Starting a Slow Stitch Landscape

- As I begin July in the Stitch Journal I'm starting a Slow Stitch Landscape background. Eventually it will have foreground flowers embroidered over the top.
For this week though it's all about choosing fabric and getting them stitched down onto the foundation page of the Journal.

The lighting was fine and one of the great things about your videos is that they are not overly polished and put together. This gives them a warmth and friendliness that many other tutorials lack. Your like the neighbour we all wish we had 😂❤

Marion, I am a prolific reader & after my great sadness I couldn’t retain even a short paragraph. My memory was so foggy. Riding the waves of grief is just so all consuming. I wish that I had had some one to tell me to be kinder to myself & so I apologise but if this seems to forward, but please be kind & treat yourself as if you are a close friend watching & supporting another friend who is going through what you are. Eventually we get better at riding those waves, recognising when they are approaching & receding. There’s no judgement, no rush & no time limit. I’m praying for you dear lady.
The landscape looks wonderful & I’m really looking forward to our next instalment. Thank you.

I was just having one of those days when little things were out of proportion a bit 😏
It was very easy to see even before you adjusted the lighting. You are very conscientious and I hope you don’t anguish over things that you might think are mistakes. I’m sure I’m not the only one who finds it very easy to enjoy everything that you teach us. You are simply a jewel 💎. Thank you.

I've grabbed some scraps of blue and green and auditioned them. I'm super excited about following along with you on this page. I've learned that each additional element you teach is like a happy surprise, not sure how it's going to come together, but now I know better... whatever you add each week is so lovely and makes the page come to life.

No wonder you are so good at needle work...your Mom was tailor! It is in your genes. My Mom was a sewer, but not professionally. My two sisters and I used to make our own clothes but I am the only one who continues to sew. I love it. Your landscape is wonderful!😊

The sky is so intense and reminds me of those cloudy summer skies where rain and sunshine keep coming, maybe a weather ahead..Beautiful and so lively!
I love to watch, how you work with those pieces, add frail, work with the curve, let your stitches flow. The joy of letting art and creativity flow...
Don't worry, it was not too dark and it is totally okay to feel whatever you feel. You still have a wonderful, unique and special content and I am very sure, I would even enjoy your videos with the lense closed, alone listening to you and having the honour of being allowed to.get those lovely glimpses into your world.

This piece looks beautiful in both settings Marion! I have an old “letterbox’ (thats what we call it in Dutch) where printers would keep the metal letters for their prints. Seeing your thread organization I am considdering putting all my threads into that big letterbox, it looks so beautiful. 🍀💖
That will work beautifully I think. I know just what you mean. We call them printers' trays here.
My boxes are old cutlery trays. I took all the insides out and lined them with fabric. I like to have all my colours to choose from regardless of what they are...

Hello Marion. That was a delightful video - very “moody” colours, which I liked a lot. Don’t worry about the settings - anyone watching your videos will be completely immersed in what you are doing - which is always a delight to see. And if you need time out, take it! I suspect you have a very loyal group of followers who will always be happy to wait until you are ready to put out another video.
I did smile at the point you were saying “go with the flow”, which is what I was doing ; that is, a bit of knitting while I watched. Only to find I had made a small error in the pattern and had to unpick the whole row. I found that thoroughly amusing - and the knitting is fine.

Hello Marion, I know that tailors also called it "pin stitch ", because it took the place of pins and made a stitch the size of a pin prick. I love learning all the different names for things, it enriches your knowledge.❤

I can remember carefully cutting those cards out of the front of Mum’s packets of tea as soon as she bought them. She probably has those albums tucked away somewhere 🙂

Oh my! I had many of those tea card books, including the one you showed. My parents had a village shop so I was well placed to collect them! I can remember the wild flower one well. Sadly I got rid of them all years ago. Wish I hadn’t now. It would have been the early ‘60s. Xxx

I love your videos, Marion🫶🏻. I have started to make slow stiched projects for the first time a few months ago, and yours are just beautiful and so inspiring. I love the fact that you can do exactly what you want to do in slow stiching (as I understand it😅) and it is as if your mind and hands just do what they like, which is so enjoyable and relaxing. I’m in my Swedish summer cottage doing a lot of renovating (mostly painting), and your videos are so lovely to watch, when I have time to relax (with my knitting☺️). I loved your thrifting video, and had on the same day I watched it been on a thrifting hall here in Sweden, so it was really fun to see what you got🤗Thank you so much for your videos🍀🌸🌷😍

Tomorrow my youngest daughter and her her husband and 2 little boys (7 md. and almost 3 years old) are coming, so thats not so quiet - but lovely as well. Another lovely video, our textile group have been making a set of landscape panels for Essex Wildlife Trust showing each habitat and some of the species that live there, so its always good to get new ideas and techniques, thank you 😊

Thank you Marion this is so timely as I have just started to lay out a landscape from a kit. I thought I would use it as a trial run and it is really handy as I do not have a fabric stash. There is no need to apologise the lighting was fine, yes when you changed the setting it was brighter but we could still see what was what beforehand. I would also say please don't burn out with making videos as an audience we will always want more but you must look after yourself and stitch for you. Don't make it become a chore for yourself.

Brava, Marion. Your choices for this landscape are super - I haven't anything appropriate so thought I might take a piece of heavy linen and loosely paint a back, middle and foreground, then use stitching, applique and embroidery to embellish it. First, I will search the local thrift for some cloths.
A painted sky would definitely be a good addition...👍☺️

This is gorgeous Marion 😍, your landscape reminds me of something my mom and I did decades ago ( pre internet 😆) it was called the page 18 ( or another number, I just can't remember) challenge. You had to pick a random magazine and use whatever was on that page as inspiration for a piece of work. I made a similar moody sky landscape with hand painted grey silk scraps and hills in the foreground. I never finished it and it has become lost over the years of moving around 😕....anyway, thanks for the lovely tutorial and the memory!

This was a lovely video again Marion! This kind of embroidery is what I longing for to do. Now I have to look for suitable fabrics. I would love to use same colors as you are using 😏 it can be hard to find but I will do my best. Can go to more thrift stores. There are no fabric stores anymore. It's boring/sad. Online shopping has taken over everything. But used is cheaper! Thats a good thing and better for the environment, I think.
