch
I think the problem really comes from the fact that they're taking what was a strictly portable game and making it a home console release. The market for the 3ds was completely different, not to mention the price increase for the game itself. (Though that might just be inflation, I don't know enough about it to be sure)
It didn't. Anytime they zoomed on a face it looked like Minecraft. There was always much less happening. Animations weren't better and frames dropped in double battles when too many pokemon flapped their wings.
LoL... Matt says that Nintendo is a monopoly because you can't play their games on PC... And then pulls out an IPhone (that's literally becoming a monopoly, and by his standards allready is)
Low key agree with Matt but also if they sellin units then can’t really argue with that. People gonna buy it cause they don’t know they can get WAY better hardware for cheaper.
The switch is 349 though, decent performance and battery for that price with Oled. What hardware you talking about thats hittin them levels? I have a Deck but ima keep it real, its dead in like a hr give or take, the Nintendo lasting way longer for on the go purposes. Honestly if im hopping on a plane, im taking my gaming laptop before the deck, because both gonna need a wall eventually but atleast i get more power and gaming versatility with the laptop. PS. The deck is also starting to show its age and at a faster rate than The Switch. And some games that SHOULD just work on the Deck dont for whatever reason, Metal Gear solid collection just dropped, doesnt even run on the Deck, bought it on switch it boots up runs great, looks good and it just works with no effort on my part. Just sayin
I still play on my switch and I own a steam deck and an xbox so this notion of it needing to keep up with modern hardware is misleading. It definitely needs a spec bump so that 3rd party developers won't shun the system entirely, but it mainly just has to keep a stable fps, curb load times, and contain content parity with the other versions. It doesn't need ray tracing, 4K oled screen, 200fps with all graphics settings maxed out imo.
matt kind wants to have his cake and eat it too. saying you dont even need to own an xbox to play their games while not mentioning how much that is actually hurting their console sales and physical media sales is the main reason they are in last place compared to the other gaming competitors
Lmao Matt that’s wishful thinking. They work and pay their employees good money to create these games. It is their product and their right to release it on their hardware. They don’t need to branch off or do other stuff. Us as the consumer, if you want to play those games, we’ll then you have to buy the hardware that allows you to play. You can also choose to not buy them if you disagree with Nintendo’s methods.
Matt thinks like a tech nerd, the problem with that mindset its not being like that but thinking everyone is, the majority of ppl don't want to tweak settings for like 1/2 hour to play their games, and most of them don't care about the hardware but the games, while i think Nintendo will make a strong console (to improve their own games and get even more games), the reality is, power without software its like a big ass mansion to just hold one person, completely useless, that's why Nintendo has been on the game for so long
I feel Nintendo played a smart game long term of not allowing many titles be on their console and theirs as well. Im feeling they will release a powerful switch because it will open the path for all studios to have an easier chance making the port. So imagine a switch that can handle all current games on maybe 1080p? 60fps. I dont need 4k on the go imo i rather 1080p smooth and solid. Im eager to see how Nintendo surprises us. So far they are the only one making fun consoles and making us eager for them. I never felt any hype for ps5 nor xbox and i got a ps5 and i feel it aint worth much. Almost all is ps4 or earlier titles and very few ps5 game that are exclusive or worth buying.
When Matt said no one ever docks switch I immediately thought of games that are only played on dock like Mario party, Smash bros, and Mario Kart (with friends)
Everybody: The Switch 2 doesn't need to be powerful since all the games aren't demanding. Also Everybody: Pokemon won't run on the Switch with a decent frame rate. They need to update the Switch.
I'm just here to read all the pseudo Nintendo business analysts just parroting what Nintendo says about themselves in the comments sections. In regards to the argument console processing power, understandable that Nintendo doesn't need to have the most cutting-edge up-to-date processing power. But for goodness sake stop giving us decades old performance. Nearly every game on the switch operated with low FPS and stutters. Smooth 60fps should absolutely be the standard.
Am I the only weirdo here that only ever played their switch in docked mode? The ergonomics for the switch and switch lite are so bad that I couldn't physically play them comfortably in handheld mode so I was forced to always sit on my couch and play in docked mode. Which I was fine with because I got better graphics anyways.
Though Matt has some valid points, that would require Nintendo to make their games available on other platforms. There isn’t a world where Nintendo would do that. Plus I think Nintendo has proven time and again that the software will be able to sell plenty of hardware, so yeah people will keep buying Nintendo consoles no matter what. And Nintendo has always been both a hardware and software company, one that gives players unique gameplay experiences with their controllers and consoles (albeit being a swing and a miss sometimes). That’s their whole business model. That is why I agree with Austin. Nintendo just has to give the Switch 2 the same or almost the same power as the Steam Deck and that will put them in a great spot. They already have something great again, they just have to stick with it and definitively call it the Switch 2 so people know it’s a true successor and they won’t have another Wii U launch situation.
Matt feels like he's from a different universe whenever he tried to talk about Nintendo. The Switch outsold the PS4 in half the time and is the highest selling current console yet he says they should stop making hardware lol. Its frankly delusional. Also none of these new handheld PCs are a real threat to the switch simply because they dont have the same appeal for the casual market as the switch. The switch 2 will sell like hot cakes assuming its a direct upgrade without any weird nintendo gimmicks,

