Ive always wondered when exactly to harvest my sage after it flowers. you said 2 -3 weeks is probably go time >< you also said you can wait till the birds come to eat the seeds. probably a sign to hurry up & harvest before the seeds fall to the ground. thank you for your info
I don't have any videos on that plant; thank you for sharing about it. It's beautiful and great for anchoring hillsides. Flammable, but said to be fire resistant if you keep it irrigated. Hope your white sage does well by it👍🙂.
I've grown my first and only white sage here in Hamilton New Zealand and she's nearing two years old. I still have the gifted seeds I grew my only one from. As a renter I'm not keen to ground her but she's in a huge black pot. She's flowering and soon I suspect I'll have to harvest the seeds and do a nice cut. I am super nervous. And as for attempting to grow more I'm not sure how I did it in the end because used a few methods and I can't remember how this one survived when all the others did not germinate. I germinated over a hundred to get this one. How in my climate would you suggest I try germinating more seeds into plants?
White sage has a low germination rate, and the seeds may only last 1-3 years. You should have many seeds from your plant that you grew from seed. Congrats👍🌿🙂! After you harvest your seeds, dry them by hanging in a paper bag. I’d plant them when danger of frost has passed. I think the sooner you plant them, the better chance they will grow; for example, seeds that you plant in the spring after fall harvest will have better chance of sprouting than seeds that are a year old. I like to soak seeds in water overnight with a little aspirin zested into it. Rinse and plant the next day. I feel like this helps. Sounds like you’re doing a great job. I hope this helps🙂🌿.
Hi Teresa, sorry for delay. Sage seeds can last 1-3 years. With white sage (Salvia apiana) it’s usually it’s safe to assume that only about 20-30%of the seeds will germinate. White sage seed has low germination rate. If you can get a few to sprout and grow into plants, they will produce many seeds though. I’d try an aspirin water overnight soak if the seeds before planting. I’d just use a zester to zest a pinch of aspirin into the water that you soak the seeds in. Plant after danger of last frost. I’m not sure after two years how many seeds will sprout, but it’s worth a try👍🌿. I hope this helps🙂.
Thankyou very much. It's nearing summer, well it's basicly early summer here. I'll try using the older seeds next springs end and I have a fair idea thanks to your video how to harvest. The flowers are almost gone atm but we've had some heavy rain. I figure I'll harvest after a dry period and hang. Will have to be very soon. Thanks again 😊
Hi Yang, I'm sorry I don't sell seeds. This site sells them: strictlymedicinalseeds.com/product/sage-white-salvia-apiana-seeds-organic/ I hope this helps :-).
Unfortunately I don’t sell white sage seeds. This company does though: www.ufseeds.com/product/white-sage-seed---packet/SAWH-Packet.html I haven’t bought from them, but they seem pretty good 👍
Thanks for the guide! Great info as usual, and perfect timing :)

And the seeds I got were gifted about two years soon. How long do the seeds last?
