So, no matter how much Tai Lung trained, he would never become the Dragon Warrior, since only a panda could defeat Master Shen and Master Kai.
I knew he wasn't a real villain when he didn't take out the Furious 5 just paralyzed them. Honestly, if you look at it, Shifu truly failed him because promising a goal, he had no authority over. And you know what turly crushed him that he didn't even fight on his behalf.
He didn’t kill the Furious Five because they were skilled and respectable Warriors, like himself. He would have only killed them if there was literally no other choice. Tai Lung wasn’t insane or sadistic, just broken from being failed and abandoned and not stood up for. Sure, he did some evil things in his original rage and fury, but he was never evil or malicious.