Switch is weak, but let's not forget that it's the strongest handheld games console ever. (Steam Deck/ROG Ally are portable PCs, not dedicated systems with their own games.) I know 720P 30 fps is mediocre, but we loved the PS Vita with it's 540P 20 - 30fps, and understood that battery power and legal thermal thresholds are a handhelds limitation that can't be ignored. Say what you will about it, but we didn't expect PS4 level performance from the Vita, we can't expect PS5/XSX level performance from the Switch successor, in tandem with big enough battery life to not be tethered to a wall 24/7.

I still take my switch off the dock and play some Bayonetta on a family trip to WEREVER? little charge and I can play muliplayer with my cuzzons. YA switch is awesome.
I don't think Nintendo is going to get out of the hardware business. They're too much like Apple, they like to control everything. If we start seeing their games on PC one day like Sony is doing now (which if they did, they'd probably make more money and would limit some would-be pirates), then maybe, but until then, they will still make hardware, and most likely continue to sell it. Back in the 90s, it was about the bits and graphics, nowadays it's about the performance AND graphics, and Nintendo generally just likes to make games their own way. I'm just hoping for Switch 2 to be 1080p screen and dock 4k capable. iGPU? Maybe, they did do the N64 expansion pack back in the day, so anything is possible. They also probably want to keep the slimmer form factor and decent battery life, which means it will run ARM again. The PC gaming handhelds are all x86 based, which is not near as efficient as far as battery and heat. There's still a place for something like the switch, and big N knows that.
@@l0rdpelvis When uneducated people think that companies sell for their market cap lmao. ABK market cap was way less than 70Bn. Right now with its theme parks and movie studio/movies, they are worth close to 100Bn. Do you even know what their IPs alone would sell for?
switch 2 will likely keep me from buying a steam deck or anything like it. Unless they go wildly in the wrong direction switch 2 will sell super well. Nintendo is 100% a hardware company. They are the reason steam deck and ally even exist. They are better in only SOME ways and came out WAY after using nintendos ideas... If you own an iphone, news flash, they are even worse than Nintendo.
We'll see how it plays out. If you put a Switch up against any Gamepass (or Xcloud) device, it's like looking at whatever car you bought 5 years ago against the newest model Tesla. Nintendo is constantly innovating but is starting to drag its feet on basic technologies so much that it's further narrowing its audience.
Here is my issue, I honeslty feel like if a game is 1080p at 60 fps is fine, on a small screen there isnt much of a diffrence with full hd and 2k gaming, now on a tv screen there is where it becomes more complicated. because for the screen size that most tvs are now you do honeslty need more resolution but at that point you honeslty have to choose your poisen a handheld system with current tec will not look as good as a ps5 or xbox sx unless you want to play for only 20min handeld lol. thats the same reason I dont get the steam deck, your playing games on the Steamdeck at low to medium graphics anyway and to all the other handhelds that arnt switch or steam deck, I bet they wont be supported 3 years from now, I believe steam will keep updated there steam deck and get new revision of it because of the steam store.
Ps5 and xbox also play at low to medium settings so no change there but the consoles are able to do so at higher resolutions than the steam deck and so look better. If only we could get a device that's got the size and battery life of the switch alongside the performance of a series s xbox.
@@fidelisitor8953same, I feel like 4K handheld would be too much for Nintendo to handle. Give me a 1080/60 handheld with a 2k/60 docked would be fine to be honest.
I don't even care about Nintendo games on the Switch, I only got it because it's the best place to collect indie games in physical form. And certain multiplatform games like Disgaea just make more sense to play in portable form than on TV, but again, I want them on physical media so Steam Deck is a no-go.
