Only special teams player in NFL history to win Super Bowl MVP!
He should have hit the Heisman pose
Dude.
He wouldn't have .... and he has said why he wouldn't.
I was 9 years old when this play happened, I knew I liked the packers and that I wanted to play football, but this return sparked the excitement of football in young little me, from that return on I knew I wanted to be a receiver and a kick returner, and well that's exactly what I did! Not to mention I've been a die hard packers fan since that moment.
But did ya dust off the robot?
AJ_Kevlar and now you're a devoted UA-cam commenter
Damn Vinateri has been playing so damn long
4real
i feel like a good kicker who really takes care of himself could play into his 50's.
Michael Kubota he is now about 10 fgs away from breaking the record
Andrew iz boss he’s 44 years old
Andrew iz boss this has happened to him two times with Howard and Hester
I love this guy, he's one of the greatest punt returners ever.
He had the best season of any punt returner ever that year; still is. You can Google it; there is a website explaining why. The best statistical analysis on any subject that I've ever read. It's called "1996, the year Desmond Howard broke punt returns".
Between him and rocket absolutely
Beautiful run Mr. Howard. However, nothing can ever touch a certain punt return and that glorious Heisman pose from a few years back. Go Blue !!!!
Go blue
Go Blue
Go Blue
Go blue
I will never forget that game, being an Ann Arbor native the 90s were so good, damn I miss John Cooper!! I was 6 years old during The Pose game, my dad and I were alone that weekend as my mom and sister were on a girl scouts trip. That day at the stadium I ate two hot dogs I stead of the normal one, and ended up being nauseous after the game. Good memories nonetheless!
Also, I met Desmond when I was 6 or 7 at a U of M run day camp on North Campus called Camp Adventure. That was the only time in my life I was at a loss for words as Desmond wasa god to my 7 year old self. He was super nice though, gave me an autograph and took a photo with me. I still have it on the wall next to a frames picture of The Catch Desmond made again ND.
Patriots fan of 41 years. HATED Desmond for years after. But that robot dance was 🔥🔥💪💪😂🤣
@Frederick Dorsey I’m not over the Steelers losing to Aaron Rodgers, still hate the packers to this day.
The one you you hate the most is Peyton’s younger brother
Good for Don Beebe, I'm glad he finally got his ring after 4 failed attempts with the Bills, I'm glad for him
So every game was on his shoulders? Can't win them all, Bret favre has how many rings and considered one of the best.. don beebe just had to get with a good organization. Same as if a browns player today joined the patriots
Listen man, I'm just glad he got his ring, and I would've been even happier if Bruce Smith, Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas, and Andre Reed got their rings. I ain't trying to cause any controversy man, chill, I'm just happy he got his ring
that did happen last month....Josh Gordon is now with the pats....not rooting for him at all as I hate NE, but you get the point...does happen sometimes...underrated players going to a contender
@ch33zy bread
I like how "making a move on Viniteri" consists of running in a straight line.
Viniteri was held on the play.
"Look at that, o my goodness! One man.... good bye! Hello Heisman!" Keith Jackson was *THE* voice of college football. One thing about his call on Desmond's other famous kick return is you can tell he is surprised by it and is caught off guard at first. He then goes on to make one of the sports most famous calls that perfectly and by accident made Desmond's Heisman pose even more legendary. Still to this day my favorite moment in college football history.
Desmond, you still da MAN....
"From the goal line to the 5, to the 10, to the 15...through a hole to the 20, to the 30...to the side, he's to the 40, HE MAY BE GONE! .....TOUCHDOWN FOR DESMOND HOWARD!"
This call lives rent-free in my head. I was 10 years old when I watched this game. One of my favorite memories of my entire life. And I'll be thinking about this play on my death bed, if I'm fortunate enough to have one. GO PACK GO
If you went to the fridge or bathroom....you missed it!! It was that fast!
Sounds like you know from personal experience
Howard just does not age!!!!!!
Anybody realize some of the greatest returners in NFL history have the initials DH? Lol.
Devin Hester, Desmond Howard, Dante Hall
Damn Don Beebe was a bit of an unspoken hero here
People underestimated how fast he really was. He got through that crease rather quickly.
Amen to that bro
all season long Beebe was a huge contributor. The Packers lost Robert Brooks to an ACL in the middle of the season. Then Freeman was out for a month with a broken arm. Chmura had a bad foot. We were hurting for pass catchers so Beebe became very important for a good portion of the season.
I think our starting WRs at one point were Beebe and Terry Mickens.
@@BazookaIke don't forget the mid season additions of Andre Rison and Keith Jackson. That held us over until we got Freeman back.
@@MusicManSeanB Keith Jackson was already on the team from the year before.
This was the first super bowl I ever watched. I was 7 years old and both my mom and dad were born and raised in Massachusetts. So obviously we were all rooting for the patriots. Little did we know after this heartbreaking kick return that just 5 years later a dynasty would start.
