I mean ,why did i wanted Shashi and Laurent to end up together? but if they did it would’ve been a very big character development for Shashi, which is unrealistic for an indian woman. But I really wished, maybe in another universe they started that Indo-French restaurant and are living happily in NY.

The ladoos in the movie were Motichoor laddoos ... Moti means pearls , 'choor' means crushed . So essentially crushed pearls made from Chickpea flour or gram flour ,heavenly droplets which are deep fried and soaked in Saffron flavour sugar syrup and then shaped into laddoos. They are also called boondi laddoos .
Food description in details seems so wonderful until you try them🤣..I don't like motichoor laddoo.

I think that as much as this film is a blessing to India, the West actually benefits more from this film. Our judgmental attitudes toward other cultures are exposed a bit and the film does such a great job of exposing what family and true love are, that it does put a great deal of our hypocrisy in our Christian culture to shame. Love that it gave me and the west such a wonderful introduction to India's most versatile actress. Thanks for the reaction, guys.

Sabyasachi Mukherjee...one of India's most revered couturier did an excellent job designing the outfits of Sridevi. They are subtle yet so beautiful. Sridevi used to wear his intricately designed sarees for nearly every function as well.
sabyasachi is overrated love jihad promoting woke feminist. there are designers in indore and nagpur better than her.
Honestly I couldnt stand th husband but the ending made sence to me as it was realistic.

This is how I actually feel after moving to Germany. I don't know the language and the general embarrassment her character faces everyday is something I strongly resonate with.

The only wrong thing in the film is Hindi is NOT India's national lang.
We have no national lang.
English and Hindi are BOTH official lang. And if anything English is higher as it's taught to every Indian in school even in local lang medium schools.
MOST of India is NON-Hindi.
I was thinking the same. Every state has their own language but there’s very very few states who speaks Hindi. Ex, Maharashtra speaks Marathi, Gujarat speaks Gujarati. Only few places speak typical Hindi like Delhi.

In total, there are 6 shashtriya bhasha.
In High Court & above ONLY English works.

Hindi was for the minority Hindi belt. And English alternative was for MOST of India like Marathi, Gujarati & all of us, as you said.
Even in Hindi, there's SO MUCH conspiracy with the nunbers. Awadhi, Bhojpuri, Maithili are extremely rich languages that are merely put as "dialects". Look at their unique literature. It's unfair to put them all as Hindi. Speaker of one can't understand the other!!
Supreme Court of India had ruled other than your mother tongue, you must know EITHER English/Hindi & that's enough.

Besan Laddoos:
Ingredients:
2 cups gram flour (besan)
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 cup ghee (clarified butter)
1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
2 tablespoons chopped nuts (almonds, cashews, pistachios, etc.)
Raisins (optional)
Instructions:
Roast the Gram Flour (Besan):
Heat a heavy-bottomed pan on medium-low heat.
Add ghee to the pan and let it melt.
Add gram flour (besan) to the melted ghee and mix well.
Keep stirring continuously to ensure the besan cooks evenly and doesn't burn. Roast until the besan turns aromatic and changes color to a golden brown. This should take around 12-15 minutes.
Add Flavorings:
Once the besan is roasted, turn off the heat.
Add cardamom powder to the roasted besan and mix well. You can also add some chopped nuts and raisins at this stage for added flavor and texture.
Let it Cool:
Allow the mixture to cool down for a few minutes until it's warm enough to handle but not too hot.
Shape into Laddoos:
Once the mixture has cooled down slightly, add powdered sugar to it. Mix well until the sugar is evenly incorporated into the besan mixture.
Take small portions of the mixture and shape them into round balls (laddoos) with your hands. If the mixture is too dry to hold shape, you can add a little more melted ghee.
Serve or Store:
Once all the laddoos are shaped, let them cool completely before serving.
You can store the laddoos in an airtight container at room temperature for several days.
Enjoy your homemade Besan Laddoos!
Note: These are simple laddoos compared to what you saw in the movie!! Adjust the quantity of sugar according to your taste preferences. You can also customize the laddoos by adding other ingredients like grated coconut, dried fruits, or spices such as nutmeg or saffron.

I watched this film long time ago, and now I watched your reaction. Not sure but the in the end when she asks for Hindi newspaper, it represents her staying connected to her roots. Even I was rooting for the French guy, but her husband always loved her..yes..he took her for granted and disrespected her at times, but she never hated him and still chose him. If she would have gone on a “coffee date” with the French guy..this film would have lost its essence.
I'm glad that the movie had Sashi be loyal to her spouse and family.

Really good line by Sridevi, when she explains how not all answers to your relationship problem is a new relation but it sure made her gain her self respect back. Her speech will sure made an impact on her family. Though I agree, if they still don't respect, you either stand up for yourself or leave them. But in relationship that decision should come after you try once to get back your love and respect. That's why, never do marriage unless you have clear view about your future life with your partner.

I personally feel like shashi and Laurent should have ended up together, they had more chemistry and they understood each other even when they were speaking different languages and the language barriers while satheesh couldn't understand her even when they were speaking the same language.

I very well understand that a working man who is the only provider in the house needs a household professional for the things he cannot look after. And I understand the importance of both a working husband and a housewife. But.....come on guys just because your spouse is bound to you by marriage dont take their own indentity away (and it goes for both husband and wife)....stand up for them when they are being disrespected by your children, learn to show each other reliability, compassion and respect. Marriage doesnt equal to taking away someone's freedom. But not many people understand and abide by that.

A lot of people are saying it'd be better if Shashi ended up with Laurent, but I feel the ending is better for 3 reasons:
1. Her husband may not be great, but by Shashi's traditional viewpoint he's good enough, since he isn't physically abusive, and trusts her to travel on her own. Besides, she has two kids, and breaking up a marriage that can easily be saved is quite unwise,and unacceptable by Indian standards.
2. In real life we meet plenty of people who we love or who love us,or who guide us and they are in our life for a short time ,but they completely change our life. It's a case of true friendship. In my case it was a literature teachure who taught us for just 1 year.
3. In a way the movie solves her familial problems. Her husband and girl look down on her as she can't speak english( sadly considered the most important mark of education snd class in India), and because she doesn't really tell them how she feels. By voicing her thoughts in English, she nakes them realize that She is smart and capable of learning anything, and that they have treated her unfairly.