Yes there are handhelds that have more power. But none of them work as well as the switch when it comes to pairing controllers with it and just launching games without any issues or problems. The switch does this effortlessly, and the Switch does TV mode docking way better than any of these other consoles. I literally still get the no audio bug (where audio just literally dies for a few seconds randomly on random intervals for no good reason) on my Steam Deck Dock, and it is, for some reason from time a time, a pain the ass for my TV to recognize the dock to the point where I have to unplug/replug it from the power source. Not to mention that controllers pair to the Switch's propietary frequency as opposed to Bluetooth which can disconnect from time to time, and makes it a giant drag when using Retroarch.
My thoughts is Matt needs to stop trying to tell these companies to do cloud gaming and let them do their thing. Nintendo is doing fine. Let them cook.
I would 1000% rather play my Nintendo games on PC or Xbox. Would I still buy a Switch for on the go gaming? Yes. But I think these games would look miles better and be more fun on modern hardware.
I barely got a Nintendo Switch and this I see this video a few days later lmao. I'm going to buy whatever comes after this Switch from Nintendo within a year or release. I always just played Playstation but I'm really getting Into handheld consoles now. I plan to get an ROG Ally soon too
Matt makes some good points, but the problem is that he already has his opinion and is just working his way backwards to justify it. Granted, he makes a few good points. However, saying that “Nintendo is bad for the industry” is just wild.
I’d argue the PS Vita blurred the lines between console and handheld. Just had terrible advertising and stupid proprietary expensive storage options and developers didn’t give it the support it needed
I definitely don’t agree with the idea that Nintendo should go the way of sega I feel there’s more than enough reason for them to exist in the console space affordability is of course one of them is affordability Nintendo has always and will always be about affordable consoles the newer portable consoles hitting the market are in the 700s steam deck is a bit closer in price but still goes 100 dollars over a switch and most likely the switch 2 will be comparable to a deck at a cheaper price again I can understand what Matt’s coming from but losing that affordability in the console space would hurt gaming as a whole my first system was a wii and my first portable was a ds both due to affordability and now 17 years later I adore video games but that wouldn’t have been possible without the more affordable Nintendo consoles sorry for The long ramble
All im interested in is a cheaper version screen less stand alone nintendo switch box. That you can only play from your tv! Them releasing Mario games on iPhone - Android is good step on the right direction. They would sell even more first party games Xbox / Playstations. I doubt they are making much money at all of their switches. If Nintendo just focused in just software on all the consoles and Phones im sure they would make way more money!!
Doesn’t matter PlayStation xbox pc> nintendo unless u only enjoy nintendo games only its like matt said u only get the switch to play your favorite Nintendo games which is true, i have a switch and its only used when i feel like playing mario or sonic games and for parties any other gaming needs I use a PlayStation or pc ( mainly for fps games)
It is most definitely still free real estate lol. The second pre orders for this thing come out it’s outselling the rog ally and steam deck combined. The pc handhelds and handheld consoles do not occupy the same market. And even if they were the switch is still the best selling system out right now alongside the ps5 in a lot of markets.
I agree with Matt, they get a pass for everything, and it's because of people like Austin's mindset of "we'll buy it anyway" that they will continue to be anti consumer with no consequences. He is outright saying as a consumer he does not care what they do to him as he will buy it anyway. So many people are like that and that's why we are in the position we are in now.
Legit. Like Nintendo has flopped multiple generations because of these anti consumer practices. Like the cartridge did for the N64. Small CDs for the GameCube. And whatever the f is the Wii U. Time and time again they needed a really hard lesson to finally come around
I like my switch, but I’ll probably never buy another one. There’s just not enough titles I actually want to play that I couldn’t also get on steam and play on numerous devices instead of being locked to the switch.
we have been saying Nintendo games don't need better hardware probably since the NES games, and yet Mario keeps getting better graphics every gen, not current ones but better... so that's not a great argument...

