Claude Dietrich Overall, nobody measures up to Ella. However, Julie London certainly had something. Her deep contralto tones could sound incredibly sultry and seductive. For alll that, I'd still prefer Ella's Cry Me a River and Love For Sale, although Julie's Cry Me a River was perfect for that famous scene in the film Cry Me a River.
I went to see the film The Girl Can't Help It. I was about 13, an unsophisticated young teenager going to the pictures because there was Rock'n'Roll in it with Little Richard and Gene Vincent and the Blue Caps performing in it. Great stuff to me. Then came that scene in which Julie London sang that mesmerising version of Cry Me a River. I still remember how stunned I was. I'd never seen anybody like her before, so sexy and sultry, and so classy at the same time and getting the hormones kicking in like mad. However, I still managed to get the music, and realise just how great everything in the scene fitted together. The song and the mood it established with that sensual voice, and how the visuals on top of that just about flipped me. The glorious innocence and discoveries of youth! I still cherish that memory, and am so glad to have found it on YT. However, I'm not terribly loyal. I have to admit that Ella's version is more brilliant, and I would choose that if I were listening without being able to watch that scene from the film. However, Julie's version is so perfect for that scene.
The original "J-Lo"....and miles better by a country mile....the velvety and sultry voice of Miss Julie London...not only a great singer...but a very glamorous and talented actress.......one of those singers who had that 'special' thing....

I have seen dozens of albums and simple song lists in here ...In most of them the user has not even cared to list the song titles, in some the user at least cared to list the songs and in some the user cared to also add a timeline. But I have never seen links to tracks like these ones, for jumping to a selected track! Genious!
