Great sermon Pastor, I think you should remember that our Lord said the ONLY grounds for divorce, is sexual immorality. So divorce on the grounds of domestic violence is NOT acceptable in the eyes of the Almighty (not that I condone domestic violence).

Roosevelt Goodman You probably didn’t read what I said, so let me repeat myself in a way that you can understand: God doesn’t want a person to stay silent and suffer when faced with Domestic violence. At the same time, you DO NOT deal with domestic violence with divorce. Here is what you do when you dealing with domestic violence:
      1. Seek counseling
      2. Seek God’s face in prayer.
      3. Stage every form of intervention under the sun
      4. Administer church discipline
And if worse comes to worse:
      5. Separate from and/or estrange said spouse.
At no point do you resort to divorce when dealing with abuse.

@@Christ2010Grad I understood clearly. I agree with all your points except for point 5b. If nothing else works and divorce is the only way to save your LIFE get the divorce. Jesus died for every sin including divorce. Every situation is different. Some can be reconciled and the abuse stops. Some times it escalates and gets worse. The Lord doesn't expect you to wait around to be murdered!

Roosevelt Goodman I’m not going to continue arguing with you. I’m going to leave these passages here and you can tell me where you are getting confused: “It has been said, ‘Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.’ But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, makes her the victim of adultery, and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
      Matthew 5:31-32
I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.” Matthew 19:9

@@Christ2010Grad I agree. We are just not going to agree. Any bible passage without a context is a pretext. Matthew 27:5 Judas went and hung himself. Luke 10:37 now you go and do likewise (someone could use these as proof text to support suicide). We can find almost any scripture to support our argument. You have to look at context, culture, audience as well as a host of other things, then apply correct exegesis to the text. God bless you brother. I have enjoyed our debate. The most important thing is that the person is saved. Everything else is secondary.