The target audience for Nintendo are kids and parents aren't going to be buying them the latest iPhones.
I use my switch just as much docked as I do handheld. Funny thing is, games that are not great with Joycon, I much prefer on dock (like smash). And local multiplayer is always preferred docked.
talking about anything without factoring in price is basically wrong out of the gate. Iphone? $1000+ … Steam Deck $600 … ROG Ally… idk $800? … Switch $350. And parents wont give an Iphone game or just Steam Points or codes to a kid as a present.
People saying Nintendo doesn't care about performance but the third party games they want on the system does. We can have more third party but the system just can't.
My money says the Switch 2 is a bigger switch lite in style with a power bump no more joycons in the box they will still work but slowly they will die away and as it still docks so it's still a switch

The dock on the switch is my single most favorite thing about it. Being able to set up a handheld device at a tv and play it like a wii with my family and friends is something that shouldn't be overlooked.
The new pattent leaks came out and i instantly got sad when i saw it. If they remove the dock i might not even buy the new generation.
Nintendo is ass stop sucking them off
I think it was Austin that said that the Switch was the best third best console Nintendo has ever made. That is how we like it.
It is software that sells, but you have to make sure the hardware is well off enough to have that software to sell the games.
Matt couldn’t be more wrong about this.
different ways to interact? 99.9% of Switch games are played with analog stick and buttons. That was true for the Wii almost 20 yrs ago, maybe?

Nintendo will always sell hardware but if they ever go all digital then thats the start of the downfall
Matt understands so little about Nintendo it’s insane. This debate was painful to sit through
My main issue with Nintendo doesnt handle digital purchases well if they do new hardware i shouldn't have to buy the same game twice for the same platform example on pc i buy a game i still have it i dont need to repurchase it .
Literally! Plus, they work with nvidia. Imagine docking your switch and it adding RTX or DLSS.

@@steve_bissetHow does that mean they’re bad for the industry lmao

You buy their consoles and 2-3 years after launch most third parties won't publish on their console because of the hardware constraints, so you're left with Nintendo only games. Nintendo sells consoles because of their ips and games
Why would they just put them on pc
I gotta say, my eyes really glaze over every time matt talks about nintendo. It's not that nintendo is unimpeachable or anything it just doesn't sound like he's thinking very hard about what he's saying
Switch buyers are a completely different market from Steam deck buyers. Don’t get me wrong Nintendo should step up their hardware but it’s the user experience and software that is more important for them.
It's always weird when people who aren't more well versed on stuff speak about it. "They didn't put great stuff into the Nintendo Switch IN 2017"
In 2017, when Nintendo Switch launched, it was literally the most powerful dedicated video game handheld in the entire world.

Matt is mad that nintendo has exclusives that dont come on anything else... thats his whole argument
LoL... Matt says that Nintendo is a monopoly because you can't play their games on PC... And then pulls out an IPhone (that's literally becoming a monopoly, and by his standards allready is)
Also the performance, Iphones are above $1000 while switch just about $300
Low key agree with Matt but also if they sellin units then can’t really argue with that.
Matt thinks like a tech nerd, the problem with that mindset its not being like that but thinking everyone is, the majority of ppl don't want to tweak settings for like 1/2 hour to play their games, and most of them don't care about the hardware but the games, while i think Nintendo will make a strong console (to improve their own games and get even more games), the reality is, power without software its like a big ass mansion to just hold one person, completely useless, that's why Nintendo has been on the game for so long
Matt acts like Nintendo isn’t successful. He kept bringing up the Pokèmon game…but that’s was a developer problem.
I think its gamefreak that needs better handling of their stuff and take more time to make the game or something
The switch 2 will sell like hot cakes assuming its a direct upgrade without any weird nintendo gimmicks,
The switch only sold so many units because the main player base are 10 year olds who keep breaking them and their parents buy them a new one.
damn those must be some rich kids if they can buy 130 million switches. Are you also gonna say all those games selling 20-30m+ are just 10 year olds breaking their games and buying them again? Use your brain before you comment next time please. @@spazznameleftblank4092

