For those wondering "why is this not in full 1080p despite YT saying it is?" The reason for this is because this OVA never got an HD remaster. On the perfect soldier boxset they seemed to try upscaling a vhs master that they had on hand. I suspect this was because studio Sunrise lost the master film reels for this but i still cannot confirm.
They probably still have it in storage somewhere, it was suspected that mellowlinks was lost forever for over a decade before the HD remaster was made recently.
I wasn't a huge fan of the story in this OVA, but it's beautiful to see Votoms in this more modern (relatively, I suppose) artstyle. It's rather bittersweet for me. Also I love the erdspinne's design. Thanks for the upload.
I just realized every time you see Chirico weld in this series, he's using old-style goggles, not a full mask. That's a fast way to get an Welder's Tan, and skin damage/cancer. I suppose an Overman can overlook such trivial concerns. I am ctually surprised that detail was overlooked given the technical "hardness" of the series, though.
frankly even after he mellowed out as a person with human connections, by this point he feels very reckless just to get to his goal so him not giving a damn about welder's safety makes sense. also, you seriously think they'd make full mask welder helms in a world like votoms, as they care deeply about safety?
@@ITSPLANEWHACKHIM I don't disagree, it's just extremely technically outdated as a practice, even when the series was being made. Standard operation, be it military or commercial, is to have a full mask. It matches the aesthetic of course, but it stands out to the knowledgable viewer.
On the other hand, this was made after the original OVAs, where we learn that Chirico will not die and heals abnormally well. He could weld _without_ any kind of eye protection whatsoever and still have his eyesight back in a few days at most. Militaries, God, and The Church have all shot at him and missed; cancer's welcome to try but unlikely to succeed! (For that matter, for the breakout in episode 5 of the TV series, the Gotho gang uses the same kind of goggles but keeps their distance from the surface they're working on.)
The first time I saw VOTOMs it took me a little while to get into the Scopedog as a design, but now I love them. Pretty much the ultimate personal mech. Light, fast, and easily customisable to whatever your mission profile is
Looking through the Votoms spec notes unfortunately it doesn't list its caliber. I suspect its close to 30mm, it shares design influences of the real life RMK30 recoil-less autocannon. Here they call it a "Droppers Folding Gun"

Didn't realize Chirico was a newtype, lol. ( 5:33 ) VOTOMS has never looked better though, and I love the Burglarydog setup for the Scopedog.

I just noticed on the HG box for the Burglarydog there's an Erdspinne in the background. Hopefully that means we'll be getting one of those soon.
