I grew up listening to The Neighbourhood . I was in high school when i discovered A Little Death, then i became a fan after listening to their whole albums through years. Now i'm graduated from university and realized that The NBHD also grew up with me. Their music and lyrics evolved so much and every one of them have their unique beauty but deep down they have the same flavor of pureness that born from the naive side of melancholy. That's why their songs never get old and whenever you listen to them, it still feels like the first time. Thank you The NBHD, i love you so fuckin much.

I’ve been a loyal fan since sweater weather and have listen to all of their songs! Every little interview. I love everything about them. From the band’s aesthetics, sound, each member’s personality. Their sound is unique and every song always makes you feel deep into thought and makes you feel good about your soul. This song has been my new obsession for a couple weeks now. Listening to this song full blast on a late summer night with the windows rolled down and staring up into the stars is truly magical. There is just something so mesmerizing with the lyrics and the beat.
So what I've come in conclusion to is, Jesse stopped making music for a while because he believes his career flopped, which he mentioned before on his tiktok, his music doesn't get the recognition it deserves after his previous album rocketed hence the house flying to space , so now he feels like a ghost that nobody sees. The neighborhood putting out art just like always
This song has been my new obsession for a couple weeks now. Listening to this song full blast on a late summer night with the windows rolled down and staring up into the stars is truly magical. There is just something so mesmerizing with the lyrics and the beat.
I feel like you would play this while your soulmate is driving, with the windows down and sun setting.
So what I've come in conclusion to is, Jesse stopped making music for a while because he believes his career flopped, which he mentioned before on his tiktok, his music doesn't get the recognition it deserves after his previous album rocketed hence the house flying to space , so now he feels like a ghost that nobody sees. But he still made this song because he finds therapy talking to his beautiful girlfriend or someone inspired him to keep trying=Cherry flavoured conversations.
That's all. Idk how I came to that conclusion but it makes sense to me.

My theory about the song's meaning:
Jesse conveys his dismay towards the music industry (how much he's felt battered throughout his lifetime as an artist) while expressing the love for his fans.
"Sweet and sour motivation / Wish I could keep concentration" : It's hard for Jesse to make music especially when critics rate The Neighbourhood's music poorly. He goes back and forth about whether he should give it his all creating music especially if the hardest he's worked has been shunned.
"I've been getting high / It's keeping me low now " : Potentially a reference towards the NBHD's breakout hit Sweater Weather; Jesse may have gotten into a state of expecting more from his success.
"I'm doing it alone now / I think I gotta slow down" : This may be referring to his solo career as an artist. Maybe venturing off on his own, creating music, won't be worth it until he finds his true sound/identity within the Neighbourhood. Hence, he must slow down and focus on the band first.
"And I know I / I gotta take control now / But I sold my soul a long time ago / I feel like a ghost now" : He has to take his creative freedom back despite feeling invisible in the music industry.
"Cherry flavoured conversations with you / Got me hanging on" : This is my favorite part. He's referring to us, the fans. We're the reason he may feel compelled to make more music because we all love the band's music/aesthetic/identity so much.
"Down to Earth from all the waiting / Take me somewhere beyond" : Jesse's telling us how much he wants to achieve true success over his artistic freedom.
"I've been getting high / But I don't ever stay up, nah, nah" : He doesn't feel content with the numbers or streams his songs reach. He just wants to be recognized for the music The NBHD wants to make.

This part is easily the most obscure part to me. It can be interpreted in a few different ways. I think A) He could be suicidal (I hope this isn’t true), which is why he talks about pills alluding to OD'ing and feeling cold or B) He wants to kill the old Jesse, the one who may be scared to express his artistic sense in the fear of being unaccepted.