You can literally see who plays Nintendo games by looking at the biggest UA-cam Nintendo channels.
They are all 30+ year olds and some late 20s.
Sony and Xbox core fanbase are late 20s at the very most and mostly early 20s to late teens.
Contrary to popular opinion it is mostly edgy teens and pre teens who are lying about their age online to play Sony and Microsoft games with adults while there are millions of Nintendo fans who grew up with the NES in the 80s and still buy the consoles and games today.
Sony doesn’t really have a legacy, they don’t make original titles and Microsoft is even worse in that area, they will never have a stable fanbase and as soon as the power gap closes enough to the point that Nintendo consoles can play most 3rd party games then Sony and Microsoft are finished in the gaming market.
Switch is weak, but let's not forget that it's the strongest handheld games console ever.
(Steam Deck/ROG Ally are portable PCs, not dedicated systems with their own games.)
I know 720P 30 fps is mediocre, but we loved the PS Vita with it's 540P 20 - 30fps, and understood that battery power and legal thermal thresholds are a handhelds limitation that can't be ignored.
Say what you will about it, but we didn't expect PS4 level performance from the Vita, we can't expect PS5/XSX level performance from the Switch successor, in tandem with big enough battery life to not be tethered to a wall 24/7.
I absolutely love this pseudo debate style you guys have going! Please keep making them. As if my comment would make a difference and hundreds of thousands of views aren't already convincing you.
You guys are really going all in with the “The problem with X” format, aren’t you?
whatever the switch 2 is going to be, i hope they don't ditch the design of the switch oled. nothing beats the convenience of playing a handheld console, and then just docking it and handing half the controller to my friend to play smash or something. it's truly innovative and I'll be very upset if they abandon this
To the people who say nintendo games aren't super demanding, keep in mind, Xenoblade(literally has all of the xenoblade titles sans X), Pokemon and Zelda had performance issues on the switch.
The average switch player is a 23 year old woman playing dress up games and talking to village animals or a family of four Mario party/kart. 😂
@@mastergirl922 it doesnt have anything to do with games not being super demanding. Some of the most popular switch games (zelda, pokemon) have performance problems
The eShop legit feels like 2007 no matter how fast your internet is.
The switch came out 2017 but the chip that they used came out 2015
Nintendo SHOULD NOT do what Sega did ..that's a huge mistake i Love handheld gaming and people will argue but Nintendo does handheld gaming the best i dont want handheld gaming left up to xbox and sony ( yes i know about the steamdeck and other stuff) but Nintendo is the best
Yall hating on Matt. But he's 100% right. Haha
4:18 They're only a software company? I understand saying that for the sake of the power of their consoles and not have current or cutting-edge tech in their consoles. but then why do you have so many people way more so than any other gaming brand buy EXTRA consoles just for the sake of their aesthetics? I'm not saying what they're putting out justifies the consumerism, but the numbers are the numbers and it's the second bestselling console of all time currently, so hard disagree.
Some people just love the consoles. Price point. Simple no pc problems. Some people just want to play games without all the tech jargon. Microwave
2:30 still play my switch mostly in docked mode. With Switch fit and having 2 controllers that just unplug. Now you play 2player almost anywhere. Or have that extra player jump in with a joycon. That changed my couch gaming. now a friend's plus one can play some smash or cart just by taking a joycon. Switch changed the game.
Which funny enough, net-worth of Xbox is 2.3 Trillion, Sony is 146 Billion, and Nintendo at a "measly" 48 billion. Valve should buy Nintendo. LOL
Because their games are just better, Matt.
Statistically speaking, at least
@@fidelisitor8953 I don’t need that for a portable console
@@mastergirl922 It would be nice to at least have that sort of performance when docked in.
Matt is mostly right. However Nintendo should be given a chance to make a second attempt to make a handheld in the market they created.
I disagree, the ps1 to me was the og mobile system since you could get a monitor and car adapter for it
Watched this channel for years, but subscribed after hearing one leg tied behind my back.
I plan to get an ROG Ally soon too
Exactly. Mario Kart sold like 50 million copies or something like that.
Matt makes some good points, but the problem is that he already has his opinion and is just working his way backwards to justify it.
Granted, he makes a few good points. However, saying that “Nintendo is bad for the industry” is just wild.
I’d argue the PS Vita blurred the lines between console and handheld. Just had terrible advertising and stupid proprietary expensive storage options and developers didn’t give it the support it needed
why is price not mentioned? I love my steam deck but its $200 more than a switch...
#1 requirement for the switch 2 is it has to play switch 1 games. Period.

I seriously want the switch to support higher resolutions ONLY, I don’t want to stretch the video in a weird way in my ultrawide monitor
Sounds like we just need a doc that can upscale specs for the switch instead of a whole new console
haha sega dreamcast lol that console never ever landed here in the Philippines. The Switch 2 might arrive next year.