With a Michigan man at the helm😊
More players should do the robot after they score
Desmond you are the epitome of a NFL/Superbowl legend. Going back and watching this play immediately setting up Farve going for two and making it, then White having two consecutive sacks. That’s string of a few dominant plays was amazing.
I was watching this with my Mom, and Aunt Tangie when I was 7 in Birmingham, Alabama Southside Clairmont Apartment.
1:43 Vinatieri got CLEARLY HELD! Just a TERRIBLE no-call that completely changed the momentum of the game
Took the soul out of the Patriots the same way he took the Buckeyes'
I wish he was still playing today. The man was great.
Ima dust off the robot lmao
Love this guy
Well-spoken young-lookin' man
It came right after New England had a long, grinding 8+ minute drive. Something like 15 plays. Pack D was looking gassed. Was looking forward to a long offensive possession. A 3-and-out would have been bad.
But a 13 second return turned out to be the dagger that killed the Pats.
Desmond Howard still only kick returner to be SB MVP.
Funny that the Packers didn't give their defense much of a break, but New England was toast anyhow.
I love Desmond Howard
How do you not love Desmond Howard?
I like his approach to taking a kr off a deep kick.
That whole unit just became scary late that season. Pair a nifty returner with some excellent blockers, money.
He was clutch for tge Pack!🏈
Der Hedrites its called being good
That was cool to watch
he was the only player who didn't run in a straight line, so guys always missed him.
my uncle said this was hard for him to watch but it also made him happy because hes a UofM fan and a pats fan
I remember watching this live and thinking that he broke them for good and New England was dead even though I think it was in the 3rd quarter. No one was beating Green Bay that year
That robot was brutal
the kicker, Adam Vinatieri, is still playing. incredible
Hank3666able about 14 fgs left for him to break the fg record, so far in this season, 21 field goals, from 22 attempts
GOOOOOOOOO BBLLUUUEEEEE
Gooooooo Bluuuueeee!
the GOAT
Never seen a game change momentum like that before I think the patriots never got past mid field again with a few minutes left in the third quarter they looked done
Those old Patriot uniforms were so much more dorky than the ones they wear now.
lol lots of the uniforms were garbage at this time... Damn, remember the bucs old logo? Or how bout the broncos??
I wish their was more throwback uniforms from the 90s and early 2000s actually. They are pretty underrated and serve as a transition between "old" and modern uniforms.
i like how 90's-ish they look. like with the super bright red numbers and the blue and red stripe on the leg
Marylandbrony i remember the 3d numbers well from that era.
Des is probably my favorite player ever (Michigan fan), but that is the most awkward touchdown dance ever
He did the robot, aka white guy dance 😂
Definitely the best kickoff punt returner in my eyes where's the playoff return against San Francisco
Heisman pose next da Robot
I was a 1 year old during this SB
Howard had hella good orthodontics. His teeth were jakked up at Michigan
Go blue
#BackBreaker!!
I actually watched that Game
That patriots team had curtis martin as a luxury. I guess thats why he became a Jet. But they has reason to be cocky with their weapons including Martin catching passes.
Special
Hellooooo Heisman...
Wait, wrong one
Best UofM player of all time!
What’s with Wolverines & Super Bowls?
Still can't believe howard got mvp in that game
Something about them DHs.. Desmond Howard, Devin Hester. Hmmmm
Dante Hall 😂
I wish the Lions would have signed him or found a way to get him. So many missed opportunities by the Lions. :(
Look, it's Keisean Nixon's dad.
Dusted off the robot
I think the football went flat when he spiked it.
Why they got this dude narrating his own kick return smh
MICHIGAN🏈RULES!!!
Bob Harlan
Ron Wolf
Mike Holmgren
Brett Favre
Reggie White
Antonio Freeman
Desmond Howard
Edgar Bennett
Reggie White
Gilbert Brown
Ladies and Gentlemen, America's Football Team.
KEISEAN NIXION WILL REPLICATE THIS
Because the Heisman pose is the only thing that he ever did very unimpressive
🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌💖
should've been called back
False lmao mad ohio state fan
For what? Hell, he got grabbed by the face mask and he still made it in.
@@pauljohnson3340 It looked like Vinatieri was grabbed briefly from behind.
@@JungleEddie it was a judgment call from the refs. It was almost 25 years ago. Nothing we can do about it now.
@@JungleEddie I saw it as a small push in the back; it would have been sin if it was called.
When your in the super bowl and get to the point where it’s only the kicker to beat, no way in hell that kicker stands a chance.. you’ve come to far, lol it’s a wrap, Vinateri didn’t stand a chance..
Vinateri was held on the play.
brett Favre deserved mvp
They could've done a Super Bowl XII and do Co-MVPs
Imagine if they didn't have Desmond that game. Desmond deserved it. Kick off return in superbowl forca touchdown when your behind, not to mention it was a record run.
